If Ngoudjo only landed 10 meaningful punches how many did Maliganggi land exactly? One? Two maybe?
Further, Ngoudjo hurt Malignaggi three times. Malignaggi never even came close to hurting Ngoudjo once. All his punches were thrown for form. I had it 117-112 for Ngoudjo.
I scored this a draw, with Ngoudjo getting slightly the better of the first half of the fight, Malignaggi just barely doing enough to tilt it back to even terms in the later rounds. I wasn't massively impressed by either guy on the night.
If forced to choose a winner, I'd give it to Herman by dint of that dominant 7th.
Malignaggi clearly lost rounds 11 and 12. I really don't see the draw or the close fight. I know that Ngoudjo didn't dominate but I don't see how he was not the obvious winner of 8 rounds.
Ngoudjo clearly won 8 out of the 12 rounds, arguably 9. He was the aggressor throughout the fight, cutting the ring effectively, pressing the pace, while Malignaggi was running in circles and holding constantly. In fact, Malignaggi's holding was so egregious that one or two points could have been deducted from his scorecard. He didn't have much of a choice though, holding was the only way for him not to be knocked out by a superior and much stronger figher.
How all three judges could have all given rounds 11 and 12 to Malignaggi is beyond me. And three judges from the Tri-State area in a championship match involving a boxer from New York, that's a joke !
This is one of the biggest roberries I have ever seen. That a judge gave 117-111 to a boxer who ducked, ran away, held and threw punches for form without hitting his opponent solidly even once, is preposterous.
