Who do you think from the up and coming young prospects / contenders will have a big break-out year in 2008??
Here are some of the guys I think will make some serious noise this year...
VANES MARTIROSYAN (19-0, 13KOs)

The young fighters who should have a big year:
Gamboa
Lee
Boytsov
Matirosyan
Pianeta
Fields
Abell
Platov
any videos on Lee or Gamboa???... hear alot about em but never seen their fights...
Yep i was gna comment on that too,i hear he sold all his gold medals so he could provide for his family,no wonder hes got god given talent, people who have a life like that wanna make it,no wonder all Cuban boxers are great, because there much more hungry then your average fighter
true... most future champions do grow up in the slums and ghettos and always dream for bigger better through their talent of boxing. It must be easier to stay real hungry comin from places like that.
They say he sold his gold medal to be able to buy his daughter a birthday present.

Damn 5 pages and nobody has mentioned the Peterson Bros. I got both of them getting bigger names and wins this year. Possibly titles also.
Oh shit, there on my sig aswell..they could break out this year, both very exciting, not to mention got so many skills, both brothers have got nearly everything in talent,i can see Anthony challenging for a title this year, but i dont know about Lamont,i think he could beat Ricardo Torres, beat him up nicely
Surprised none of you mentioned him..
Yoan Pablo Hernandez, a Cuban Cruiserweight fighter. KOed Azzaoui in 1 round when it took Maccarinelli 4 rounds to do it.

wow you serious???
u sure thats what he did... or did he melt the medal to make necklaces, braclets and rings out of it :D
i mean the guy is really pullin a Mr. T here...

U talking abou Gamboa? I just read it in the current issuse of Ring mag.
He most likely got the gold with his money from the the gold medals he won in the olympics

true, they have real good potential too as do the Dirrell brothers.
As you can see in my sig I think Andy and Andre will have good years. I don't know about Steward saying Andy could beat Pavlik right now, but I think by the end of the year he'll have a good win on his resume. Then Berto I think will as well, but to be honest I wouldn't doubt if he had a loss by the end of the year as well. Being that the WW division is loaded with talent.
i gotta throw out Rock Allen's name again, I've been waiting to see him emerge from prospect to contender and then eventually to champ.
i think he has the goods but he hasn't been as active as i would like. we'll see though, hopefully he fights more this year and starts to get some exposure.
He most likely got the gold with his money from the the gold medals he won in the olympics,in his last fight against Dejesus ( his American debut ) you could tell how hungry he was after the fight and how happy he was to be in America, they asked him how does it feel,he said he loves it and started pointing around the arena and was left speechless,u could tell hes real hungry to make money for him and his family, the guy escaped Cuba to join the pro's,it shows how much he loves the sport
Oh and another thing,Vanes has really improved from when i last seen him, between him and Chavez Jr im gna have to go with Vanes right now,Chavez doesnt impress me,Vanes has improved alot while he has not
true... training with Ronnie Shields has given new life to Vanes and instilled that hunger and killer instinct in him again.
he tells me "oh man, Ronnie keeps me so interrested in boxing and I have so much fun training... we are always working on new things and looking for constant improvement".
I spoke with Bob Arum after his last fight in Vegas and Bob promised some big things for Vanes by end of this year, lets hope he stays true to his words.
Here is Vanes with Ronnie after the latest TKO3 Victory...

great list of prospects Bishop... see now I know some more young guys to follow... and maybe one of em will face Vanes Martirosyan this year and we will see sparks fly huh...
not too sure about the Gamboa kid in that first pic... by the looks of it with all that gold on, I think he is already goin off track and showing lack of focus as a true hungry up and comer that should stay humble and calm.

Andre Berto is a force to be reckoned with and i think that if he had a chance to fight Cintron or Quintana for a belt, he would definatley have a chance to beat them.
Amir khan is the biggest prospect in boxing at the moment i dont care what any of you say. Yes he may be overhyped(a little bit) but you cant argue with his potential. Olympic silver medalist, beaten only by a living legend (Mario Kindelan) who he went on to defeat two months later. He's walked through all of his oponents to date (yes he was dropped by limond-small lapse in concentration-went on to knock limond out two rounds later!) Anialated Graham Earl who give Katsidas the shock of his life in his previous fight. Dominated St Clair for 12 rounds for a shutout, st clair hardly laid a glove on him-the same sinclair who gave corrales and vivian harris nightmares! The only boxer in the world i think with a major sports brand sponsorship deal (reekbok signed him up after half a dozen fights) Now how many fighters have reekbok drooling over their signature to endorse their goods.
Although Gamboa is pretty f**king special aswell!
amir khan.
i've seen him vs st claire in real life and he is just very sharp and doesn't miss a lot. he is also very fit and throws quite a few punches a round. he has suspect defence, but uit's not bad as people think. he just doesn't have the reflexes or ehad mvoement to get out the way froma fast punch.
this kid may be overhyped which i do think he has. mainly down to frankw arren though. anyway he's got a good chance of beating katsidis by boxing him and then going for a ko. that is ofcourse katsidis doesn't make it a war and ko khan lol
