All I keep reading is that people don't like Rigondeaux because he runs away. But in that fight wasn't he the one working in the pocket, while Nonito was the one who didn't have a clue what to do on the inside?
Any one have the gif of Nonito running like a pu$$yy in the 12? That was ridiculous :lol1:
A couple of guys have posted that GIF. It's funny and surreal at the same time. Nonito was in pure survival mode.
Both. Rigo chased him though. Donaire showed to much respect. Not the Donaire i know. Weird fight.
It's easy to watch a fighter and wonder why they're not doing this or that. These guys aren't machines; they're human beings. You weren't in that ring feeling what Donaire felt: the power; the timing; the speed of Rigondeaux. It's a different ballgame when you have an elite fighter before you. Nonito couldn't have liked what he felt, otherwise he would've tried to chase Guille down like he did Mathebula.
The fact is, Rigo could've KOed Donaire almost as easily as Nonito could've KOed Guillermo. Donaire felt that grim reality. That's why he was conservative for most of the night, and ran for dear life in the closing moments of the fight.
i hate runners too but i dont consider what rigo did running...he was conservative with his punches tho .. derrick gainer vs jmm was running, floyd vs baldomir was running , not rigo vs donaire...
even if he was, you cant really blame the guy , he was fighting a very good fighter with ko power in both hands...
it was noticeable tho imo that nonito had one game plan coming to the fight and thats to land that lefthook expecting it to be over which was a big mistake.. in fact when he threw right hands , rigo was not hitting back (he knew that left could be coming) exept in the 12th round when nonito threw it from way too far while chasing rigo in straight line , which resulted that eye injury courtesy of rigo staright left...
Great post, puga. I not only agree with your comments, but, coming from you, they're particularly satisfying. It gets so old reading all this nonsense about Rigo's "running." People just don't know what the hell they're talking about. Thank you.
I picked Nonito to win that fight and if you look at my bets I took a bit of a drubbing as a result. So I would be the first to say if Rigo was boring.
But even though he has been in the past I didn't find him so in this fight. He put on a very skillful performance and made Nonito look bad.
fair enough but the fact that you acccuse nonito of running in that fight leads people to belive you really did'nt see the fight.... i mean did you really see the fight ?....

I'm probably the only one but I actually enjoyed their fight. the first 6 rounds was tense as hell. How often do you get 2 prime fighters, fighting each other.
Tense because you were waiting for something to happen!
This is all I remember from that night.

Same here, the fight itself was boring with all that running from Rigo. It's probably the reason HBO and TR don't want him anymore :lol1:

Neither ran until the 12th, when Donaire got his eye popped and started backpedaling. The rest of the fight was a boxing match, and for the first few rounds they stood in front of each other.
This thread will bring out all the donaire fanboys and excuses....
Rigo schooled him and smashed his face up.......FACT
Donaire tasted rigo's counters and became gunshy......FACT
Donaire wont rematch Rigo, instead will stay at 122 for VIC rematch... FACT
Donaire scared of RIGO.......
1. Somewhat true. He clearly beat him
2. False. He didn't truly feel Rigo's power until the 12th or 11th when he started seeing double (covering up his eye with his glove)
3. Donaire already said he wants a rematch but perhaps they should fight other people first. False
4. False
Rigondeaux's running was glaringly visible. It's uncomfortable to watch if you're a fan of his. It's like he wanted no part of the action.
You may not want to hear it, but the booing said it all.
If you're avoiding the action, you're running. Taking a stroll to the other side of the ring is what? ADD? They should probably start deducting points for delaying the game!
That said, Donaire was clueless on what to do when he did catch him.
the only round where donaire was explicitly running/back peddling/moving backwards was in the last round when rigo landed that huge left hand that caused that bad swelling under his right eye...
for the most part donaire was coming forward trying to be the aggressor while rigo was boxing and moving...
If you watch any of Rigondeaux's boxing matches, the first thing you notice is that all he does is run and taunt his opponent to keep chasing him, while throwing counter straights. He is only the agressor when his opponent is in danger (i.e. when nonito's eye closed). But he has an excuse for the running; he can't fight without getting dropped or wobbled..
Donaire can run all he wants in that fight because he had the belt. The challenger is supposed to fight like he really wants it. It turned out that all the challenger wanted was to survive the fight. Donaire fought two battles. A running man and the huge responsibility to entertain the audience.
