Rocky Marciano for me.
The 49-0 record has caused recent generations to elevate his status far above how the old timers rated him.

IBRO full of old timers still have him at 7th.
Yup, the way it was, is, but may not forever be.

Since then we have had many other heavyweight champions such as Ali and Frazier and Foreman and Holmes and Tyson and Lennox and the Klitschkos. So it stands to reason that Marciano’s ranking should rightfully drop, not be elevated because of the undefeated record.Last edited by ShoulderRoll; 04-07-2023, 09:34 PM.Ivich likes this.

Marciano never went into a big fight without half the people believing he might lose.
He never reached the superstar status, (i.e. thought unbeatable) like Sullivan, Dempsey, or Louis enjoyed at one time or another.
Marciano was always doubted until he quit undefeated. So I agree the undefeated record made the legend grow.

Your reality is yours and yours alone though you could form a glee club of Rocky haters for a consensus...

Today’s reality should be that he is out of the top 10. Instead of being overrated by the moderns to the point that he is consistently picked to beat Dempsey in mythical matchups.

Surely you would be gracious enough to provide us with the youtube video for our enlightenment......
