I guess she can find better fights in MMA than boxing. More money right now in Womens MMA and shes already 31 so this is the perfect time. I'm very saddened to find out about this. There's no question that Holm should do what her heart tells her. But to the extent that finances played a role in her decision, I am very sad for the sport that we love. What does it say about our sport, and about us fans, when women's MMA, a relative newcomer, can pay her more than much-older-and-more-established women's boxing does? After all, the same sentiment that many people have against women in boxing surely also exists against women in mixed martial arts. Errrrm, what it says is: "We’re optimistic that a decision on boxing for LA 2028 will be made by the IOC in early 2025." This would seem to mean that a decision has not yet been made on the inclusion of Olympic boxing at the next Olympic Games, ergo Olympic boxing's future is most definitely in question. This is not about the future of boxing per se. It's about boxing in the Olympics, and even that is sensationalized. There's a need for a new administrative body, and they're working on it. I am surprised with the lack of sympathy expressed here. Yes, Holyfield obviously didn't manage his finances in the way that he could have. Yes, he is facing the consequences of those decisions. But he is human, like the rest of us. Who among is free of vice? Who among us was wise when we were young? When we get in trouble, big or small, how many among us try to make things right, like he has been trying to do? Who among us has never tried to shirk our responsibilities? Who among us is perfect? When we're in need of help, and no one is around to provide it, it's hard-and humiliating-enough. But to be told, in different ways, that we "deserve" it, that we "should have known better", and then left to suffer, is the extra twist of the knife that we can all do without. Try to help. Or don't. But I find it sad when people dismiss him and his situation. There are many, many, many more parents who don't even pretend to care about their children.

Don't mean to sound harsh, but almost everyone would disagree with you. Not continuing because your corner stops the fight is just that. Not continuing because the fighter wants to stop the fight is what most would consider quitting. We hold fighters who keep fighting even in the face of almost certain defeat (and without thinking of their long-term health) in high regard. But there's nothing wrong with a fighter (or his corner) who decides that he simply shouldn't continue to get hurt anymore.

I don't know if it's just me. While I can understand how "entertaining" the fight was, I was not very impressed by Mbilli's abilities, in no small part because of the commentators' excessive cheerleading. (I can bear Tessitore, but not Bradley.) Mbilli just rolled over someone meant to be rolled over. One can only hope that he faces someone who can do more than stand still and take punches. (Much respect to Murdock for stepping in the ring and being a man. Little respect to the matchmakers.)
