Hi, I am new to this forum and after the hitman's performance on Saturday, I am of the firm belief that over the past 50 years British boxers are much better than American boxers, Lewis, Hatton etc

So Sugar Ray Robinson never beat a British boxer then? Picture Earls Court in 1951? The Brit, Randy Turpin, beat him on points! I believe that Lennox lewis speaks with a Canadian accent and so was brought up there. Being born here means nothing about nationality as he knows nothing about the place! Benn, calzaghe, Honeyghan, Bruno, Buchanan, Minter, Watt and Marshall all :nana:smashed your boys in World title fights!
i am from england btw
as far as boxing goes america is and always has been better. You will get one top brit eg. hatton, lewis, conteh etc. but overall america has had the better boxers in any era. my top ten all time greats would have no brits in tbh.
but i hope haye becomes heavyweight champ
Its a hard argument considering america has 10 times more athletes than Britain due to the size difference. But apart from Lewis, unless Hatton and Calzaghe have and win some major fights this year id say america has the better boxers. The likes of De La Hoya, Roy Jones Jr, Mosely,Winky Wright,Floyd Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins are in a different league compared to most British boxers.
I agree, but they do have a bigger pond than the UK, but to put things on level..
Zaghe, Hatton, Benn, Eubank, Naseem, Lennox, Hatton, McGuigan, Buchanan, John Conteh
X 10
That wouldn't be a bad turn out.
P4P the UK produces the better boxers than America, if you cut the US boxing talent to 1/10th to the size of the UK you wouldn't have much to go on?
To me it's like saying my gym produces more talent than yours...yes but your gym holds 100 boxers with 10 rings but but my gym only holds 10 boxers with 1 rung....
It's all academic! because America is HUGE!
In other words if America was the size of the UK, the UK would produce the better boxers.
I can assure you that I am not an alternate account, I am merely a passiionate boxing fanatic who is just expressing his views. You may agree with me, you may not, I don't care, that is the beauty of an open forum like that.
The reasoning behind my views in my last post:
Benn has a better amateur record than Ali
Bruno beat McCall, Tyson beat Bruno, Lewis beat Tyson, Williams beat Tyson, Harrison beat Williams, Collins beat Eubank & Benn and retired as the champion.
Simple
McGuigan was probably better than what Maywhatever is now
Rule Britannia!
Steady on fellas i only voiced my opinion.....
The stats don't lie
Benn is better than Ali
Lewis is better than Foreman
Audley Harrison is better than Tyson
Steve Collins prbably the best fighter of all time

Before there was Las Vegas, there was Madison Square Garden. And even before MSG, we still had legendary fighters.
The greats came from relatively poor neighborhoods. Recently, other sports have been sucking up a lot of the talent from becoming potential boxers. Britain, IMO, does a better job of taking care of the poor than the US. So it's not surprising that you won't have as many "hungry" fighters as here in the US.
I agree.
Boxers in Britain aren't always from the more marginalised sections of society (i.e. most well known US fighters are black or Latino), in the UK a lot of high profile Boxers seem to be in the sport through choice.
