He grew up in a time where housewives got beat by drunken husbands but smiled on TV. He grew up in a time where he read off a card what white people told him to do. The facts are he lived and died at a table in vegas, with ******* up his nose and gangsters around every corner. The media protected Louis’ image. Tysons was attacked.

my real point is, how do you know that Joe didn’t **** any under age girls in the 30s? Cause you know that never happened, especially during the great depression right? Loll. Probably assault on a minor. Not a good thing to get busted for.

Discharging the weapon next to Tyson's ear as Atlas claims he did starts to get real funky. Had Tyson suffered any damage to his hearing the whole damn thing could have become aggravated battery and then Atlas would be looking a ten years or more.

Of course circumstances count in common law and Tyson's actions would have mitigated Atlas' behavior somewhat - but discharging a weapon while threatening a minor, with the wrong judge, Teddy could have had a very serious problem.

Unless the girl actually claims to have been assaulted or ******ed by Tyson, Altas's behavior is going to be looked at as too extreme and thus criminal.

I don't know the extent of the sexual assault ,all the books I've read stated he tried to have sex with her.I've 4 daughters and 8 grandkids I think Tyson got off very lightly .Putting myself in Atlas position I couldn't guarantee the same outcome.

I didnt swear at the poster at any time,you swear directly at posters there is a difference.Then again you are able to do so with impunity because you are doing it from the anonymous safety of your PC aren't you?Face to face with them ,you might learn to be more circumspect with your insults.

This is a 14 year old thread. Who knows what has become of the author and contributors. All the best to them each and all, I say. I'm late to this party, but I will opt to toss in my two cents. First, I love the carefully crafted threadstarter post. The style and care that has gone into it certainly caught my attention. Cudos. Second, who said that Joe Louis had better opposition than MikeTyson did? I didn't. But here I am anyway, sticking my nose in where it doesn't belong. Louis, in my view, ranks great mostly because of the length of time he stayed put as earth's most famous and important athlete in spite of an entire planet evidently most eager to have a fight, combined with his blazing hot combinations and uncanny economy of movement that allowed him to sneak up on opponents in broad daylight and detonate on them better than any heavyweight before or since.
Third thing that strikes me is the IMPORTANT biographical style difference employed to discribe Tyson's contemporaries that the writer presumably remembers, using opponents data and event reccolection, in contrast to the Louis era treatments consisting of far reaching hyperbolics such as "that many losses proves that he's not a world beater, regardless of historians praising him for being something he's not". To even up the author's assesment of, say, Tubbs or Williams, he might also have said of Sharkey, "He notably burst the Harry Wills bubble in the fall of 1926 by battering the number one contender around the ring for 12 rounds". He might even have gone so far as re-typlified Galento as "A David Tua type who for better or worse let his hand go better". To be fair. More even handed, and less distracted by his zeal to close the sale. Lastly, Lee Ramage, Patsy Perroni, Roy Lazer, Paulino Uzcudun, Charley Retzlaff, Al Ettore, Bob Pastor, Nathan Mann, Harry Thomas, J.H. Lewis, Johnny Paychek, Skysc****r Abe Simon, Lou Nova, Tami Mauriello, Jersey Joe Walcott were all excellent fighers omitted. Of are we just talking title opponents? Who knos anymore? 2008, I was old then too. But hey, I'm just creating conversation here. Its a good post!!!!!
