I completely agree with you regarding Dokes, he had good hand speed and was one of the few heavyweights that threw multi punch combos. Then the drugs did the rest. In a time when the heavyweight division is almost as weak as it is today he had the chance of becoming a dominant force.
I also have to say that Tyrell Biggs rates up here somewhere. He was an excellent boxer who walked into a prime Tyson (I think that Tyson's style and speed was the deciding factor) but he was never the same again.
Finally I have to say that I don't think that Naz Hamed wasted his talents, I think he made the best of them and then found out that maybe he wasn't the fighter he thought he was.
The fastest knockout I have seen (including the count) is when
Nicky Piper knocked out John Ellis in 12 seconds.
Not really a fair knockout as Ellis was reaching out his hand to touch gloves and Piper dropped one on him
i say bowe in his prime over lennox in his prime. lennox cannot take a great punch. he just uses his jab thats all he can do but he can't do that with a big man like bowe. thats y i say bowe over lewis
Bowe didn't want anything to do with Lewis, I wonder why... could it be that he knew he would have taken a real hammering? I don't think Bowe would have lasted past the 6th round, Lewis would have been fighting at a range he is comfortable at and he had the heavier punches as well as the better boxing skills. I also think that Lewis would have been up for this fight and been in the best shape of his life. Bowe on the other hand did seem to have a slight lack of discipline durign training.
I think there is a lot of hype about Toney. Lets not forget he is an aging middle weight who will soon be competing with some of the biggest heavyweights in history. People say that he has a great chin, at middleweight and lightheavy weight without a doubt this is true... but what happens when one of the big hitters lands one on him - I don't see how he will be able to take serious heavyweight damage.
On the plus side, I am looking forward to seeing him in against a big, heavy hitting, experienced fighter.... It will be a relief to finally have him shut up.
All I'm going of is what you said. What's there to understand ? The facts are...off of what he accomplished, he does not deserve to be in anyone's top 5.
What he could have been & what he was...are two different things.
Greats don't get rated on potential.
You are absolutely free to lament what coulda been.
Say what you want about his two fights with Ali, but they HAPPENED, & they were AWFUL.
I couldn't agree more. I understand that it is fun to think what if but the truth of the matter is that unless there is historical evidence that the guy could perform at top level against top fighters (consistently) then there is no way he could be rated in anyone's top 10 (especially considering all of the other heavyweights that have managed to perform at this level over the past hundred plus years)
