One of the best heavyweight rounds ive ever seen!
**** me i wasnt expecting that at all, what an amazing two and a bit rounds. Arreola is one tough kid, Walker was doing great at first aswell! Props to both!
Also "streetknownothing" out of hopkins last 5 fights, 4 of them were middleweights or junior middleweights, one of them is even talking about coming down to welterweight (dlh). The only guy he's fought his size in a good while is Tarver who is no-where near the fighter Joe is! Calzaghe UD he's just too much for old Popkins
Amir khan is the biggest prospect in boxing at the moment i dont care what any of you say. Yes he may be overhyped(a little bit) but you cant argue with his potential. Olympic silver medalist, beaten only by a living legend (Mario Kindelan) who he went on to defeat two months later. He's walked through all of his oponents to date (yes he was dropped by limond-small lapse in concentration-went on to knock limond out two rounds later!) Anialated Graham Earl who give Katsidas the shock of his life in his previous fight. Dominated St Clair for 12 rounds for a shutout, st clair hardly laid a glove on him-the same sinclair who gave corrales and vivian harris nightmares! The only boxer in the world i think with a major sports brand sponsorship deal (reekbok signed him up after half a dozen fights) Now how many fighters have reekbok drooling over their signature to endorse their goods.
Although Gamboa is pretty f**king special aswell!
I disagree, obviously i havnt met him face to face or anything but ive heard loads of interviews with him and to me he doesnt seem to respect his opponents at all, whether this is all just trash talk i dont know but he hypes himself up way to much for my liking and has done nothing to back his own comments up. This is just my opinion of him though. If i ever did meet him face to face and he did turn out to be a decnt enough guy who was humble and respecting i would give him his due but until that time, i can only go by what ive seen/heard from him in the media, which so far hasnt been good
I'd rather meet my doom than meet paulie malignaggi! Anyone else think he's the biggest arsehole in boxing? I hate the way he always refers to himself in the third person! "paulie malignaggi's a crossover star.....paulie malignaggi is the best in the world....blah blah blah" He's crap in my opinion, the only decent fight ive seen him have is against n'dou for the vacant title, and n'dou not exactly a world beater is he. And the way paulie acted when he'd beat him was like he'd just beaten mayweather or something! Didnt think much of him against cherry, obviously didnt think much of him against cotto (although he can take a beating well!) and i thought he lost the ngoudjo fight! I pray to god he and hatton meet at the end of the year at msg so ricky can put him in his place. Malignaggi things he's great for some unknown reason yet he's done nothing except win a vacant belt against a stepping stone fighter!
I don't get how people can say he's boring to watch either... After you get used to watching a guy like Rigo or Floyd move so smoothly in ring, slip and dodge punches with ease, all the while demonstrating demon like speed, watching even really good guys like Andre Ward seems less satisfying.
People don't understand how impressive it for a human being to do the things that Rigo is able to do in the ring... It's just a very rare thing...
Well said, unfortunately I don't think rigo will ever get the recognition he deserves. It's a travesty that one of the best pure boxers ever is little more than an urban legend known and loved by a small demographic of hardcore fans. If your a fan of the art of boxing you can't not like him. He makes world class fighters look like amateurs. I'm in awe of almost every move he makes. I pray that he gets the big fights his huge talent deserves soon.
Lmao I've been a boxing fan longer than you've been alive, bro. I know and appreciate good boxing when I see it. I've seen Rigo look great (as he did against Donaire) and I've seen him look awful (as he has in too many of his fights). The man has rarified talent, but let's not pretend he's entertaining, even to the diehards like me.
It's too bad about tonight, because Rigo looked like he might've been on his way to a rare entertaining performance. However, as I said before, he always seems to find a way to make for a boring or ugly fight. This evening it was an ugly "win," even if it stands up to a commission review.
I apologise for how that came across. I didn't intend to question your boxing knowledge. I wouldn't judge any fellow boxing fan on an opinion on any single fighter. I feel I must disagree however with what you deem as entertaining. To me, even when rigo doesn't throw punches I love watching how he slips and evades attacks, and how he pivots and shuffles out of danger effortlessly whilst keeping his amazing balance.
Maybe you'll say I'm just another rigo fanboy who thinks the sun shines out of his Arse no matter what....maybe I am ha
But to me he's a magician in there and he does things only very few can do or have ever been able to do. And I find every one of his fights fascinating. Maybe you could just be to impatient to enjoy style, I admit he's not for everyone
I wish we could of seen him get more rounds in. I bought this fight to see mainly to see Rigo fight.
After watching Rigo fight, Ward and Kovalev seem like lumbering oafs.
I was watching mainly for rigo too, obviously was really looking forward ward kova as well. The infrequency at which rigo fights And the opponents he's facing depresses me. When will the top guys step up and fight him. He's the best fighter in the world for me clearly along with loma. He has to step up next fight and go for the 126ers. Even though some of them will probably outweigh him by a stone on fight night I still fancy rigo to beat everyone in the division. Only guy who'd have a chance is Loma but again lomas huge compared to rigo. Shows you how good rigo is. He's the same size as an average super flyweight fighting much bigger fighters every time.
Let me start by saying that I think Rigo is ethereally talented...but he wins in either the most boring or ugly way possible. That is the reason HBO doesn't want him. If anything, Cubans get preferential treatment, or at least used to. These guys are bending over backwards trying to promote Rigo. It's too bad tonight's fight ended so stupidly. I do believe Rigo was going to hand Flores his ass one way or another.
How can you say rigs is boring or ugly. He's like an artist in there. He looks majestic with his amazing balance and footwork and timing. Every move he makes is calculated and textbook. It's like watching a masterclass whenever he fights. I'd rather watch rigs fight than ANYONE. Can't understand all the hate the guy gets. He's one of the best fighters I've ever seen and I've seen quite a few
Canelo wouldn't become the divisions first undisputed champion with the win.
joe calzaghe was undisputed.
when joe calzaghe fought kessler he was the ibf/wbo/ring champion and he beat kessler for his wba and wbc belts.
I wouldn’t call the french fries belt an “Upgrade”.....
Upgrade may have been the wrong terminology but you know what I meant. Loma was the true wbc champ so lopez should be recognised as the true champ too not haney, who won the full title via email.
How people can say rigo is boring is beyond me. Even just that one round I thought his footwork and movement looked fantastic, he looked totally at ease in there and in control at all times. To me he's a pleasure to watch and an absolute master at what he does. Can't wait to see again just hope we don't have to wait a year this time!
I love how Lampley grabbed the commissioner guy and forced an interview on him on live TV and basically made him admit that they will go back and DQ Rigo if the punch was indeed after the bell (which it was and was proven). LMAO HBO did a good job in that regard IMO, no one wants to see his boring ass on TV anymore.
If you think rigo is boring. You can't appreciate the art of boxing. Hit and not get hit.
But....he beat luke Campbell for the real WBC championship and then was upgraded to 'franchise champion' afterwards. Whereas devin was the interim wbc champion who was upgraded to full once lomachenko was upgraded. So in theory, lomachenko was the true WBC champion anyway.
so in my opinion lopez is undisputed. Without the stupid upgrade, devin would still be interim and lopez would hold all the 'true' championship belts. So this 'lopez isn't undisputed till he beats haney makes no sense.
Have to give Andre ward credit. I thought it was a bad (and strange) stoppage. either way fight was going pretty much how I thought it would. Kova came out strong, ward took his time to feel him out and get into the fight, then ward adjusted and stepped on the gas and was in the process of taking over the fight. Strange how fight ended. Looked like kova was looking to get a breather by claiming low blow. Should of just fought on and fight wouldn't of ended as it did. Saying that ward did have him in a bad position where kova was clearly in trouble but still it was never a stoppage. Ward did what he had to do though, respect. Not his fault it ended like that. Ward undisputed p4pno1 now (if criteria used is: resume, longevity, skills, world title fights, acomplishments)
(My personal p4p criteria is a little different)
