While there are several good fights that can be made in the sport of boxing only a handful of them that hardcore fans would deem as top level match ups.

One of them is a potential super lightweight unified showdown that would produce an undisputed champion. That would of course pit WBC/WBO champion Jose Ramirez against IBF/WBA champion Josh Taylor.

There are a few obstacles, namely mandatory challengers, that have to be taken care of first. The plan is for Taylor to face his mandatory challenger Apinun Khongsong this summer and Ramirez will likely face Viktor Postol on August 29.

Ramirez was originally scheduled to face Postol in February but the fight has been postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He is trained by world class trainer Robert Garcia who's little brother, former multi-division world champion Mikey Garcia, recently spoke to Fighthype.com about the upcoming matchups.

"We were talking to (Jose) a couple weeks ago because they kept saying July then August. He is always in the gym staying in shape because you never know when that call might come that it is official. It is unfortunate that he had 2 dates postponed back in February and then in May. It is just hard times right now with this whole pandemic. We are hoping that he can get his date official and finalized so he can get back in the ring," said Garcia.

"He is a unified champion. He wants to show everybody that there is still more to Jose than what you have seen even though he has already accomplished so much. I think it would be a good matchup for him. I think he wins. They just got to get in the ring man."

As for the potential showdown against Taylor, Garcia is confident that Ramirez will emerge victorious as well.

"I think that would be a great fight because you got the boxer and you got Jose, the pressure fighter. That is always intriguing to people. Is the boxer the better fighter who can box, and be intelligent and use his skills, speed, footwork, whatever or will the power and strength overcome all that. I truly believe that Jose is one of the strongest fighters in the division. I think his power, strength and relentless aggression will overcome the skills and I think that is the edge," said Garcia.
