Two-time world title challenger Glenn Donaire will fight Edgar Jimenez in a 12-rounder on Friday, March 23, according to an interview with Philippine News’ Truth Esguerra.
According to Donaire, the bout will televised on Telemundo, but that has not been confirmed as of yet. The location is to be determined, but if Donaire's fight is indeed booked for Telemundo, it would land at the Auditorio Plaza Condesa in Mexico City.
“Right now I can’t make a mistake,” said Donaire (18-4-1, 10 KOs). “I have to win all my fights and there are no more excuses. Today I sparred 12 rounds, and I still have two months to go.”
“He looks good,” his father and trainer, Nonito Sr., said. “He spars bigger guys, and he’s in shape.”
Donaire, a resident of San Leandro, Calif., by way of General Santos City, Philippines, returned from a three-year hiatus to post a victory in his first fight back, a fifth-round stoppage of former strawweight titlist Alex “Nene” Sanchez in December for the interim WBC Latino flyweight title.
Jimenez (15-5-1, 11 KOs), the reigning Mexican flyweight champ out of Mexico City, took a wide decision over Filipino Juanito Rubillar in his last outing in September.
