Why is Jack Johnson rated so high...

So what does it all mean? See how this works...one sources says one thing and another says something different, yet you hold onto your sources as if they are the final word and gospel on the subject. Don't recall Langford saying Dempsey was afraid of Wills. When he said Johnson was the best, that was in 1919, when he said Dempsey was the best that was in 1922. Mr. Always Right, is never wrong.Last edited by GhostofDempsey; 04-19-2022, 02:49 PM.Comment

Did I say my source makes it clear that he prefers one over the other? When did I say that? I simply stated that he also said Jack Johnson was the greatest he ever saw, and that Dempsey was afraid of Wills.
If you don't recall it, maybe you have a poor memory. I'm pretty sure I posted it here before. Don't know what any of that has to do with being always right or wrong.Comment

Have you researched this or are you just assuming? You say after his retirement, so clearly this was much later. What makes you think that this is only about the first time he was asked to fight Langford? He was asked to fight him several times.

You pulled out of your ass that I hold onto my own source like it is the final word. I thought I stated it plainly. I never said my source was the final word. I only mentioned that he also stated Jack Johnson was the greatest he ever saw.Comment

He was asked to fight him early in his career while still relatively green, and then later in his career when Sam was blind in one eye and past it. There was no glory in beating a faded one-eyed Langford.Comment

And as far as I know, he was asked to fight him once early on (when by the way others at similar stages in their career as Dempsey were fighting Sam) and then later down the line.Last edited by travestyny; 04-19-2022, 03:23 PM.Comment

But I know that quotation wasn't about him being asked to fight him once. It was regarding him being asked to fight Langford multiple times.
