I’m starting to believe that it isn’t just Oscar and Canelo who are on the outs w/t DAZN. Just saw an interview with Hearn on IFL TV where he is asked about the Garcia vs Campbell fight, it appears though he isn’t happy w/t the arrangement as he admitted that he wanted the fight in the U.K. but Golden Boy wouldn’t bulge and that it will be a Golden Boy promoted card with no other Matchroom USA fighters on the undercard. Yikes, have a feeling Skipper flexed on Hearn and told him to take the deal Golden Boy was offering Campbell or else. Guessing, DAZN owner Les Blatvanik is tired of Eddie’s endless spending for mediocre talent that isn’t obtaining any subscriptions for the platform. I also noticed in the interview w/t Hearn was that when Canelo was brought up. Hearn said that even though their both under the same platform in the US he has no clue what’s going on w/t Canelo next fight, LOL. Sounds like Eddie being kept at arms length nowadays by DAZN management team. Starting to look like the beginning to an end for both Hearn and DAZN in the US.
Yeah theyve got one hell of an end of year schedule off the back of no college football, apparently
Lomachenko vs Lopez
Berchelt vs Valdez
Taylor vs Ramirez
Crawford vs Brook
Inoue vs Moloney
Fury vs Wilder
May have forgotten something.
I wonder if DAZN may pick up some international TV rights. UK doesnt get Top Rank or PBC cards at the moment.
Christ, that is a great year end lineup. And I wouldn’t put it past bob to get the Winner of the WBO eliminator tonight to face Beterbiev for the vacant WBO strap. Bob has that kind of pull.
So tell me the issue? Is it that Americans don't know how to use their phone?
Because, as stated, they've had good content, good fighters.
You've got to come up with some slightly better logic than 'boxing doesn't work on an app'. Boxing is MORE available via an app and LESS expensive than PPV.
A lot of North America is rural. I personally moved into the middle of nowhere four years ago, completely by choice. But it’s still 80km in all directions to a city. A lot of people in my small town have complete trash internet. And I know smaller towns in Canada and USA that dont even have high speed internet.
That said, I have DAZN. It’s love hate because they do have some good fights, but I still hate the commentators, the freezing and the fact that they prop YouTube guys over real boxers/make big time boxers wait on UFC...**** like that is clown shoes.
And I have DAZN on my PS4. If I didn’t have a gaming system I wouldn’t have it. I’d never watch any sport on a small ass phone screen lol.
Let me ask you a question.
Why is dazn failing in america since the content and fighters are so great? Please let me know
Like you said. Its cheaper than ppv and they still cant get american subscribers. Why is this?
Could be that Americans don't watch boxing? I mean ESPN and Fox just lost money on the biggest fight in years?
Or maybe it's not failing? Or at least wasn't prior to COVID?
Startups don't necessarily need to make a profit. In fact they typically don't make a profit for years. What they need to do is grow, which DAZN is doing.
DAZN, right now, is in the process of launching with boxing in more countries across the world. I've got the Beta in Australia, where boxing barely registers. That's still more growth though, and all off their initial investment. The plan had been to launch with a Canelo fight prior to COVID.
Canelo and Joshua are global brands. Maybe it wasn't just about the US?

I mean if DAZN stateside is picking up international cards, they really won't do much minus maybe an AJ fight.
Crawford vs Brook though can be PPV in the UK and then put on ESPN+ stateside. That may be the way to go there.
No college football could mean more money for TR as ESPN will need more live sporting events in the fall/winter. Putting Crawford vs Brook in the UK as a PPV actually makes some sense.

Ive seen something that ESPN are losing a million+ viewers per quarter, and they aint got football. They aint got the money for a good opponent for Crawford. Papering over cracks, and tryingnot to look bad.

that doesnt suprise me.....although college football wouldnt have started yet.....college likely not to happen but the NFL will...they have baseball and basketball playoffs...although watching the basketball playoffs just isnt the same in that bubble arena where theres really no homecourt advantage...i can see why ratings for that are down
that pac/mikey card isnt a bad one at all...with a very good main event...problem i see is that card i think would be hard to pull off without a gate...without a crowd
whats with andrade being the 3rd fight on a card? he should be headlining...in good fights....and hes going to want to be paid well...like he is headlining....
brook vs crawford would have been a good fight 6 years ago when brook was 28...even a heck of a fight....him fighting brook now is pointless and i dont think theres much interest in it....if crawford were serious hed be clamoring for a porter fight and wipe the floor with him and tell spences hes waiting....but bud isnt really about that....hes happy taking easier fights and waiting for a big one....him fighting brook now is weak....

Pre co-vid Hearns Saudi card was going to be Pacquiao vs Mikey, Jojo vs Farmer 2, Andrade vs Williams. I assume thats still the plan. Sean Gibbons only recently, according to his twitter follows, followed some Saudi group.
IFL interview a couple of days ago Hearn said hed been speaking to Carl Moretti for Crawford vs Brook, and was drumming up international TV rights to get the fight together

I thought you were referring to his US cards in your prior post?
Supposedly Jacobs is rumored to return late November. I still wonder if Hearn sticks Andrade on the UC?
So for his US cards he will have the GGG and Haney fights, Jacobs vs Rosada and then in Mexico potentially both Estrada and Chocolatito.
Then GBP will have hopefully Canelo, Garcia vs Campbell, possibly Jojo vs Farmer II and Linares vs Fortuna?
Yeah I was, its hard to work out if a mexican card would be considered one of his US dates, or if he'll go international with GGG.
Munguia will have a GBP date, apparently Tureano Johnson. I think Matchroom have promotional rights to Jojo/Farmer 2, tinkling in my balls has Pacquiao/Mikey in December with Jojo/Farmer chief support, location anywhere.
Its hard to work out whilst hes keeping quiet. Could be the Mexico card and GGG but they could end up being international cards, theres going to be a big push now on DAZN internationally. Haney is first saturday in October.

The American boxing establishment closed ranks on DAZN and Hearn and its to boxing detriment.
They want to keep the days of 100 bucks for Canelo vs B level opponents twice a year
It's sad but you could see it coming, DAZN came in with an exciting potential change up and the US didn't want to know.
UFC is going to continue growing and boxing will be a fringe sport in 10 years time.
Eddie Hearn has no idea how the American market works and overspent on fighters like Tevin Farmer. His US cards sucked.
Good riddance, I say.
DAZN USA should have given Golden Boy Promotions the reigns and the big pocketbook instead. Oscar knows how to build up talent and attract viewership.

that boxing app mess was never going to work period
Have you seen whats been happening to ESPN subscriptions and Showtimes Nielsen numbers? Theres absolutely no doubt that apps are the future

oh americans know how to use their phones...theyre glued to the and even poor americans are willing to spend 1.2k on one when they dont own any property or really much of anything
my gf is obssessed with tik tok(probably a red flag but other than that she is pretty awesome...and is also a 3-8th grade teacher and tries to keep in touch with that age group)....
its probably more like they dont know anything about DAZN.....espn, and even showtime to a lesser degree, is synonymous with american sports.....showtime has been in the boxing game for many years even though its on in less homes than espn...nobody knows what DAZN is.....and even more boxing is not as popular in america as it is in the UK or other countries.....i hate the cliche but its now a niche sport in the US.....yet somehow boxing needs the US to survive....they still do the best gates...they can still sell a ppv if the guys and the fights are marketed and pumped up the right way....all the european fighters long to make it over here....and its probably 10x less popular than it was 20 years ago...and maybe 20x less popular than it was 30 years ago
theres too much available...ala carte tv where you can pay by the app...too much info available...too much streaming and availabilty...people in the US are busy keeping up with each other...having kids and paying a mortgage on a house they can barely afford while trying to take their kids to dance lessons/lacrosse practice.....the US just doesnt care about boxing that much...
yet somehow i will still hear extreme casuals talking about the upcoming wilder fight...or ggg..or canelo......so its still there and hanging around....its just cant seem to truly break through again
This aint about me. The people have spoke.
Nobody bought dazn. They have all nsb favorite fighters.
GGG and Joshua the greatest heavyweight and middleweight of all time let boxingscene tell it. And dont forget the mexican legend- canelo.
And nobody gave a damn in america. And most of us said it in the beginning that dazn would fail.
Canelo vs kovalev and canelo vs Jacobs werent showed at not 1 bar in my city. Where as canelo vs ggg, chavez jr, khan, and every other canelo ppv were.
Nobody had the ****ing app
