Lol....one convert at a time. I'm sold as soon as I remembered Lionel Butler breached the top 10. Big uptick in the 90s in talent since the dreary days of Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Ellis, Quarry, Lyle, Shavers, Bugner, Bonavena......

Every era has its critics and proponents it seems. They all have at least a thin crust of timeless high quality at the top, but the depth does vary. Even though I personally hold in very high esteem those highly talented superlatives such as Foreman, Norton, Young, Holmes, Tate, Page, Dokes, Weaver, Coetzee, Berbick, Smith, Bruno, Tyson, Williams, Tucker, Douglas, Holyfield, Bowe, Moorer, Ibeabuchi, Byrd, Tua, Lewis, McCall, Mercer, Morrison, Golota....etc, found all the way through; between 1978 and today, I actually rank THE CURRENT era (Post Klitschko through the final shake-out of the one-time "Big three champions" of Wilder/Fury/Joshua and their contemporaries); as the best era since The golden age of the 70s!!! Many will reject that idea, and that is OK with me. As for those who think the art is still evolving after the era of Tunney, Loughran, Greb, Kid Chocolate and Benny Leonard? Some folks un unteachable.

      • - - George was retired in 77 when the ****** Ring 76 issue came out, ie inactive, the criteria.

By 94 Ring after decades of ******ity published their rating the year of the ratings where George KOed Moorer. He won all his next fights until Briggs years later, but Lar whooped by McCall in his first fight of 95 dropped from the ratings after a nanoblip appearance.

Good effort, but U stoopid still.

Awwwww they're allright. Two of them can often bring good value and the third one is amusing. Anyway you relish the conflict. You give up on Nothing.

Ring ratings are compiled for the year 1976 January thru December. George fought both in January and March of 1977, meaning yes he was active and rated at the same time as Holmes. Learn to follow a timeline.

Good effort, but U stoopid still.

It also stands to reason since he was in the year end issue that Holmes had been rated since April of 1976 after fighting and winning in March.

                  Both would destroy george fast

So true. Anybody old enough remembers. Still, it is a thing of amazement how George essentially leap frogged over the entire 1.0 - 1.5 decades of the Larry Holmes footprint with so little real overlap. That both guys were still among the best big men on earth deep into the 1990s and into their own middle age, every bit competitive with the contemporary best, right up the line. Their feat certainly lays to waste all of that no-nothing boxing evolution stuff we historians love to take a **** on.
