Ringstar Sports CEO Richard Schaefer, who works closely with former four division champion Mikey Garcia (39-0, 30 KOs), does not expect a hometown crowd for Errol Spence (24-0, 21 KOs).
He believes the crowd will be 50-50 when Garcia, the current WBC lightweight champion, moves up by two weight divisions to challenge Spence for his IBF welterweight title at AT&T Stadium in Texas.
"You are going to have a crowd that is evenly split between Spence and Garcia. I don't think that you're going to have a hometown crowd for Spence, because Mikey Garcia has a lot of fans all over the place," Schaefer said.
The contest is a huge gamble for Garcia, who is giving up a lot of size and likely power in the contest.
This is not about the money, says Schaefer.
"Mikey took this fight because he truly believes, deep down, that he has the skills to beat Errol Spence. That's why Mikey is taking the fight and no other reason," Schaefer said.
"As I've said, he's not taking it for the paycheck - he could have made money somewhere else. He's taking it for legacy and because he knows that he has the skills to beat Errol Spence."
There are some concerns being raised in the media, with respect to the scoring - if the contest reaches a decision.
Over the last few years, Texas has had it's fair share of controversial decisions and referee mishaps.
But Schaefer is not worried about the judges or the referee.
"They better do a good job, because I want to see, as a boxing fan, the guy who wins gets the decision. And if I go somewhere, where the athletic commission doesn't know how ti pick the judges and the referee, then they have to change or I won't go back. In Texas, I don't have a problem with Texas," Schaefer said.
