vince phillips was a very good fighter.
it's well known that kostya had training and diet issues before the phillips fight.
he fixed his training and diet after the loss. looking at what he did afterwards , hard to deny it.
sometimes a loss makes the fighter better.
joe has never loss so we could never tell how he would have handled it.
maybe kostya should have fought 43 yr. olds instead of vince or ricky......
well said.....
No offence but i think other than Jim Lampley and a fella who used to be on showtime (i think) american boxing commentators are terribble they say the most annoying things. On Setanta in the UK most american fights have the Top Rank commentators they have about 5 people commentating and they all say things that dont make sense. My favourite commentators are
Reg Gutteridge
Ian Darke
Jim Watt (co commentator)
Anybody here make it to the finals? Here in NY the finals are held in Madison Square Garden. I didn't make it (or enter), but this year 3 people from my gym are in the finals. I'm hitting the Garden next Thursday. Anyone else going to compete/watch?
I am going to New York on the th and i think they start on the th i wont be able to go but does anyone know if i can still get a programme (if they have them their)
I selected Paul williams just because hes awkward big a lanky and would like to see how Mayweather would fight against him. Shane Mosley would be a great fight as would Cotto.
How about making the undercard important.
Not only did the UFC card crown a #1 contender to the Lightweight title, it put Damian Maia in serious contention for the Middleweight title as well.
When has that happen in Boxing?
im not really a fan of UFC but i agree that in ufc the whole show contains bouts which consist of fighters of equal abilities. Boxing nowadays has boring undercards. But although i despise Don King his cards of the 90's were great i wish it could go back to that way. There was always competitive fights on his cards.
are people still going on about Kahn omg..... Kahn is finished prescott would smash him up even quicker than he did the first time if they fought again. At the end of the day Kahn was all hype and i said that from day one. Frank Warren and Kahn thought they were fighting another bum for there debut on SKY and then he got KO'd by him. Anyone know when prescott is fighting next
on paper hes has the est record i think but there are far better fighters from britain:
Ken Buchannan
John Conteh
Nigel Benn
Chris Eubank
Charlie Burley
Randolph Turpin etc
Jones would win... roy jones the other night looked very slow on his feet and was only throwing single shots he should of retired ages ago...calzaghe will probably retire now as there are no more pensioners left for him to fight
The fight was a big thing for both parties.
For Khan, it was an opportunity to show the world if he had the ability to stand up to someone who knows the ring like the back of his hand.
For Barerra it was an opportunity to show the world that he can still fight.
However NEITHER fighter was able to prove ANYTHING AT ALL!
NOTHING!
We saw nothing in that fight. Okay yes was saw hand speed, but Khan has had that since forever. What's new that we didn't know? Seriously, ask yourselves some questions here when we look at the outcome of the fight.
Did Khan break Barerra down till he couldn't hold his hands up any longer and the ref had to stop the fight? No.
Did Khan beat Barerra so bad he was knocked out? No.
Did Khan consistently hurt Barerra at any time in the fight? No. (Even the commentators who thought Khan hurt Barerra had to correct themselves and say it was the clash that Barerra was wincing over).
Did Khan beat Barerras face so bad he got a serious cut that ended the fight? No.
So someone tell me what Khan achieved that is so monumental? The fight was a load of shit. NO REAL boxing fan should be happy about the way that fight went, only fanboys, which is what you'd expect. Can you imagine what people would say if it was Khan who got that cut? They would have NEVER let it go on for 5 rounds.
Now...to those who say the cut meant nothing because Khan was dominating Barerra etc.
When the ref/doc tells you they might stop the fight because of a cut you got from a clash of heads in round ONE, where do you go from there? Where does your strategy go?
Barerra was the smaller, shorter armed guy who really NEEDED to get inside to get to work on Khan. When you have a cut that is ALREADY so bad that the fight could be stopped, getting inside is suicide.
You cant go in first with your head because any rub/knock on a glove/arm/chest could **** your cut up even more and with the gash that Barerra had, getting inside would've shortened the time he had in the ring even more. (You can see evidence of this at the time when the fight was actually stopped as barerra had his head inside and was in khans arms. When he emerged with blood all over his face, the ref became weary and called him over to the doc and the fight was stopped.)
Instead he opted to try and stay outside and box/potshot from the outside against a faster, longer armed, taller opponent..............all with only his right eye to see out of for 90% of the fight......
Noone should be surprised that it didn't work .
The thing that really sickens me, is not the fighters (you can't blame either boxer for the cut that stopped the fight), but the commentators and peoples attitude towards it.
They were talking like Khan pulled off a really big win. Yes he looked good (against someone with one eye for 90% of the time lol), but what part of that contributed to his win? Not one part of his effort in training, or in the ring contributed to it.
It sickens me that people are looking at this like Khan pulled a number on Barerra. I'm hardly a big fan of either fighter (so don't bother with the sour grapes arguement), but I knew there was potential for a real big fight and I was extremely excited about viewing it, but it never happened.
If I was Khan, there's no way I'd be fully satisfied with that win.
As a boxer, there's no way I'd be fully satisfied with that win.
As a boxing fan, there's no way I'd be fully satisfied with that win, and I'm not.
That is all.
Wow lots of words lol.
Spot on... The cut was a big factor in the fight as soon as i seen the blood squirting out even when they had a huge blob of grease on it i thought they should have stopped it and that was between rounds 1 and 2. All of a sudden just becoz Kahn got the decision over Barrera Khan fans now think that Khan will destroy Prescott.
WTF!!! did Khan referee the fight? he did what he had to do,and in all honesty looked good while doing it.I dont particularly like khan, but I respect the way he has made the neccesary adjustments to come back from his ko loss, and yet muppets like you still shit on him.It is not his fault the way the fight ended,or the way it panned out after the cut,but he still had a job to do.What was he supposed to do?Have a word with the ref and ask him to stop it? get a fuqqing clue!
True Khan is not to blame its not his fault he did what any other fighter would have but he never obliterated barrera the way ppl make out the cut stopped the fight. In my opinion the the fight meant nothing, even if he did obliterate Barrera
After Khan's world-class showing last night, I think his speed and movement would be too much for Mayweather. And he's got Roach in his corner to come up with the gameplan to pick Mayweather apart. He'd be a more formidable opponent than JMM.
Then maybe the winner of this fights Pac-Man?
r my eyes decieveing me or do you have a picture of audley harrison as your avatar and have you just said the khan would pick mayweather a part.
Pernell Whittaker amazing and dodging no one who is better, the only person close is Ali but he mostly danced round his opponents and was very hard to hit
This kid knows nothing about boxing dont listen to him he jus read books and copies it into the forum
I hope Haye beats Klitscko. It would be good for boxing having an exciting heavyweight champion. I can't see how anyone likes watching The klitsckos especially Wladimir they are so boring David Haye is all out action. I mean his fight with Sultan Ibragimov was terrible i cant believe i wasted a night of my life watching that crap. Wladimir Klitscko to my imnd has never been in an exciting fight and i cant see how he has any fans. The Klitsckos seem like nice guys but i hope they get KO'd for boxings sake.
i am from england btw
as far as boxing goes america is and always has been better. You will get one top brit eg. hatton, lewis, conteh etc. but overall america has had the better boxers in any era. my top ten all time greats would have no brits in tbh.
but i hope haye becomes heavyweight champ
lacy was not a top fighter jones and eubank wer past their primes hopkins was still good but not at his peak (would have beaten calzaghe in his day) kessler is the only top quality fighter calzaghe has fought. All of those fighters would have beaten calzaghe except maybe benn because of the weight difference, leonard was smaller but would be to quick and clever for JOE. Calzaghe was the best of a bad division. When benn fought the super middleweight division was a tough divison.
Tyosn fury is goin on as if hes world champion... same with degale. He says he knocked down price in amateurs and price hung on for dear life but to fair Price won 22-8 and in my eyes thats a pasting
HA HA!!!!! DRY YOUR EYES HATERS!!!!!!
so much for all these claims thAT "china chinned british hypejob" kahn was getting kod!!! LMFAO!!!!!
a rematch would be cool but every one knows barrera simply could not compete with kahn on any level!!!!
he landed a headbutt that did more damage to himself than kahn!!
he also landed literally 1 or 2 shots that had no effect on kahn!!!!
as naz`s wife aleasha elphinstone/HAMED is acousin of 2 of my best mates! we had a big party celabrating kahns emphatic victory!
im just sorry barrera got cut! coz it was heading for a spectacular stoppage/ko!
kahn looked amazing! defensive yet aggressive!! he stepped in with blurring combinations while stepping back out of range just as quick!
barrera just (despite his excuses)could not cope with kahn!!
for all the deluded haters who think it should have been ruled a no contest!!
lets have a rematch at the MGM!,however anyboby with 2 braincells knows that this "glass chinned british hype job" was simply far too much for barrera!!
so a rematch is unlikley & despite his excuses i didnt hear marco calling for a rematch!!!!!
amir rammed it down the throat of all his critics!
after seeing that, anyone who thinks barrera was "robbed" of a no-contest are just desparate, delusional haters!!!!!
praise allah & north england!!!!
REVENGE IS SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:439::439::439:
1. Are you saying that Khan would have beaten the Barrera who beat Hamed
2. No offence but its quite sad celebrating that Khan beat a washed up Barrera just because he outclassed Hamed
