Holmes turned into a great fighter but he was an Ali wanna be earlier in his career.

Ali’s speed of foot allowed him to land his punches at odd angles while at the same time being off center and out of range for opponents blows. Prime Ali does so with Holmes in earning a unanimous decision. 10-5 in rounds.

Regarding Ali Lyle many thought Ali carried him. I watched the bout live and it was a boring affair. Lyle doing his best to conserve himself while Ali covered up mostly mid ring (he introduced “the mirage” in this bout which was ropeadope done mid ring).

Ali was behind a bit but one blistering right hand in round 11 followed by 30 something unanswered punches caused the ref to stop it.

Larry Holmes wins it. He had the superior Jab and lateral movement. Obviously, Ali had the better legs and hand speed and can throw flurries better. Larry threw better hooks and uppercuts, Alis uppercut was kind of weak. Both had great heart, chins, and recovery ability.

Larry would win because of his jab and he actually went to the body

Ali’s jab was superior. Faster and more precise. Holmes was a plodder in many bouts. He did not have the lateral movement of Ali. Ali threw ever punch in the book. Holmes had no left hook.

            - -Yup, nor would he beat prime WBC Ali since his title record vs standing champs having won their titles in the Ring is 0-6, 0 KOs.

Could he even beat WBA Ernie Terrell?

Face it, boys, Ali, George, Joe, and Kenny and even Jimmy all Golden Age rivals in classic encounters.

Lar who was still skinny then weren't in the mix in spite of being tutored by Ali and Dundee. When George fought Young, Lar on the undercard fought a long forgotten Novice.

Oh the shame of the shameless!

Larry Holmes is a strange one, he went many years maybe being slightly underrated, but now is being massively overrated. He reigned in a very weak era. Honestly, I'd put him on the same level as the likes of Dillian Whyte.

You have a decent point but your pendulum swings so far! Holmes was underated, and then perhaps overated, but not massively, and he is in a higher class than Whyte... and I like Whyte.

In the idylic Longiland (correct NY pronounciation) I knew... where my female cousins lived, there were always enterprising youth to dig a car out at a bargain.

If it keeps becoming more difficult, I just might have to do so. In the meantime, I have a battery powered shovel. Works okay, not quite as well as a snow blower though. Didn't quite finish, since I had a migraine, but my roommate said a neighbor dug out what was left of the passenger side. If they have people to plow the parking lot here, I don't see why they can't finish the damn job and just dig out people's parking spots too, while they're at it.
