Ali is almost universally rated as the greatest of all heavyweight champions. No other fought his level of competition and consistently walked away the winner. His victory over a determined No 1 contender Frazier in Manila cemented his ATG status. Ali was a very rare combination of quick fancy Dan boxer with the toughness of a great slugger.

I've heard that kind of thing about most of the top fighters from the 20's, 30s, 40s....from sources whom I actually respect.
