You can blame "the system" for failing Floyd and many others out there for not getting the proper education skills that all kids deserve. Or you can blame his parents, whatever. Fair enough.
However, a big problem with this country is people deflecting the blame of their problems onto the government and their parents and everyone but themselves.
The fact of the matter is, Floyd is damn near 40-years-old. Once you reach a certain age, you should want to better yourself intellectually. And someone with Floyd's money and stature, it's HIS own fault if he never took the initiative to learn how to read better and improve his education as a whole. He's had all the time and opportunities in the World to do so, but HE choose not to.
And while I do think it's cruel to make fun of him for it, it does send out a good message to these young guys out there who dream of being a superstar athlete or rapper or something like that. If you can't read, it will come back and bite you in the ass eventually, and people will take you less seriously because of it. It doesn't matter how much money or success you have, not many will respect you if can't read. And these guys can harp on about how they don't care about "respect" or "what people think of them" but we all know that's horse****. Floyd has never taken criticism well, so you know this is eating at him. And it would eat at most people.
Now, with all that said... with this coming out so close to the fight, I am interested in seeing how Floyd responds. Will it motivate him in training, or will it throw him off his game? So that will be interesting.
Also, I guarantee the buy rate for Mayweather/Maidana has jumped up big time because of all this. :lol1: No one gave a **** about this rematch, but who doesn't want to see Floyd fight now, no matter who his opponent is? Everybody's going to want to see how he responds to all this, if it impacts his performance, etc. Not to mention if Maidana takes a couple of shots at him about it at a presser or something like that; it'll only fuel people's interests.
The buy rate for this fight has nothing to do with wether or not Floyd's dumb ass can read or not. The buy rate for this fight will be increased because Maidana beat his ass up last fight. And people believe in Maidana. Not Floyd. People just wanna see Floyd lose. The last fight was a flip in ppv numbers and after hearing and seeing recaps of fights more people will tune in for the rematch. Maidana did that. Saying people will watch this fight because Floyd can't read is retarded and takes away from what Maidana did in the ring.
Nah, Maidana gassed by the 5th Round of that fight, and the rest was your typical Mayweather point snoozefest, which he rightfully won. I expect no different in the rematch. And the fight's gotten zero hype to this point... no one has cared. People have been more into Floyd's antics with TI than this fight. People have been more interested about who Floyd will fight next May than this fight against Maidana.
However, this whole reading debacle has put Mayweather in the headlines, and will keep him there until the fight, thus improving what I guarantee would have been another disappointing buy rate.
I'm not a fan of Mayweather but I found this cruel and unfunny.
Floyd as a grown man though should have improved his reading ability long ago. The people around him should have been drilling it in his head if they knew about it, but as a man Floyd should have wanted to better himself by improving his reading skills as soon as he started becoming a star and role model. It's a shame and very telling of his priorities that he continually brushed it off as no big deal, even when he's taken a year off and also spent months in jail (where it was the perfect opportunity for him to improve his education).
Im sorry im legitmately curious as to why you think this. How is it his parents or society's fault that he himself chose to drop out of highschool?
Well, a kid not being guided properly... it's not that kid's fault if he starts to head down the wrong path.
My point was though, that excuse can only last for so long. Once you reach a certain age, you have to start taking responsibility for your actions and the priorities you set for yourself, especially someone who's as well off as Mayweather is. There's absolutely no excuse for him not to have better himself as a man by improving his education, setting a good example for his kids and the thousands of others who look up to him.
Nobody is turning down fights with either of those two.
This is true, but unlike some fighters (Mosley, for example), at least you know JMM is going to show up to fight. He's not in it just for the money... he wants to win at all cost as well.
What Mayweather pulled tonight was unsportsmanlike, but it wasn't cheating.
Disappointing fight overall, but at least we got an entertaining finish that won't be forgotten any time soon.
Floyd is the draw he is because he's been undefeated for 16 years, is American, and because people want to see him get his ass beat. It's as simple as that.
Enjoy watching poor ass fighters working their asses off their whole lives only for it to be taken from some old ass fat slob who robbed that poor ass fighter from making a living and becoming a world champion. Great sport you have there.
MMA has the same problem, man. And at least they get paid decent money in boxing, whereas in MMA a dude headlined a pay-per-view a week ago and was paid $20,000 to show and $20,000 to win. Main event guy paid that... just let that sink in for a moment.
But yeah... all combat sports have their problems with judges. It's apart of the game, unfortunately.
Lara was definitely robbed, though, but at least he was still able to show he's a force to be reckoned with at Jr. Middleweight. I just hope this decision doesn't affect his motivation or anything like that, and only makes him hungrier.
