This definitely shows class by Lou. And I hope that if Jermain does win, he shows homage to this move. Many of Taylor's fans are cautioning him against fighting again. But though he got beat bad by Abraham, it was a competitive fight. We have all heard so many times how styles make fights, and Taylor is the only guy in the last decade to beat Hopkins, and he did it twice. Maybe he'll be more than a match for Ward... you never know. But if he does get stopped in this next fight, he certainly has to call it quits...
I agree. Pacquiao and Mayweather really are tied for the top P4P spot. Anyone who can get by their partisan feelings for one or the other will also agree.
Should they meet, a 15-rounder would indeed be the ultimate matchup. It is too bad that it's been dropped in very high profile fights, though I suppose it has its reasons (safety mostly). Still, I would second that motion for these two!
They should just do this at 147. If it's for the title, than it should be at 154 (or at least closer to 154 than 147). But I think going up to 154 against a big guy like Margarito is more trouble than it's worth for team Pacquiao.
This is the best of all the mediocre options.
But really, short of Mayweather committing, none of the potential match ups are really that great.
I just hope they don't go for a Cotto rematch. Zero interest there...
I definitely appreciate the background of the judges, but it seems quite strange to call any judge's scoring "perfect". Unfortunately there is no such thing in boxing; everything is relative.
On second look, the author of the article, "Pod", might have had a lot to do with spinning their particular method as "perfect".
Very interesting, but taken with a grain of salt
this is a good step for Alvarez. Mosley is dangerous, but he's old and past his prime. Good stepping stone. and who knows, maybe Mosley's got another good one left. Not likely though. This is probably Alvarez's time to step into the big leagues.
In my mind, this is one of the better alternative match ups for Pacquiao now that the Maywheather deal is dead. There are other great fighters in the division, but Clottey is certainly one of the best of those who is available for that time. Plus, Clottey is a tough guy and a solid boxer. It won't be a walk in the park for either men.
Unfortunately it's true... There really are no better opponents (other than his brother -- too bad that will never happen!).
At this point, though, the Klitschko's are contributing to a weakened HW division. There really are no world class heavyweights other than the Klitschko's, so as soon as anyone comes up in line for a title shot, they run into a brick wall (partly because the K2 are so good, and partly because the contenders are so green). Because they are the only legitimate heavyweights, no one can really develop professionally without facing them. But in the end they all end of playing the losing end of "Vargas vs. Trinidad".
It's really a shame they won't find each other. Completely understandable, but still a total shame for the boxing fan.
Pac vs Mosley would be a waste of time, just a money grab with a faded big name. If Mayweather doesn't step up, Pacquiao should fight a couple of the young stars. It could be game changing for any of them.
So Valuev is gonna hit Vitali in the face for free cause he is offended when he can get paid 2.5 million to do it, makes no sense
that about sums it up
Good assessment.
I've often found it very surprising how few people seem to recognize the damage Pacquiao took in the Margarito fight. In retrospect, it was quite stupid to put him in with such a huge guy (by Pacquaio's) standard, just to be able to give him another weight class to win in. It was a huge risk, and I think Team Pacquiao paid more than they realized at the time. Of course, given Pacquiao's loyalty, he'll take whoever Arum puts him in with, and Arum's concern is and always has been about maximizing Bob Arum's money.
If Martinez came down to 147, then it would be a good and competitive fight that could go either way. 154 would be a mistake, and I think both Manny and Martinez know it.
Instead, how about Martinez-Williams III.
The division isn't likely to get better until the Klitchkos are gone.
There are no established heavyweights other than them, so every new prospect coming up has to deal with them before really maturing into a more well rounded fighter.
You hit the nail on the head about Haye...
It's odd; I've never liked the Klitchkos. Sure they are excellent fighters, but for some reason I just never liked them. Then Haye came along, and I think I actually like the Klitchkos now!
I really don't know why he is running for office now. Like another commenter said, why not wait until you retire? You can do politics in a wheelchair, so why rush it?
Hopefully it doesn't distract from any upcoming fights. Though he has run before and still manages to get his head together for fight time (Marquez was a bit of an exception).
I'm a huge Pac fan and really want to see the Mayweather fight go down, if for no other reason than they are the two best guys in boxing today, at the same weight class, and they are the two "invincible" boxers who have the best tools for beating the other unbeatable guy.
Not surprising, and you can't blame Pac. But it does take something away from the fight, especially the so-called 8 division title. I'm a huge Pac supporter, but if he were to win this, that record definitely deserves as asterisk beside it. 150 really is closer to to Welterweight. At least make it 151.
I think it's silly he's trying to move up in weight at all. He is a very small welterweight, and probably rarely even weighs that much when he's not training. Plus Margarito is a big guy for that weight limit. It's not like he's fighting Mayweather, another small welterweight at 150-154.
I definitely appreciate the background of the judges, but it seems quite strange to call any judge's scoring "perfect". Unfortunately there is no such thing in boxing; everything is relative.

Goosen obviously had an enormous personal bias in this, but he happens to be right. I have zero desire to see Pac/Cotto II. If it wasn't for Margarito's tainted record, that would be a very intriguing fight. But honestly, he doesn't deserve it.
I'm glad Mayweather is fighting a legitimate foe in Cotto. For a while I thought Mayweather's bizarre obsession with being compared to Pacqquiao would prevent it ("People will say I'm fighting his leftover's....").
This is a great fight for Cotto, who deserves it, and is one of the most formidable options for Mayweather other than Pacquaio. Still doesn't explain why he didn't give Martinez a go, though...
Yeah I don't see Margarito winning a decision, unless he does overwhelm Manny, who shows that his chin is actually that good.
Margarito by KO
or Pac by KO or decision.
