Great story John. Those are some great pictures. I have never seen Bert Sugar without a cigar and a drink. I thought the card in whole was a joke. Why wasn't the Augustus fight a 10 round bout, the best one out of all the undercard bouts. Its funny how certain fighters hit their prime at different times. Calzaghe and Hopkins respectively didn't hit they're prime until into the 30's and 40's. And you can't say once you get older you lose your speed and output like Roy because Calzaghe hasn't and Glen Johnson gets better in every fight. I just find it interesting at what age and at what point of a career that a fighter is at his best.
Yeah thats whats makes boxing so great. You can never count someone out. Age can be looked at but never is a definitive factor. Thats why I hate when people say that person is to old to fight, he has no chance. The man who says that doesn't understand the sport or its history. This is why my favorite fighters are Hopkins,Toney, and Glen Johnson, these are men that don't let critics decide that they are too old and can't do it anymore. They defy the odds.
I am not saying its a conspiracy, hopefully just bad refereeing and doctoring. I actually like Khan as a fighter, as long as he keeps progressing defensively. I just feel for me, I have alot of questions about the process of stopping the fight when it was stopped. I just hate fights that leave me with more questions than answers.
Barrera isn't a bitch like Guerrero. He is a true fighter and would fight through anything. But it's not up to him to fight or not its up to the doctor and the referee. He could've begged out of the fight like Guerrero but thats not in him.
The reason it was not stopped because if they stopped it in the 2nd everyone including the Khan haters would be pretty ticked off since everyone was looking forward to it, and people would demand there money back because the undercards weren't looking to good for the brits.
Even without the cut I can't see him doing anything to Khan anyway looked like DLH - Pacman all over again
It was unfortunate, but wasn't planned and Khan made the best of the situation.
The crowd is not taken into account, nor should them asking for they're money back. Only the health of the fighter and his ability to continue to fight is at stake. He had the same ability to fight in the 1st round than in the 5th. And the other response was that Barrera wanted to continue. Of course he did and the only type of fighter who asks out of fights are quitters like Guerrero and Golota. Barrera fights on, but its not his decision, it is the referee and doctor's decision to think for the fighter and on behalf of the fighter.
I am not giving excuses for MAB and I do not think this fight does anything to his legacy. All I am saying is this fight should've been stopped earlier or not at all. Giving MAB the benefit of the doubt is one thing in rounds 1 and 2, but after seeing the cut can not being dealt with than the fight should of been stopped. I will say agaiin, I saw no difference in MAB from rounds 1-4 than in round 5. So either stop the fight earlier or not at all.
It just doesn't smell right. Khan's career was on the line and a win sets him up for a title shot and more money and stardom. And the fight is stopped at the one opportunity to get Khan his win. The cut was no different than the dozen other times it was looked at.
Barrera wanted to fight on because who wouldn't? especially since it is Barrera.
Okay I said 3 times that he has the choice to end the fight, which he does because they can clarify it was accidental and he cannot see making the fight dangerous.
I said he has the Choice to Appeal which he did, not have a choice outright to continue thats is the doctors decision.
Him appealing has an effect, if he did not appeal then that would give them the impression that he is not happy to continue, its just human nature that the ref would take into account the determination of the fighter, whether it is a right decision is another story.
The Doctor could of ended the fight but didn't this is a factor that was mentioned, (maybe being biased and wanting Khan to win, who knows)
This last statement you make is the basis of my question. Take the part of him appealing to continue or not out of it. And your right if he isn't adament about keeping on fighting than maybe it gets stopped earlier. But this had no effect in many other fights where fighters are begging to continue. Stopping the fight in the 5th when he had a dozen other oppurtunities after looking at the same cut to stop the fight isn't right. Stop the fight in rounds 1-4 and call it a no contest or let it go is what im saying. The cut is the same in those rounds as it was in the 5th.
I have fought many times and fought 5 rounds with a broken nose once. This is all besides the point, I am not saying Barrera is not a warrior and could or couldn't fight with the one eye badly hurt. Nor am I saying how you have fought after suffering punishment, which I could careless. What I am saying is that the fight should of been stopped in 2nd,3rd, or 4th round and not at the one oppurtunity to give Khan the extra W on his record. If the positions were changed in this fight and Khan was hurt badly you could be damn sure that the fight is stopped before it goes to the scorecards.
Barrera and Corrales are two of a long list of fighters that would opt to continue to fight under any circumstances. Barrera wanted to continue to fight and so did Corrales for the same reason, belief in his skills and heart to beat the other fighterin the ring. What does Barrera care to dissapoint the crowd, the fight wasn't in Mexico. And if begs out of the fight, a la Guerrero, he most likely gets a rematch and even more money. So your points are incorrect, and again I say it is not up to the fighter at that point to continue or not, it is the referee and doctor who have to look out for his health. A fighter is a fighter, not a doctor.
A fighter is always going to say he wants to continue, and its not his choice, its the doctor and the referee's decision. As I said before when Diego Coralles and Cassamoyer fought, Diego was still fighting back but had blood in his mouth and the fight was stopped even though Diego insisted on continuing. The doctor and referee saw the same thing in rounds 1-5 but stops the fight in round 5.
The fighter could say he wants to continue all he wants but that doesn't stop a referee or doctor from stopping the fight. I can remember the Diego Corrales-Cassamoyer fight where Diego begged to continue the fight. MAB wanted to continue but it should've been stopped earlier and in the 5th he looked the same he did in the previous rounds. I am not saying its rigged, but will this was a job of poor refereeing and poor doctoring, and a poorly timed stoppage. If you chose for the fight to go on in the previous rounds after the cut has shown to bleed continuously than you let it go on for the duration of the fight. If you feel like the cut is too much for the fighter to go on than you stop the fight, but the cut had the same effects and looked exactly the same in the 4 previous rounds.
For you to say a fighter would be the same fighter with one eye, you are an idiot. Adrenaline is one thing but only seeing out of one eye and then letting it last until an Amir Khan win is another. Amir Khan looked good but more questions arise now then were answered tonight. This fight should of been stopped earlier and declared a NC. Not let Amir Khan showcase his skills against a one-eyed fighter.
Let's make this interesting, I feel like this fight should've been stopped at the beginning of the 4th round and declared a No Decision. And that possibility should not of been taken into account by the referee or the doctor. What round should of this fight been stopped if it all?
Khan did look very quick tonight and unless getting knocked cold, he would of won easily. I just feel very strongly that the decision to stop the fight the fight in the 5th and not earlier was very poor. And if it was Khan instead of Barrera who was cut they would have stopped the fight, too much was on the line already for Khan and they could've done a rematch later if that was the case.
By no means am I saying Barrera doesn't lose this fight if it goes on. My question to you is this, If the cut wasn't that bad than why was it stopped?
and Second if it was bad enough for the fight to be stopped than, Why was it stopped in the 5th round and not in the 4 previous rounds as the cut was exactly the same?
I wonder when the fight will be now because hatton fight is nov 22 and i think the two previous weeks were planned fights too. Maybe last saturday in Nov. will be the day.
Yeah it should be a pretty good fight, its on tape delay on donkings site so it shouldn't have any errors during the telecast. Too bad its not live but I'm not going to complain because this fight wouldn't of been on anywhere otherwise. I like Alfaro but this guy he's fighting is no slouch from what I see from his record and had great sparring with Linares and Valero so you know he'll be able to take a pretty good punch from Alfaro.
Mundine is a good athlete who lacks the toughness and fortitude to be a champion. He tries to keep his name out there by saying absurd comments and I'm amazed he has any fans or a following.
I don't think it could get much worse than what Gomez had to go through, and thats with Cotto holding back a little bit. Mora might get hammered by
Vernon but it wont be a drawn out beating like Gomez-Cotto. Mora would not withstand a beating and Forbes is a smart enough fighter to not get a beating.
Mundine loses by KO tomorrow and all you Mundine nut huggers say he didn't prepare and is such a great talent. What will it take for you to know he is bum. His mom would call a bum, a bum would call a bum, some guy would give him chinese food on the street thinking he was a bum.
Prediction: 2 total noses broken, everyone within 5 rows of ring have blood splattered clothing, a great fight that we will see a sequel of no matter the outcome.
When Mundine beats a guy in the top 20 of his division I wont call him a bum anymore. Ali was onest of the greatest speakers of all time while this guy is a terrorist. Theres a thousand of Ali's rhymes that are legendary, Mundine's known for what? I honestly don't know. He has convinced people that he's a factor in a division. I don't know of a top 10 fighter that would lose to him.
Before the final round they are telling Bute to go after Andrade and finish him off. Take emotions out of your conering and tell him to do what it takes to win. Tell him to keep boxing and stay out of danger. But by telling him to finish him off, he used too much energy in the first half of the final round.
