That haunts me alot of times. I wish they would have had a rematch. If Tyson could have beaten him in a rematch it would have really helped his legacy.

how would buster have known that?

at the end of the day its only the refs count that counts

Tyson would have destroyed Douglas in a rematch. Douglas would have showed up fat and out of shape, and looking for a soft spot on the canvas to lie down on. Just like he did versus Holyfield.

I think they offered more for Holyfield than a Tyson rematch (i can't imagine how it would make more than a tyson rematch though), so Douglas's team took that one instead.

Douglas thought Holyfield would be easy I think...and wanted to get the millions for that and then take on Tyson in a rematch for even more money.

Problem was he couldn't foresee all the drama that comes with beating up the baddest man on the planet for the heavyweight championship. Not everybody can handle that kind of pressure; and seeing as how Douglas never really had a love for the game, persay, he couldn't maintain focus and didn't train the way he should have.

Holyfield was the mandatory challenger after the Douglas/Tyson fight (as he was before), and it wasn't but a week later (Feb 17th to be exact) when Douglas was instructed by both the WBA & IBF to defend his championship against Holyfield next, which Douglas agreed to only two days later.

It depends on how you evaluate tyson. Tyson was one of the most DANGEROUS fighters in heavyweight history but not one of the GREATEST by any means. The reason for that is simple: HE DIDN'T BEAT ANYONE!! Who did he beat Spinks? The only reason we are even talking about Spinks right now is because we are talking about Tyson, that is the only reason anyone ever talks about Spinks. Ali knocked out Foreman but Ali isn't the only reason we talk about Foreman. If a guy is truly a great champion in his own right he will be remembered, period. He won't just be remembered because some other guy knocked him out. And don't recite stats to me about what Spinks did in the deadest era of boxing to make him so great. The only reason you are even building him up is to try to build Tyson up. Was Tyson one of the most dangerous? no doubt, but GREATNESS requires accomplishment.

I think Tyson accomplished more than Rocky Marciano, who many people call "great".

how can a heavyweight boxer be overrated when he simply cleaned his division with brooms from hell in his prime?
