Love this attitude from Zayas!! Boxing needs more risk-takers. Even if Zayas loses, he has earned my respect by stepping up to fight Ennis. More boxers need to take note. Stuff like that earns you more fans, and more money down the road.
No its not. A points deduction means a foul lol.
This is from the pro judging general rules on the abc boxing website.
Haha..... do you agree, both fighters start a round at 10-10?
its ten point must system.
10 point-must-system does not mean one fighter definitely gets 10 points. They both start with 10 points. If the fighters knock each other down once, then is it 9-9........ and the round likely ends 9-8 if one of them gets the better of the other and wins the rest of the round.
Yes but if Ortiz dominated the Roy D they say it’s a 9/9 round
I was under the impression the round goes 10/9 cause it was a flash knockdown
I know I read something like that a while ago now I’m not sure where ( amateurs maybe , I don’t know)
Correct. If Ortiz gets knocked down but comes back and dominates the round, it is 9-9.
In your other post where you list the scoring rules, Item #3, point #5 says "If both fighters score a knockdown in the same round, the deductions cancel each other out, though the judges may still award the more dominant boxer 10-9."
I'm not sure why it says the judges "may" score it 10-9? An official knockdown is the loss of a point, period. If both fighters each go down once, then it is technically 9-9 at that point...... and whoever loses the round loses another point, making it 9-8. If they decide to magically bump up the 9-8 round to 10-9, it is pointless, but the end result would be exactly the same.
For those coping Ortiz fanboys, when a fighter is knocked down in the sport of boxing, that is a 10-8 round for the person that scored the KD. Period. It doesn't mean it's a 9-8 round if the guy who got knocked down outlanded the other boxer by 5 punches. LMFAO that is such desperate cope
You would have to do some serious damage to change it otherwise. Historically that is how the sport of boxing is scored. Period.
A knockdown absolutely does not mean the fighter scoring the knockdown automatically gets a 10-8 round. A knockdown means the knocked-down fighter loses A POINT...... not the entire round. If the knocked-down fighter goes on to CLEARLY with the round (assuming no more knockdowns), then that is a 9-9 round. Most people do not understand how this actually works.
don't pull chit out of your ass.
show me an example of the last time a judge officially scored a 9-8 round in a main event.
I'll wait.
You can wait all night for all I care. I'm correct.
Who scored those 2 kd 10-8? That's only when you don't lose the rd and score a KD. Ortiz win the two kd rds so those were 9-8 for Bohachuck
They would be 9-9 in that case.. Both fighters start a round with 10 points. If the round is considered totally even, judges score that 10-10. If a fighter gets knoced down, they lose a point. So, when Ortiz goes down it is 10 (Bohachuck) -9 (Ortiz) at that point. Whoever loses the round also loses a point (Bohachuck). So, that would make it 9-9. I actually really hate when announcers automatically say a round is 10-8 when a knockdown happens. That is absolutely not true, and in many cases the knocked down fighter goes on to win the round, making it 9-9.
It's a 10 point must system. The only way a fighter who got the 10 points can get less is if there is a point deduction.
That is correct. A knockdown results in a point deduction.
No it doesn't have to be "extreme circumstances"
If you get beat around the ring that rd but scored a crappy balance KD you get 10-9 not 10-8
Somewhat correct...... what you are describing would be 9-9..... not 10-9. You are misunderstanding the 10-point-must system. If each fighter goes down once in a round, it is 9-9 at that point (each lost 1 point for a knockdown). Then, another point will be taken from the guy that actually lost the round.
The OP saying 10-8 except for "extreme circumstances" is a ridiculous comment. 100% not true.
It’s 10/9
You being knocked down and win the round anyway becomes 10/9
Not true. You can't be knocked down and score 10 points. A knockdown is THE LOSS of a point.
No its not. A points deduction means a foul lol.
This is from the pro judging general rules on the abc boxing website.
That gives the exact same end result. They are just "magically" adding a point to each fighter (I alluded to in a different post)...... creating a 10-10 round when it technically should be 9-9. Dumb and pointless, but the end result doesn't change.
Also..... just responding to the title of the thread...... that would not necessarily be "extremely rare". A 9-8 round would happen if the fighters knocked each other down once in a round, then assuming one guy "won" the round overall. Each lose a point for the knockdown, then the loser of the round loses another point, thus, 9-8. It happens.
Now.... it really depends on the severity of the knockdown, and it does get subjective. Think back to the Deontay Wilder KD of Tyson Fury in the 12th round of their first fight. That was a brutal knockdown. At that point, Fury would have to do A LOT to come back and actually win that round.
Heck yeah! More people on here need to start tuning in to ProBox. I watched a good many of these cards last year..... always solid fights. I believe it was only $1.99/month last year, and so far it is free this year. Check it out. On paper, these could be some good fights. The have a card at least every other Wednesday night starting at 8:00 EST. I believe they mixed in some Friday and/or Saturday cards as well.
Card starts in about 45 minutes for anyone interested :boxing:
I absolutely can't stand listening to Timothy Bradley. I have to turn off the volume, which I hate to do. Why does he constantly keep referring to Tessitore? "Tess" this, "Tess" that...... I can't stand it. He hit him with that uppercut, Tess. He's circling the wrong way, Tess. He's breathing heavy, Tess. He's on unsteady legs, Tess. STOP IT!!!! I can't wait for the day Bradley gets let go from ESPN so I can enjoy watching their fights again.
What is Bradley talking about that was a sternum shot not a liver shot.
Exactly. Bradley is terrible. I was really enjoying this fight, but really wish Tim Bradley would just shut up. I lost track of how many times he said 'Tess". Loma keeps changing levels, Tess. He's applying pressure simply with his footwork, Tess.:mad::mad: So annoying.
Well.... it's not that you only get 2 live events per month..... they are just promising at least 2 per month. ....and it makes no sense that non-subscribers can watch for free, but me, as a paying customer, can't?? Just so weird that I get an e-mail from out of nowhere saying they were cancelling my subscription but I can continue to watch for free until the end of the year. They have a really good thing going with this, but this is not the first time I had trouble accessing the streams. Hope they get this fixed.
The Benavidez team was just embarrassing at that press conference. No class at all. Why all the foul language? Is that really necessary? ....and David READING his comments from a pre-written script on his phone? What a joke!! Did he put all the bad words into his script also? Did he practice that in front of a mirror once or twice? LOL That was the most ridiculous thing I have seen in quite a while. Caleb Plant was like..... really?!?! So embarrassing for Benavidez, in hindsight. Plant is highly skilled and very determined. I still have him as a slight underdog here.... but he can absolutely win this fight. Looking forward to it. Go Plant!
The fight is in 2 weeks and they don't know who he's fighting? This is part of the problem with boxing. We already know the result of the fight, yet they want us to pay for it?
ProBox better never have Kelvin Davis on again. If the goal is to have good, evenly matched, exciting 50/50 fights...... Davis just disqualified himself from future events. I never want to see him fight again.
Montana Love is a quitter. He was getting KO'd, and purposely did what he did. This guy reminds me of Adrien Broner..... running his mouth the whole time. Spark was the beginning of the end of this guy's career. Total garbage.
I really like the ref's decision. He has some huge nuts to disqualify the home fighter, but I think it was the correct decision.
100% correct. Good call by the ref. A lot of times I get so frustrated at early stoppages, but this was a clear DQ. Glad he didn't cave to any pressure or politics here.
This fight is one of my best memories as a boxing fan. I literally scheduled my wedding a week before this fight was supposed to take place so I didn't miss it!! :) There is no way Hopkins should have been an underdog in this fight. Hopkins grabbing that Puerto-Rican flag and throwing it to the ground IN Puerto Rico was crazy. Hopkins absolutely had Trinidad flustered and rattled before the fight. Also recall...... Hopkins accurately predicted that Tito Trinidad had too much heart and would not quit, and that Papa Trinidad would have to jump in and save his son. That is EXACTLY what happened. Great fight. If you are not familiar with this one...... go back and watch videos of the build-up to the fight, and then the actual fight. Awesome stuff.
The plan when fighting Shakira is to stay on his ass and not let him think and jab all fight long. He will avoid any dangerous fighter. His team is doing all possible to keep him away from Teo and Tank. Shakira has been exposed and his handlers at Top Rank must now pick his fight very carefully avoiding punchers and fighters who will put pressure on her ass.
I'd like to see him in with the version of Marcos Maidana that fought Mayweather the first time.
I believe that. Honestly.... this is close to a 50/50-type fight, but I think Spence is ducking Crawford. Definitely not the other way around. Crawford wants this. Thurman is not beating Spence, and Spence knows it. It is a nice payday for him, and it is a recognizable name.
I'm supporting the Crawford PPV. Based on what he actually said, he did everything he could to make the Spence fight. I don't listen to the narrative, I listen to what the actual sources say and make up my own mind.
My assessment is that the current powers that be in boxing didn't want to make an undisputed Spence - Crawford fight, and now they're trying to hamper the BLK Prime event with multiple events on the same day.
I don't want to see Shakur Stevenson fight anyone ever again. Lomachenko vs. Navarate would be good, but they should make Tank Davis vs Loma next, assuming he beats Martin. That would be a good fight!
That didn't go the way mister neck tattoo thought it would. Brown totally reminded me of Adrien Broner on his ring walk & fake brushing his hair during the introductions. Good job by Schramm.
