I like this kid he’s gonna be huge and with the amount of haters he has already he’s headed in the right track.
I thought you were team Ryan Garcia. You can't be on two bandwagons at once. FYI, Lopez dislikes and is jealous of Garcia
it is to a lot of fighters, but it shouldn't be that big of a deal to him because he's just facing a guy who is much bigger,stronger...so if he loses it's really not a surprise he lost,if he would have lost to Robert easter I would think it would be a bigger deal for him but not against spence
I know what you mean. I don't think Mikey is concerned of losing to Spence but more so of not being able to get what he set out to do which is become a 5 division world champion.
He knows more than Ryan Garcia and Gaecia seems to be doing just fine.
Haha true but Ryan’s dad translates for him so it’s likely going to be the same with Andy. The big difference here is Ryan knows discipline while Andy has shown he does not. Reynoso, while a good trainer, cannot turn every fighter in his arsenal into an elite fighter. Can he do it with Andy? We’ll see
Why does it feel like this fight will never happen. I understand Arum wants an audience given its a unification fight but that’s just not going to happen anytime soon amidst a pandemic. The more they keep rescheduling the more they risk in losing this fight cause Lopez will struggle making weight
He’s 24 years old, why do you suspect he’s at his ceiling?
Because he looks the same as in his previous fights. The trilogy with Negrete was entertaining but repetitive. Right now Estrada, Sor Rungvisai, Chocolatito, Nietes, Ancajas beat him. Im not sure if he will stay at this weight much longer given he had some trouble on the scale but for arguments sake we’ll blame it on inactivity. Franco had Moloney where he wanted him cause Moloney kept the fight frequently at mid range allowing Franco to connect and counter. I take back what I said though about hitting his ceiling. Best way to put it is he’s limited but you’re right. He’s only 24 and could get better or this could be the best we’ll ever see of Joshua Franco
This is going to be a short fight. The co-main event with Machado and Mensah will be more of an entertaining fight. This just looks too one sided for me. I suppose we could say this is a good test for starters for Munguia though I would have preferred someone else for him. Unfortunately, Smith had to be the mandatory. Even when he beats Smith, I don't think people will be sold on him cause Smith lacks power. I think the reality of this fight is that HBO is so desperate to find the next big mexican fighter since Canelo is starting to diminish and Showtime and ESPN has been outnumbering them in the viewership ratings. which reminds me next weekend is the Garcia and Easter fight. That would be more of an exciting fight cause I'm curious to see what adjustments Easter will have now that he's with Kevin Cunningham. I could be wrong though. The Munguia and Smith fight could be competitive. We'll know for sure tomorrow night how Munguia handles himself with an experienced welterweight
I don't understand all the hate Mikey gets? People seem to forget Mikey was a Champion @ 140? They wouldn't have a problem with Prograis, Ramirez, or Taylor fighting Crawford, but they hate the idea of Mikey fighting Pacquiao? Instead of celebrating Mikey's keen business mind, they seem to hate him for it! Too much hate for a fighter with one loss!
My best guess is that they placed bets on Mikey to beat Spence having said he "sees" something in Spence to exploit and that he's chasing for greatness but the complete opposite happened. Mikey got a moral victory, received the biggest pay day in his career and the rest is history. Pacquaio should fight Spence, Crawford or Porter. Mikey too slow at 147
These two need to fight each other instead of taking setup fights. This is the kind of match up boxing fans dream of! Makes ZERO sense to let this marinate because one or both of them will lose and the luster will go away; it happens in boxing. This should be targeted for late 2019 or early 2020 at the latest.
I agree. I seen some fights on ShoBox Generations where they have a prospect against another prospect (both undefeated) fight each other. Example, James Wilkins vs Misael Lopez. I'm sure TR can do the same by giving us Haney vs Lopez to fight for a title
Josesito Lopez would be a good step up for Vergil Ortiz Jr.!
A huge step up if Vergil can get past Orozco but unlikely to happen since Josesito is also trained by Robert Garcia
Haney and Lopez need to stop fighting nobodies and fight each other for a 12 round fight, winner and maybe the loser rises to new heights. No one wants to see setups and gravy train crap. Give us the fights we want!!!
Who do you have winning? Haney or Lopez? We could thrown in Garcia and Stevenson in the mix
They should have Vergil Ortiz fight Carlos O’Campo. Sure Spence took him out in the first round but with a hard shot to the liver that would temporary paralyze anyone but he’s been looking good since and has a 6 fight winning streak
This the same guy Ancajas dropped 3 times in that one sided fight. Yafai looking to make a statement to Ancajas that he can stop Gonzalez before the 10th round. If Yafai good on the jab, Gonzalez will have problems getting inside
Now that Showtime doesn't have any direct competition, they will start putting on more mismatches and fights no one wants to see.
I'm actually excited for Lara vs Castano. That will be pure action cause Castano is a power puncher who likes to brawl but Lara the more experienced and can make Castano miss his shots so Lara can outbox him
Teo seems nervous. He has dug himself in a hole he can’t get out of. Now that the stakes are higher, he’s come to the realization that the top dogs are not intimated by his power and it’s not all fun and games. For the record, I’m looking forward to watching him embarrass himself on tv.
Was Rey Vargas not available? What’s the excuse for a tune up or stay busy fight when you’ve had 3 already? I don’t count De Vaca since Navarrete was entitled to one soft opponent after his rematch with Dogboe
He's a big and promising fighter, but it would be a shame to feed him to Golovkin at 21 years old and potentially screw up the rest of his career. He's still very young, he'll have plenty of time to get a big fight when he's in his prime and ready for it. Hell, he may even get Canelo in 2-3 years.
Agreed with everything you just said. Unfortunately, by the time Munguia gets the shot, I feel that GGG will already have retired and we will never know what could have been. Canelo and Munguia. Forget about it. Oscar is too protective of his PPV star
Anybody but Teofimo Lopez, huh? The Takeover will continue with, or without you...COWARD!
February 1, 2019:
Teofimo Lopez Says He Will Face Jose Pedraza Later This Year
"I know that me and (Jose) Pedraza are fighting sometime down the line this year. That's a fight that is going to happen. I don't know if it is going to be during the Puerto Rican parade (in June) or December or whatever they got in mind. We can fight for the WBC title right there if its vacant," Lopez explained.
"It would be huge. It will be the main event and will sellout the whole arena because it will be a great fight. I have family there in New York. I have Brooklyn to support me and he has all the Puerto Ricans. It will be a fight that everyone wants to see. So when it is all said and done as long as we keep doing what we are doing - February 2nd is when it starts - we will start dropping them like dominoes."

Pedraza's Coach: Teofimo Lopez Brings Nothing To The Table!
One of the possible fights being discussed with Pedraza, is a confrontation against Teofimo López, an opponent who brings little appeal to the Puerto Rican boxer's team.
They see no upside in beating an undefeated, rising contender in Lopez - unless there is something of worth at stake.
"The question we have to ask ourselves is what can he bring to the table? To our judgment, nothing. If he wants to use us as a ladder to climb up, he's wrong, "Espada reacted to Carlos Gonzalez. "We're going to look upwards and not answer the call to help elevate someone else.
"It seems that Teofimo thinks that since José looked good against Lomachenko, he can use him to make a name for himself. The only way he would be attractive for us is if there is a title at stake."

Screw that hype job Teofimo. Just to be clear since a lot of people keep getting it twisted. He's Honduran not mexican. Give it time. The exposure is coming. Sadly, for the people who are ordering the Bud/Khan PPV they don't get to see him fight a decent opponent since they couldn't find him one. What's worse is that ESPN only added his name cause they're begging to make money in this PPV event. Why should Pedraza have to fight him? If he's not interested, that's his choice. Lots of fighters avoid names and guess what they're making a living. He'll be fine if he don't find Teofimo cause nobody asking for that fight. He can do himself a favor and move up in weight and prove to the people he's that good as he thinks he is. The moment he's matched with an opponent that has head movement, footwork, speed, power, that can jab, it won't be easy for him to land shots all night. You're buying into the hype. You could say I'm drinking too much hater-ade but in reality this is an honest assessment. If there is one prospect out there that's the real deal it's Vergil Ortiz Jr and possibly Shakur Stevenson but I have to see more of him but at least he has a better step up of an opponent against Diaz.
Props to Mikey for taking this fight. But from the other point of view, fighting the guy from 2 divisions below - is it a disgrace? Same goes to Loma-Rigo..
I wouldn't call it a disgrace. You have to look at it from Spence's perspective who is considered a P4P fighter. If Spence didn't take the fight, then people are going to say he ducked Mikey. None of the other welterweights want no part of him and Spence hasn't fought since mid June. He doesn't want to be inactive for almost a year especially when he's in shape and at his prime.
Valdez proved that night he has the heart of a warrior but I feel like his injury will have repercussions for him in his next fight. Hopefully that won't be the case. I agree with you boxfan83, he should leave Manny Robles cause his defense is no bueno
We all like Valdez but come on at least a half decent opponent that can hang. Loma suffered an injury and been out for months and his comeback fight is Pedraza. Thurman is fighting Josesito who is a decent fighter. Valdez isn’t to blame for being given a lame opponent. It’s Arum. They should just put this on ESPN + cause no one expects this to be competitive or Gago to pull an upset
Lopez is gonna hurt Loma something bad, Loma easily bruises and has had hand problems!
I expect by round 5 Loma’s face will look like the elephant man and then he’ll take a big shot he doesn’t see coming an it’ll be all over!
I however do believe Loma will be winning the fight on the cards before the stoppage comes!
Really good fight, and it’s on regular ESPN!
What do you think Lopez is made out of? He bruises, he bleeds, he feels anguish, he's touchable and makes mistakes. He's not some prodigy of boxing. He's a work in progress and may have bit off more than he can chew
Last I heard they were considering Ryan with Hector Tanajara and before that Mercito Gesta but Gesta’s team declined so it’s unlikely Ryan gets a fight in July and let’s be honest a fight with Mares is a far fetch given his inactivity and his bad history with Golden Boy
Herring is the WBO champion. It's a unification. If Ito would've won I guarantee you Berchelt would be fighting Ito.
Oh no question. Ito was the betting favorite that night. Herring showed he's a decent boxer and while I get it's a unification perhaps for Berchelt he's not an interesting opponent since a win over Herring isn't making a big statement. Think about it. What does every fighter want? To prove they are the best in the sport
This guy is going to regret this decision. There’s nothing impressive about Balderas aside as an exceptional amateur. Got what he deserved in being stopped by Giron by talking trash and saying he’s the face of boxing. Even said he would KO Teofimo. After his last fight no chance that happens
We have a better chance of seeing Loma vs. Lopez, and Tank vs. Haney, and I'm cool with that! Let's Go!
Isn't Arum working on setting up that fight for Lopez with Loma for 2019?
