  • How strong was Jim Jeffries?

as far as in-ring, functional strength goes, i've heard alot of stories about this guy being a phenomenally strong mofo. how did his ability to man-handle opponents compare (at least p4p since HW's were obviously smaller back then) to guys like george foreman or lennox lewis?

His strength was overrated. He fought guys a lot smaller than him, and he was scared to fight blacks.

    That is all.

      Thats the jist of it.

P4P in 1920 Jim Jeffries is an Ox. P4P in 2007, Jim Jeffries is like the dad who dazzles his son because he can carry big boxes.

Have you guys been in the ring and tested his strength? Including the super tiny midget opponents he was fighting? No, so let's leave that judgement to the people who knew and fought him. He was strong, sadly he fought way back in the day, and you can't possibly find as much info and footage from him as a modern day fighter.

I agree, no one knows except his opponents. He was a physical specimen with endurance to match. He was also the heavy-weight boxing champion of the world, and deserves nothing but respect from this forum.

i'll bet he was very strong, back in his day people had to do a lot more hard labor than now, and he worked some of the hardest jobs of the time. he was a boilermaker, but without the power tools and machines that we have today. those kinds of jobs teach u how to put all your body weight into a punch
