So as a newbie to this site I am looking for your thoughts on the best site and why, here is my top 5.
1. BoxingScene of course for haveing the best form and best feel to it, I must admit I am new to this site, been here for a few weeks and can't keep away.
2. boxrec : for its information and in depth records on all fighters.
3. theboxinghistorian : this has the best ranking system hands down, good historic content and nice layout.
4. ESPN : Just because I love reading Dan Rafael.
5. SecOut : For fighter Interviews.
Whats your thoughts, remember no links on this thread.
In then last two months this site has gone from being worth over 700k to now just 300k
boxing chaos is worth a whopping $32
true
I just cant beleive how the site dropped off more than 350k in less than 2 months
Some Web site's algorithm is no way to assess the value of any Web site.
One of the main reasons I use Firefox is thanks to the ad block plus plugin. There is nothing out there free or commercial that beats this baby.
I was a huge Opera fan and I thought I would never get off it but now I am using Win 7 and there is no real need for a firewall which is what was control the ads in XP, that being outpost firewall with adblock, so I tried firefox with ad block plus and I was damn, I am sold like gold. Of course I still have all the major popular web browsers installed and the one that give every coder the most trouble is IE, IE fails in so many ways, it's trully a coders worst nightmare. :grumble:
I know, i belong to a small clan of friends from a now defunct forum that has stuck together, including the forum admin, and these guys are really good with pc related stuff, and almost all of them use FF. I don't disagree with you, but i just like ei8 better. i just set the security settings and go. A lot of stuff isn't compatible like a said in FF and you miss out on some web content because the filters are too strong.
I've even just recently had a good friend of mine on this site make me a slimmed down ready to go version of ff with adblock, and i still can't see my dam username in red, and the caption in blue in FF. I figure if I'm missing that, what else is not showing up? I'd rather invest a bit in good security software and just be careful, than to not see everything on the web.
I have no problems at this time, so I'm happy. I think people who like ff really look down at ie..i really don't care, as long as it works. And it does. It's fast, reliable (now) but remember, win 7 just came out, so there will be issues to straighten out.
If it makes more work for programmers, i don't see how, i would think they would have more work in gett FF to show content i can see in ie but not in FF. But hey, americans need more jobs, so ie will put them to work, and that's a good thing, right..gatcha! j/k/.
But we're geting a bit off the topic of the site...which is awsome. I just had to find a way to get my brower to be safe with this site and i did. No problems. No more redirects, i see everything, and with windows live i CAN install a spellchecker, just like FF. If it works don't fix it.
I tred firefox a couple times, and I had problems trying to configure the dam thing...it has so many plug-ins, 1/2 of them aren't even compatible with the latest version, it doesn't show all the web content because the filters and plug-ins don't support different things, such as i see my username in red with ie, but with ff it's just plain text. I paid 10k points for that custom name, and ff can't even display it.
I learned to hate that browser, and I have been using ie so long, it's simple to configure and i see the web the way it's supposed to be, with all updated sun java and flash player scripting programs. i have xp on another drive with ie7, and i have no problems. So why not use it?
It just boils down to user choice. I choose ie8, other people like firefox, others use google chrome, or opera. Whatever. As long as you're careful and know what you're doing, it's safe enough. I don't click on stupid links, go porno browsing and am pretty routine in my browsing habits.
Besides, ie8 on the rc was awesome. Much better than the final version. But I'm sure MS will update this to be as good as the rc version via updates. Remeber vista sucked big time until they fixed it with all the service packs and updates.

BoxingScene is the best Boxing website, by far. It's not because I've been posting here for years, it's WHY I've been posting here for years that I say that.
Dam...almost 6 years! How old is this site? When did it go online? Will you green k me? Lol. Don't red k me...:scared: J/k.
Yeah, i have been a member of quite a few forums, mostly computer related, and when i found this, i was like wow!. I have never seen such a feature rish site with so many options that BS has. The bank, the points system, the rep (green or red k) system, (which used to be very different), it's very customize-able, you get to meet people from all over the world, it has a chat room, but they shrunk it now and it's really stripped down from what it used to be.
I seen a couple other boxing sites but didn't like 'em much. Plus, this site allows for freedom of speech like I've never seen on a forum. i wasn't aware you could argue and really get into it with other people...lol.
i was so used to the pc forums, where you had to really mind your manners or get banned w/o warning. You're told in the TOS (terms of service) not to flame, troll, be a good boy and eat all your veggies....lol. Here, we're allowed to have at it. read the TOS here, it says they don't wanna be bothered all the time by petty squabbles, to settle your own sh1t.
The freedom of speech makes this place interesting, sometimes a bit nasty, sometimes a lot of fun. but at least it's freedom of speech. A rare thing in forums.
Yeah best boxing website out there...love it :You_Rock_

Yeah, this site is #1. I'm new and i love this site too

You can set up your page the way you want it, create a bet blog (i got one obviously), and other cool sh1t. The only thing it lacks is a spell checker. I can spell very well, but i tend to type to fast, and i have to go back and correct my typo's or look like a dumbazz...lol. Oh, well, you can't have everything.
My question to you is, why on earth are you using Internet Explorer anything?

I hear ya Mak...I was using win 7 rc build 7100, and i never had any problems. I got my win 7 pro disc in the mail on the 29th of Oct, installed it, I have nod32 security suite, and malwarebytes. By the time i got to installing the security crap, I saw nod32 stop 3 viruses and terminated the connection before i got it.
I was logged into this site. Then i had a couple times where my browser got hijacked, and all of a sudden ie8 shut down really fast, (i wish it would be that fast for me...lol.), and i saw a screen loading saying it's installing cyber security software.(a virus or trojan or hijacker.)
I closed it out before it got downloaded. I ran malewarebytes and it found it. It's called hijackthis.Display. I deleted it, and raised the security levels on ie8 and no more problems.
I got nervous cuz i seemed to be picking up all kinds of cookies and temporary files, i mean thousands...and i use ccleaner to get rid of crap like that, and driver sweeper for when i update video drivers. Danny and i talked about malwarebytes before, quite a while ago.
Seems the release candidate of win 7 ie8 was more secure than it is now. I bet it has something to do with MS having to accomodate the EU, by making their version w/o ie8, so they have a choice, They are always sueing MS...lol. So i think it might have "weakened" ie8 to a small degree somehow, cuz the one in the rc was a lot stronger, I hardly ever got any cookies and very few temp files from browsing, and never got a hijacker.
This is a popular website. Hackers will target popular websites. So we gotta be careful.
