Ashamed? no, dissapointed? yes, it wasn't as if it was a spanking was it? each round was pretty close but Wlad was the better man on the night, the tally of points on paper show a whitewash but to any unbiased boxing fan it was close all the way through, the main question should be how ashamed are the klit fans that their man couldn't knock out a jumped up cruiser weight? i think there is more shame there.
In hes prime 1985-1990 Mike Tyson had a fantastic defense. He was never really hurt og wobbly. as far as i remember he was only hit by one really good punch, and that was an uppercut by Tony Tucker in the 1 round in 1987.
Hes headmovement, speed, great shape and good tactics made him the greatest defenser by all time in hes prime.
everybody give him credit for hes great punching power, but i think hes defense is pretty underrated.:boxing:Bruno managed to wobble him when Tyson was in his prime.
Its funny but even the british comentators had valuev winning,I think perhaps because they have seen how difficult it can be to get a decision in germany it influenced the way they scored it as they were trying to think how the judges might interprit the fight however thankfully they seen sense,I actually had hay winning by a few rounds.Exactly, you only have to look back at the Robbin Ried and Sven Otke fight of a few years ago to see how the Brits get stitched up over in Germany, Haye got the right decision and i'm amazed at how many turds on here would of prefered Valuev to keep plodding around getting dodgy decisions, Wether you like Haye or not this is the best thing to happened to the HW division in a long time.
I liked David Haye as a cruseirweight but never saw long term success for him as a heavyweight. In fact, I hated when he instantly claimed the Enzo fight to be his last ever at 200.
Not to mention for all of the massive amounts of shit he talked ever since the Barrett fight about he's going to shake up the division, he quite honestly looks like any other heavyweight.
If what he did was wise against Valuev, then how exactly do you think he'll approach a fight w/ either Klitschko - assuming he ever steps foot in the ring with either?
But as far as the thread title goes - I agree that too much emphasis is placed on the most recent performance, but it doesn't always mean it's not true.
Chad Dawson's last three fights (and really his shaky performance in the 1st Johnson fight) are clear indications that he's a boxer first and foremost. We can pretend that he's something else, but even by his own admission, a boxing clinic is his primary objective.
Miguel Cotto's last fight is a better indication of his win-at-all-costs mentality than was the Margarito fight. Using the same fight, do we need further proof that Joshua Clottey is a frontrunner who will finds a way to mentally collapse if the fight is any sorts of close down the stretch?
Floyd... do I really need to finish?
What Have You Done For Me Lately isn't always the best way to gauge a fighter, but sometimes it's a lot safer to go by what you see rather than what you hear. Fighters like Haye depend on the latter to market themselves, simply to mask the former. If the Haye / any Klit fight materialises i am pretty sure he would fight a completely different fight again, there wouldn't be the huge height and weight advantage for a start and i'm pretty sure neither of the Klits would just plod forward swinging slow blows, Haye will adjust his style again and would have to use his skill as the Klits would make him have to fight, as for his step up in weight i think we have yet to see Haye fight to his full potetial, he has the skill and he certainly has the power, his staminer he can work on but my only concern would be his chin, unlike others on this board i'll give Haye the chance to prove himself before flinging the poop. i just wish he would stop all the trash talk, thats the one thing that makes it hard for me to warm to American boxers and is making it hard for me to like Haye as a person.
Ha
What a fight, congrats to both guys...please may the khan haters rest. He fought a great fight, took shots, answered all the questions...is he the finished article? Hell no! A fighter with his speed should not be getting caught that much and he needs to learn how to avoid uppercuts...but then again I think most of the damage was done in the 10th, and that can happen against such a big puncher.
Maidana can win a world title, is he an elite fighter? No, but definitely world level. He is certainly better than juan urango, and ricardo torres, 2 recent south american punchers in the 140 weight class.
Give both guys props, and give me a ****ing break on the referee! Maidana deserved a deduction for the elbow, and yes cortez does break fighters up too quickly...thats his style always has been, everyone knows this, it worked against ricky hatton, and today against maidana...but in neither case would it have changed the outcome of the fight...if anything the quick breaks were helping maidana when khan was hurt late in the fight, khan could have been deducted a point for holding though. By the way just watched the 11th round back for a 2nd time...clearly a khan round in my opinion.
Digest...im off to bedThis is exactly as i see it too.
