I dont think you can train someone to beat Floyd, I think you'd have to construct a fighter. It would have to be someone stronger than him, with still a high level of skill, a reach advantage and be a lefty. Someone built like Paul Williams but with way more power in their punches and with better boxing skills. That would be someone I could see beating FLoyd. The thing is, Floyd doesn't get hit often or very cleanly, so it would have to be someone who could hurt Floyd while only hitting him a little bit.
Its hard to imagine training someone to be able to outbox him.
oH, and even with all of those things, he'd have to have great stamina, because Floyd wears down stronger boxers and dominates them in the later rounds, and he'd have to be smart, Floyd is probably the smartest boxer around right now.
bottom line is this, Cotto has fought 2 big names, one was over the hill (mosely) and one has lost all of his championship fights (Judah). If Cotto wins his next fight, which will be tough no matter who he fights (DLH, P.Williams, Cintron, Clottey) then there will be a huge financial incentive for FLoyd to fight him. The money is there now, but another big win for Cotto this year will set it up better. Marketing, baby. I want to see the Floyd-Cotto fight, COtto's just gotta keep winning.
That's some BS and this shit is hurting boxing.
Malignaggi is the more marketable guy which is why they gave it to him.
Such bullshit. Makes me sick to my stomach.
I have to agree with this. I am not saying he definitely lost, but when you have a judge scoring the fight 117-111, its just completely bogus. THey wanted paulie to win because he is the cash cow.
Paulie is a pretty good fighter, but he doesn't hit with enough power, and he gets hit too much, his d is suspect. But hes quick and a good counter puncher and has a good jab. He keeps his left too low, and his right is down by his waist. I do not understand why so many boxers box this way nowadays.
It was obvious early, even as Paulie was popping that jab consistantly, that he was in with a much stronger fighter. He never hurt or cut the guy.
The same thing that happened tonight, is more or less similar to what happened in the Cotto Corley fight. Certain fighters are groomed for big fights down the line and when they hit bumps here and there, the judges or refs help them along.
I wouldn't lose respect for him either way. Pac man is a bigger fight, he makes more money fighting him than he does Cotto, so it would make sense for him to the bigger money fight, although I would prefer to see him fight Cotto.
He may have some hesitation about fighting welterweights because those guys are naturally bigger guys than he is. If he walks around at 149 and is fighting Cotto, Williams, or Margarito, who presumably walk around at least a cool 15 to 25 pounds more, I think that would be something to be concerned about. Particularly for a guy who is on his way out of the sport, who has accomplished alot, and who has had a history of hand problems. He'd need to really use those hands against bigger guys and punch hard! I'd be concerned about the fact that these guys are gonna be bigger stronger guys than me, though none of them are more skilled than he is. Paul Williams is the main one I'd be concerned about, hes 6+ feet, has 12" longer reacher and is overall a much larger and stronger guy.
