The first 3 rounds were quite close but you could see Povetkin was shot to ****.
Round 4 Whyte lands a good shots and rocks Povetkin. He gets up, Whyte lands another, he get back up.
Round 5 Povetkin lands a sickening shot, Whyte doesn't get back up. Why does Whyte come out with more credit? Seems crazy to me.
We should be saluting a 41 year olds ability to take 2 big shots, get up and ice a man.
Khan boxed Canelo's head off. Think I had it 4-1 to Khan at time of the stoppage. That was over 4 years ago though, Canelo has improved a lot in his all-round game since then.
Give it another watch, it was alot closer and Canelo was taking over and won the round before the KO decisively. Khan noticeably slowed down after some body shots.
Sounds like a Fury fan who has no clue about anything. Jog on simpleton.
I dont really have a dog in all this, just hate fanboys and people overrating average boxers
They are rewriting a history after every fight. When Whyte beats sasha in a rematch, they will say Sasha should retire.
He should retire. Povetkin looked awful last night, has been I decline for years, stiff legs, terrible balance. Despite that he had enough to take Whytes best, work his body and throw an uppercut from the depths of Russia.
I wonder if DAZN made ROI yet? Anyone know?
in any case, it's not really problematic if a streaming network have multiple promoters. It just needs more transparency and coordination between promoters.
I highly doubt it. These sorts of companies run up huge debts and investors won't make money for a while. They have probably written off alot of debts to appease furthur rounds of funding.
Isn't that the kind of fighter Fury struggles with.
I think even Peter Fury may have admitted that. Dylans style is supposed to have caused Tyson all sorts of problems with the body shots etc in sparring. Tyson is far from unbeatable, John McDermott arguably did beat him and got robbed on the cards.
I think Tyson will find a way to beat Whyte and figure him out but it's far from the soft touch some fans will have us believe.
How many years are you going back there? Whyte is just a younger Chisora. Fury beats him quite convincingly imo.
lol sorry mate all of this is on google. Whyte lied and never sent a $5M offer to Ruiz as confirmed by Hearn. The fact that Whyte tried to cherry-pick another one of AJs leftovers coming off a loss shows the guy has no character. Whyte also avoided plenty of opportunities to fight wilder and ortiz. I know you’re from the Uk so you have to lie for Whytes honor but the guy is a bum just got iced by a 40 year old. Give it up Whyte was never that good
They won't give up. In the UK general fans are brainwashed and told what to think in terms of boxing by sky and Matchroom. They have made it into a sort of football team where the support is very tribal. Objective thinking is impossible for these lot.
This is what seperates real fighters from quitters. Fighters don't give up when they lose. Whyte has been beating top-10 opposition every fight. He is top-5. Povetkin was ranked 6 before this fight. Why the hell would Whyte give up? He could lose again against Povetkin and still become a champ in the future.
Lucky you aren't a boxer. You would give up after your first loss.
Top 10? Who? Browne? Chisora? Parker might just be a top 10 fighter? Oscar Rivas?!?! No chance.
To be fair, Whyte might be overrated. He's never had the opportunity to fight for a title despite being in line for a long time. And don't give me the bs about eliminators. He's in line - he's earned that.
At the same time I can understand why a Fury, Wilder, Joshua aren't going to volunteer to line up against him. He's about as dangerous as anyone in the division without the appeal to match the risk.
Basically, he's Ortiz with some credible wins on his resume.
Until someone takes him on, we won't know if he's close or not. But he's done all he can up to that point.
He's nothing like Ortiz.
You claim the division is limited if so how do you overate someone comparing them to what you think is a limited group ? How does that work ? For someone to be overated you would need multiple guys who stand out in comparison not group him in with most heavies .
As previously said, he is seen as some sort of destructive monster who nobody dares to fight. It's just not true. He is amongst the rest. If you look at Whyte he is a very basic boxer with tremendous heart.
Yes because - facts. Just go to The Ring Heavweight rankings.
Let's just agree that Whyte's opponents are miles above Fury's and Wilders in general. And they are champions 5 years ahead of him in their careers. That's the problem - people hold Whyte to the highest standards and no one else. Whyte isn't even a champion
Ok I'll bite,
Firstoff Whyte v Joshua was British level fight when both were still pretty green.
Rivas is about as much of a top 10 as Otto Wallin. Don't rate either fighter.
Right so Fury beat Wlad and Wilder who would beat anybody on Whytes CV.
Whyte went life and death with an older war torn Derek Chisora.
Fury schooled him Twice.
So really Whyte has Joseph Parker who is just another run of the mill top 5-20 heavyweight like the rest of them, they can all pretty much beat each other. Against Parker he needed a home town ref to help and was seconds away from been out of there.
No way is Whytes resume better than Furys.
Whyte just isn't all that good, he is extremely over hyped. He is decent but that's as far as it goes. He is a Chisora level fighter.
So you choice for PED user of the year was the guy that was cleared...lol
He failed a test though but because it was only trace amounts they let him off. Which begs the question, why even fail him in the first place?
Crude compared to Fury’s boxing level perhaps, but Whyte arguably has some of the best body punching and if not the best left hook in the division, which is a legit one hitter quitter.
Fury is definitely levels above Whyte boxing ability wise, but this is HW boxing and anyone can go. I don’t think Fury is scared - he just doesn’t want to take any risk ahead of such a big fight with AJ. Just look at his fights since coming back, and see how he plays incredibly safe with his opponents before rolling the dice only when the stakes are sufficiently high.
I can understand Fury and sadly that’s the way boxing is atm, but unfortunately for him he’s not in a position to refuse Whyte unless he wants to lose the belt.
The best left hook? When he lands it looks ok but half the time he is off balance and wild with it. Dillian Whyte is ridiculously overrated.
This unfortunately is very true. Not all UK fans are like that however, I and other UK fans refer to these people as a part of the Matchroom FC cult.
They also look this this.

I'm from the UK myself and it gets frustrating dealing with them. All they do is say the same lines they get repeated over and over to them by sky and Matchroom.

Top 10? Who? Browne? Chisora? Parker might just be a top 10 fighter? Oscar Rivas?!?! No chance. Wach?
Okay then, give me a HW with a better left hook then? His pure knockouts of Browne and the durable Chisora were picture perfect, as was his hard knockdown of Parker who had never been dropped before. Go watch them, because it feels doubtful you’re speaking from memory.
Besides, Wilder is even more off balance and wild with his punches - doesn’t stop him from having the best right hand does it?
As for Whyte being ridiculously overrated..by who? 95% of people on this forum are calling him a bum - if anything I’d say he’s probably underrated.
The man he is facing has a far better left hook.
Come on, Browne was a fat mess and it took 23 rounds and a heavily gassed Chisora to land that punch. It was a shuddering shot though!
Whyte is very overrated, he is a PPV fighter in the UK for some reason and is seen as some sort of KO artist who will face anybody, neither are true.
He is a decent Chisora level fighter. Nothing wrong with that at all.
He never really wanted the title shot, he was happy collecting those Sky PPV pay cheques fighting against C level opposition like Chisora and Rivas. Whilst using the whole “I’m owed a title shot” as the selling point.
One of the most fraudulent boxers in recent memory. Always amazes me how many people get sucked in.
I think he wanted one but more of a big cash out fight. Collect the cheques and get that big one. This is boxing business 101 and people fell for it.
Tell that to Ring Magazine, who have Whyte ranked no3 after
People love to hate on Whyte on this forum, probably because he's one of Hearn's fighters. The fact is though, there aren't many better heavyweights out there right now.
That's true there aren't many better but that doesn't make him a good boxer. Whyte is extremely limited like most heavies.
Current top-10 fighters (pre Povetkin fight) fought
AJ - Whyte (3), Povetkin (7), Ruiz (6), Parker(8) = 4
Whyte : Rivas (10), Parker (8), AJ(2) , Povetkin (7) = 4 top-10 fighters
Wilder has fought Fury (1) and Ortiz(5) = 2 top-10 fighters
Fury has fought Wilder (4). = 1 top-20 fighter in 5 years. Coincidentally unbeaten.
I could pull that to pieces but what's the point? You will never agree.
Tell me what your top-10 is then? Dont forget you are putting Whyte out there at 12 or 13 with Chisora. So looking forward to you finding all these great fighters beating better opponents than Whyte is!
Whyte's recent resume is miles better than Fury's. Wallin and Shwarz weren't even in the top-20 when he fought them. Schwarz was *outside* the top-50 I think at the time. Fury's 3rd best win is Chisora! Fury has only fought one top-10 guy in almost 5 years - admittedly a good one but still who did Wilder ever beat? No one better than Whyte has
You miss the point, I say Whyte is massivly overrated. He is just amongst the rest who can all beat each other. His resume isn't as good as Furys but it is a decent one for the rest. If you haven't clicked yet, I don't rate the heavyweight division. People are mistaking hype for skill.
