I respectfully disagree with bhop on this one.
Respectfully, offering JMM an amount lower than what you know he wants wasn't going to get the fight signed.
I disagree. Rios TKO was impressive, Thats why Bob mde the rematch-it was assumed Rios would win again in same thrilling fashion. But Mike made adjustments and won-and it wasn't questionable it was clear and because it was unexpected it made it at least as impressive as the tko.
why do you describe movement as running? when an opponent is losing a fight, he is supposed to adjust his style and uses every legal tool at his disposal to win. he's not supposed to stand there and get hit and lose because it makes you as a fan feel better.
Agree. Rios,if he acts like we are used to, will make the 24/7 must see. But almost all of manny's fans have posted how they detest this form of marketing and promotion when its employed by a floyd or broner.
Mike is quiet, fights hard, is respectful, and won his last fight. These are all qualities pac fans cite in Manny that they love. SO it would make sense Mike would get a fight with the bigger payday because he pulled the huge upset.
This is a repetitive pattern for Manny. Just like Morales/Raheem Manny is going to fight the loser and not the winner. Business wise I understand the move. But I think you can admit it looks funny.
Agree with most of your points, sad thing is boxing has become more a business than a sport especially when dealing with millions of dollars in PPV. It doesn't look funny to me cause I understand how the decisions are being made- the 3rd fight with Morales would easily draw out the most amount of views, same reason the 4th fight with Marquez was made. Money aside, IF it was up to Pac he would've wanted the 5th fight with Marquez.
And I used running for lack of better term, let me change it to back pedaling or fighting on the back foot. Like you said it could be the case where the fight isn't as exciting because if Alvarado gets tagged cleanly, it could turn into Pac vs Shane or Pac vs. Cotto in the later rounds, I still believe he'd get the TKO- but there won't be as much fireworks than Rios.
It would be nice for Alvarado to get a big paycheck fight like Pac, he does seem like a respectable guy but honestly neither him or Rios deserve a fight of this caliber- just like I didn't think Guerrero deserved a Mayweather fight. At least us fans hopefully get Provodnikov vs Alvarado and Alvarado vs Rios 3 in the future- that'll get his name out there.
Anyway, this IS a tune-up fight to bring Pac back up but I do believe after getting KTFO it's a much tougher type of tune-up than most fighters would take after such a loss. Like Tyson said, everyone has a plan until they get hit. I'm interested to see how Pac will react once that happens.
The surest way to see if Rios is all Hype is to put him in front of MaRQUEZ. If Marquez had trouble with pillow puncher Diaz how much more could a Rios possibly do.
You could put Rios with Provodnikov and Bradley you still wouldn't know who would win. Cross over to Golden Boy, Guerrero and Rios would be a gore fest. Ortiz-Rios would be a mismatch. Khan Rios would be a laugh fest.
One defeat and people say Rios is all hype.
Agreed, happening with a lot of fighters-
Styles make fights and lately it seems like because one fighter had a bad outing or isn't as technically skilled as another boxer- they're counted out right away and labeled as a bum.
Lot of fans discredit the come forward "mexican" warrior style of fighting as no skills when it's as legitimate of a style as sticking and moving. It's part of the game, a lot of boxers wouldn't be able to put pressure on fighters like Rios does as well as take the punches he takes without going down. Takes a lot of heart and will, and that alone can make a fight competitive.
If Pac is fine after that KO with his usual conditioning, he should make short work of Rios- like Pac-Margartio. That's a big IF we don't know tho-
Dirk Diggler UK's point was correct about the cancelling of the Macau card being graver. Also, and I may be wrong on this, but I think that when they were originally setting up this fight that the date was to be in October rather than November.
Even though I think Rios is made for Pacquiao, as is Alvarado, and I think Pacquiao will batter Rios to a stoppage I don't think it is by any stretch of the imagination an easy fight. For a start there is no way a fight against an opponent as good as Rios could ever be easy, especially with his style. Secondly we don't really know whether Pacquiao will be in the correct condition, of body and mind, to get the win. Far from being easy this is actually a pretty gutsy fight to take coming off a devastating knockout loss. He could have taken an easier tune up fight first against some mediocre fighter. I suppose though that Pacquiao needs the larger money that will be generated against Rios rather than against a lesser opponent.
I don't think fighting Rios rather than Alvarado is particularly odd.
Completely agree with this
Neither ran in that sense, both are counter punchers so it led to a less than exciting fight. Donaire was the one who had to change his style to initiate the action, and once Rigo started catching him he was afraid to let his hands go.
Both are great fighters, just Donaire couldn't adjust to being the aggressor and throw combinations. Seemed like he had no other game plan other than go for the left-hook KO which is disappointing for a fighter of his caliber. Donaire could've easily let Rigo initiate the action, but he seemed to be affected by the boos and tried to press the fight.
It's like when Marquez fought Mayweather- Marquez is an amazing fighter in his own right, but fighting out of his style made him very uncomfortable. Doesn't help that both Rigo and Mayweather were faster than them either so every time they threw the first punch, they could expect a quick counter to follow.
Of course I didn't paint Mike like that nor did I say he'd beat Pac. I truthfully pointed out mike can box-you took it to the extreme to argue it. Stop acting like I said or implied he was floyd/ward/rigo.
As for my agenda, it's simple: Relative to manny its Fight the guy that just beat the guy your signed to fight. relative to his fans its-stop pretending rios is a tough fight. admit he got the fight because he his style makes it more likely manny will not just win, but look impressive.
You got actual fighters like B-Hop saying it's a tough fight and that Pac is brave to take it, yet he must be wrong cause he's a fan..
Again most fighters wouldn't fight a Rios OR an Alvarado after getting KTFO like Pac did. They would go for a softer touch to ease back into it. We don't know how Pac's chin is nor how he will react to getting tagged with a heavy punch. Despite this, even before the Rios fight was signed, Pac wanted to go for an immediate 5th fight with Marquez in April, yet you think he's taking the easy way out fighting Alvarado over Rios.
Rio's TKO over Alvardo was much more impressive than Alvardo's UD- you even watch the fights? You're acting like Rios got dominated when he put Alvardo in a tough fight.
I see Pac vs Alvarado playing out like Pac vs Cotto and Pac vs Rios playing out like Pac vs Margarito-
Alvarado would get tagged and start running like Cotto while Rios despite getting tagged would still come forward and bring the fight to you like Marg. Neither fighter is as good as Cotto or Margarito, and it'll end the same way with a KO/TKO if Pac is even a shell of his former self in the ring.
Marketing wise, Rios is an easier sell especially through the 24/7 series hyping the fight- made fun of roach's parkinsons, personality easier to hate on TV, **** talks, etc.
