Wow it's so funny the Charlo brothers started talking crap once again to stay relevant but in reality they duck every opponent with a pulse!
The ref should have warned him for the mouth guard and I'm not sure what was going on with the beltline, though I suppose I could give the ref the benefit of the doubt that he would have done the same for Beterbiev.
As far as the scoreguards go, it sounded like Beterbiev's own corner were concerned they might be behind. Your issues with the commentary seems to reveal your own bias. From what I heard, they sounded excited about what was going on and impartial enough. Obviously Yarde has the home interest.
In terms of British boxing being on the downturn, I'm not clear which aspect of British boxing you are talking about. I thought it was an entertaining contest before a big, energised crowd in a quality venue and I think it will have served to boost the profile of both fighters amongst casual sports fans.
Hi Monty,
Exactly my point. If the main ref is obviously leaning towards 1 of the fighters this is a very dangerous precedent considering the brutality of the sport. When Yarde first spat his mouthpiece I have no problem with referee letting him off the hook to take a quick breather but the second time Yarde should've been warned. Intentional spitting of the mouthpiece can be sanctioned with point deduction if done on purpose.
Nothing wrong with commentators supporting their countryman but the amount of sheer BS pre-fight and during the fight was insufferable. Crowd in the UK and atmosphere was amazing - there's no doubt about that and both boxers only gained from that.
Regarding downturn of British boxing:
Please note that I'm note biased toward any of the fighters or the countries they represent. In fact I've used to enjoy a lot of British boxing events and I have a long list of favorite UK boxers. It's just that you are always left with a bad feeling after some events. Whether it's promoter manipulation, favoritism from the referee, horrific scorecards results, when you see someone robbed like in the fight of Campbell Hatton vs Sonny Martinez . Stuff like this in boxing should not exist in Britain or elsewhere.
I'm pretty excited about this one! :boxing:
I'm going to have to go with big Joe on this one. I can bet that he'll be working the body early as Zhang gasses in the later rounds and eventually folds. Joe has been waiting for his moment and I think he beats almost any heavyweight in top 10 and it's a pity that everyone discredit him because he is very nice bloke. It's a shame people are mocking him of being slow or for having sloppy defense, etc. This guy always shows up and doesn't disappoint.
Below are some pointers for the non believers:
1) He destroyed Daniel Dubois(19-1) only with jabs and the guy is a fucking monster!
2) Joseph Parker threw the kitchen sink at Joyce and he go obliterated as well. Just look at the post-fight press conference and Parker's face. Even AJ couldn't KO Parker!
3) He mauled the tuff man Carlos Takam(39-7)!
4) Go and watch his fights against Ustinov(36-6), Kiladze(27-6) or Christian Hammer(27-10) - total domination. These are not some small guys or taxi drivers, these are big heavyweights with a lot of ring experience in both sparring and fighting! Whoever states the opposite hasn't been punched in the face once in his life.
5) Joyce is a silver & bronze Olympic medalist. Gold at EU level and WSB contender.
6) He has one of the best trainers in the sport - Ismael Salas who trained Rigondeaux, Gamboa, David Haye..
In my view he has one of the best resumes in the current heavyweight division and I'm baffled as to why he doesn't get the recognition from the casuals and boxing fans...
Watched the whole thing on live stream...respect to both fighters but I feel sorry for all fans which paid to be ringside. zZzzZ
P.S. Joyce comments regarding Andy Ruiz refusing to spar with him seem like a total PR stunt now. Backfire!
Plant has this negative vibe around him. He even managed to get under Canelo's skin. Maybe he's a weasel behind the scenes and acting humble in front of the camera - something like AJ. David really sounds & looks like a humble guy but guessing Caleb struck a nerve.
If this takes place in Montreal and you remove british pre-fight hype, media pressure and BS, hometown referees, etc. A lot of people will debate about Callum's reach and so on, but I see Beterbiev ending this with a body shot within 6. If small Canelo can dismantle Smith - Beterbiev will totally mop the floor with him!
IDK how you guys say that he's weight drained? David is shredded considering how he looked before and also he looks 100% disciplined. After the weigh in he will probably add 3-4 kilograms. David will win either win by a K.O. or on points. Of course I'm not a Caleb hater - he also has some chances but they are pretty slim.
Props to Eleider, I think he's a great boxer but he's talking complete rubbish. He says that he was looking for the knockout and comming forward. In reality he didn't have a game plan at all and was very passive, just waiting for an opening and when he couldn't land, he didn't have a plan B. Got schooled big time imo!
Son of God Andre Ward rob the soul of Sergey Kovelev period.
More like robbed him of his titles in the first fight which broke his confidence - Same as Canelo vs GGG 1, when you dedicate your life to the sport and some crooked Las Vegas guys piss on your whole career thats what happens... What do you expect? Boxing is a very rough sport and we as human beungs have physical/mental boundaries.
Have you ever entered the ring once in your life?
Talking about "souls" and s**t - keyboard warrior....
Forget the past,we live in the present. Klitschko shouldn't take this as a comeback fight and anyone stating the oposite is not thinking straight. Vlad is a legend and I think he should be up against Manuel Charr, Luis Ortiz or Chisora at least for his 1st comeback. Aftewards just follow the money :)
I watched the fight live last night and just rewatched the fight without sound! The referee was horrendous, he had to warn or deduct points from both men. Also, AJ was so arrogant hitting after the bell or in moment of separation, leaning & choking, the REF let the hometown golden goose get away with it. Can't see him beating the likes of Wilder, Fury, Joyce.
Absolutely agree with JakeTheBoxer! This would be a crap fest. Bakole's most notable wins are against Yoka, Kevin Johnson and a very controversial with against Sergey Kuzmin! On the other hand, if Wilder wants to stay relevant, he should step up his game like the young lions like Gervonta / Garcia.
I watched the fight last night live and had terrible impressions for UK being a host to such boxing event. E.G. Yarde was spitting his mouth piece, no action from the ref. Afterwards they gave time to Yarde to recover, in one of the rounds referee stopped the fight to lift Yarde's beltline/pants. The worst part was not the horibble scorecards but the biased live commentators from BT Sport - they are such weasels. I have a feeling that british boxing is on the downturn for several years now, it's no longer a good place for the sport of boxing and it will get even worse.
I think Peter Fury is trying to undermine AJ's next oponent in Usyk and in the same time describe AJ as cherry picker. (Fury looked out of shape recently)
The reality is Usyk used to fight in Heavies in the Olympics. He's fought Joe Joyce and has defeated many former Champions in the world of Boxing.
He also sparred with Vladimir and the rumors say, he made him look average.
It's a 50/50 fight and I see it ending in a draw or points victory for one of the boxers.
A lot of people saying that Martin will win - this is based on what facts? This guy is terrible for boxing - he's just interested in money and doesn't come to fight.
Have you seen Adam Kownacki against Arthur Szpilka, he was devastating as in all of his previous bouts.
Adam by KO in three or four rounds :boxing:
Every fighter has his strengths and weaknesses I can bet 100% for Beterbiev all day long. Arthur is world class level fighter and a legend in the sport while Smith is a very good domestic name with a good record and he's faced some decent opposition. Agree that age or injuries might be the factor but highly unlikely Arthur loses.
This is the worst tactic for AJ against Usyk in my opinion. I'm not saying that AJ shouldn't impose his weight advantages but it's easier said than done when you have a constantly moving target like Usyk that counters and times his shots perfectly. :boxing: AJ has to find the balance between roughing him up, clinching, leaning and sneaking shots hoping he could hurt him and eventually going 12 rounds to win on points in his back yard. AJ is a phenomenal athlete but we've seen that he's gun shy and gasses way too quickly in previous bouts as well. AJ was holding for dear life in the 12th round, this means a "blow out cruiserweight" as many qualified Usyk, can definitely hurt and KO Joshua and he knows it. I think people are really taking for granted Usyk skills and only focus on AJ physicality and perfect muscular body stating that it was just a bad day at the office! Let's compare for example Tyson Fury, he's not this muscular guy but he comes in with conditioning that's out of this world and sings a song at the end. :nana: It would be best if AJ gets 1-2 more fights before he's back fighting Usyk or any of the top guys!
Perhaps Benevidez wasn't acting. Perhaps in reality, he is a douche. Regardless, Plant seems to always bring out the worst in his foes during the hype period and build-up to a fight. For this one, mission complete. BOTH Benevidez and Plant are balls-to-the-wall top-flight 168lb talent. I expect a great fight. Hopefully this time, Benevidez keeps his pants up and there are no more, less-than-professional mitigating factors affecting his commision (should he earn one), before, after or on the scale.
Yeah man, I already posted a comment about this. It's pretty odd to see Benavidez acting like this. Maybe Plant is just a sneaky bastard behind the scenes... I remember how he triggered was Canelo.
The funny thing is that nobody called out Beterbiev or Bivol couple of years back and now everyone are hopping the Beterbiev train. Best wait for him to turn 50 to be sure and take credit for the W.
