Every1 slags him off as gutless and so on but the 1st Bruno fight u mentioned was a perfect example of the fighting heart he once had! He got tagged by a big shot from a huge puncher, hurt bad, he comes whailing back! He loved to fight and had plenty of guts, i just think he lost his passion and fighting spirit sumwhere along the line.
    That's very well put.

Thats all true. But for Douglas it was a one off. He put in the best performance of his life, and never managed to reach that level again.

One perfect night doesnt mean that Douglas always had Tysons number as some people believe.

even if tyson had won on the count he still got his ass badly beat up.

he let himself down that night

Based on the simple fact that Tyson clearly not at his best, plus eventhough Buster fought the fight of a lifetime, he was still saved by a long count.

The uppercut that Tyson caught him with was not one of his hardest shots. With Buster being stopped 3 times before he met Tyson, i think a Tyson on his day stops Buster within 5.

Like i said in my previous post, Tyson made many mistakes that night. Mainly that he stood off Buster for so long, giving Buter the time and space to throw his big punches and jab.
Also Tyson hardly threw any combinations and didnt really go to the body and wasnt following his jab with anything.
Alot of credit must go to Douglas for seizing on Tysons mistakes.
Wrong....Tyson's beast still couldn;t handle Buster that night.....end of story...

              Exellent post!
U really have good counter arguments for each of my points.
Speaking to Buster Douglas has made u so subjective.

Tyson was in his physical prime against Buster, but mentally he wasnt there. You cant deny the fact that he didnt prepare for that fight. I give Buster all the credit in the world. His gameplan in that fight was remarkable, and he fought the fight of his life. The fact that they were using cold water in a rubber glove to try to reduce swelling basically symbolizes the preperation of the Tyson camp as a whole.

Tyson is overrated more often than underrated. There are posters on this site who consider him the best fighter of all time. That's like calling Eric Clapton the greatest guitarist of all time -- a secondhand opinion most often that's not at all based on any careful observation and study.

But Tyson for a moment was a deadly fighter, and we should all think well of him.
