He's definitely not afraid. He's looking for one more huge pay day for his political war chest when he retires.
Political career? he obviously has the IQ of a 4 yr old.
legacy-wise it's hatton who lost this one not manny. manny's an atg lock-in already. and bob arum was the one who brokered the 50-50 w/o manny's knowledge.
Shut up you fool , you know nothing.
To help solve the solve the problem of unfair scoring how about all fights being open scoring in other words announcing how the judges scored the fight after each round, then the judges would be pressured to score the rounds fairly. Sure it takes that feeling of ansiety of wanting to know the results of a close toe to toe fight but at least the scores would be fair.
That would kill the game in a heartbeat.
OK guys, sorry about the Malignaggi decent effort thing. I didn't realy remember the fight so good couse it was pretty boring, my bad. But he did look SHIT against Lazcano. All he brings is the British TV audience and a one dimensional attack. I mean Pacman is the star, the NUMBER 1 PFP fighter in the world, he has EARNED the 60-40 split. Look at the guys resume. Hatton with his recent showings should be happy with that split. Floyd already made him big bucks.
Floyd never made anyone big bucks, Oscar was his one great payday, he always needed the money man and Hatton is a money man.
Hatton was only slightly hurt. I have just watched the fight again, and Hatton was not anywhere near being knocked down. His legs went for a couple of seconds, thats all. And the ref was warning Lazcano about holding Hatton down, when you can see Hatton look down and realise his shoes were undone.
The break benefited Lascano more than Hatton.
What does it matter, the bottom line is Manny is a greedy little twat and not a man of his word. The whole boxing world should hammer him just for that.
Does he honestly think he's bigger than the game, I suppose that's why the Philippines is a third world country.
I hear Calderon is fighting on Feb 21st and Gonzalez has to defend his crown shortly so it could be a way off but it has to happen. Its the perfect match, youth against experience, power against speed, promise against proven.
Apart from Hatton v pacquiao, it's the only fight I want to see.
thanks for that.
He sounds a bit lost actually but I suppose if you cant get a fight with anyone at your best weight, must be a bit confusing. I dont understand Solis not wanting the fight. Whats the downside to losing to Ivan calderon, its not like he has a great legacy to risk.
first just because the guy looks like a dchamp doesnt mean he will clear the 108 pound division like this guy is trying to say. Calderon is not the only 108 pounder champ, Solis and Sosa are very good too. They are not a walk in the park for anybody. This dude is trying to hype Gonzales as if he is the second comming of Finito Lopez.
Whats your point with that, every bodyknows Calderon is feather fisted. Styles makes fights my friend!!!!!!!!!
Oh and a quote from another nobody “He is a natural talent, much more polished at the age of 21 than what I could ever dream of being. If he dedicates himself, he can be one of the all time greats"
Alexis Arguello
Who the hell is Calderon gonna fight on the 21st of Feb? Not Gonzalez with a month to train, and prepare for with a dangerous unknown fighter from South America who no one even heard of before two days ago. all of sudden theres someone on Calderons level surre, I dont belive it you need proof, thats why Calderon said he wants to move up in weight to avoid fighting for crums and taking on bums for the rest of his career like every PR before him, fighting only the best of the best.

real champions take the challenge
Gonzalez is the number 1 Contender at 105. Calderon is the the lineal ring Champ at 108. Solis, Sosa, Canchila and Viloria are ahead of Gonzalez in the list of Calderons opponents at 108 and then is Omar Narvaes at 112. Sorry, but your kid will have to wait to get to Calderon. Anyways if it happends now, Calderon will outbox the shit out of him, 2 years down the line I have to say Gonzalez based on youth, power and size.
First of all, he is not the number one contender at 105 he is the ring magazine and WBA champion.
He would wipe the floor with any of the 108 guys and probably Calderon as well.
Where in Boxing these days does it matter about unification when everyone wants the two best guys to fight.
This is the fight and if the young kid wants it let calderon take an "easy match"
Gonzalez could get himself ranked in the top 5 108 without one more fight if he decides to.
Cazares, hes not fit to lace Gonzalez's gloves.
Nobody knows what the hell Calderon is talking about, if he moves down or stays he will fight Gonzalez because he does have a good win under his belt
Yutaka Niida. Its because Gonzalez is talking about fighting right now after Feb 21, at 108, to make it less stressful of Calderon having to move back down in weight, hes not talking about at the end of the year. Calderons best option is moving up in weight because thats where all the popular people are and after 32 fights he wants that $$$$
I dont think he wants the fight right now, I think he is just setting it up, all great matchups have to build a momentum and gonzalez has got the ball rolling. perhaps the fight after next could be on US tv, that would help a lot.
Two more fights each and then the big one in the fall.
Calderon deserves the payday to take on a dangerous guy like Gonzalez.
Gonzalez will have his paydays after when he dethrones him.

To shed a bit of light on this subject, Calderon has been training for a while and in a November interview, which is on Youtube he was talking of going back to 105, his words.
Gonzalez has not signed his first defense yet but it is looking like it will be in Japan in March, as Teiken are co promoting him and the money is there.
Any fight with Calderon is probably not going to happen until late fall by which time Gonzalez will have moved up and it will be a very sellable fight or
Calderon wants to come down and do it at 105.
ROMAN GONZALEZ
WBA Minimumweight Titleholder 22-0 (20)
Last Year’s Ranking: not rated
Status Report: Four reasons to get excited about “El Chocolatito”: He’s only 21, he’s a natural puncher, he needed only four rounds to bludgeon long-reigning Yutaka Niida in September, and it was his fifth fight of 2008, which was followed by a sixth fight, a non-title bout with journeyman Miguel Tellez (RTD 3), in December. Nicaraguan doesn’t have many other quality names on his resume, but the two best, title contenders, Eriberto Gejon and Jose Luis Varela, both met the same fate, falling in a single round.
Future: There’s still a ton to prove, but in terms of potential to capture the imagination, he’s the best strawweight to come along since Ricardo Lopez.
Just me and RING magazine I suppose.
Oh and Doug fischer from RING who has him to make top 10 P for P this year.
What fools we are.

Also...it's funny saying how "GONZALEZ NEEDS TO MOVE TO 108!", but yet Calderon a couple months ago was talking about fighting at 105 again against Donnie Nietes.
Gonzalez is growing, he really needs to move up, i dont think he can wait for Calderon for 6 months at 105. Calderon only has to make the call and he will be accomadated.
Do you realize that you cant hit what you cant catch? How the hell Gonzales will landed that uppercut if Calderon will be too far from him.

watch this chump, and see how cazares decked calderon twice with it and Gonzalez throws them by the dozen.
calderons fav way to slip a punch is to duck down , he is tailor made for gonzalez.
I think that answers your question.

If he's true to his word Gonzalez is his fight at 105
8 of gonzalez last 9 fights have been at 108, he wants to go up but calderon even talked about going down again in a November interview.
Weight is not the issue for this fight to happen , its all in calderons court by the looks.
Because people were mention that it didn't matter that Gonzalez KOd 2 other Calderon opponnets at 105.
And styles make fights, Gonzalez is a horrible style for Calderon. He'l tall, awkward, fast, tight defense, and insanely strong. He cuts off the ring extrememly well.
I'm not saying that Gonzalez deserves a shot at Calderon right now, and I'd like to see Calderon face someone like Solis, but Gonzalez would definietly beat him imo.
Gonzalez last fight in December is on gofightlive.com
He is best at what his body can make comfortably, then you lose no punching power.
The Oscar fight was a superbly calculated risk, not sure if the hatton one is.
I doubt he will take that much power up to 140 and Hatton has a decent chin.
It won't be one way traffic either, can he take what Hatton dishes out.
Gonzalez could be something special but I would hate to rush him and put him in against a guy like Calderon so soon, right now Calderon by decision.
The scalp is worth the risk, he can always bounce back.
The Calderon of two years ago would be different but Calderon is being forced to fight in recent fights because those legs cant go 12, especially against a young buck like Gonzalez who exerts pressure like no one calderon has faced.
Styles make fights I agree but age does also. He had to stand and fight Cazares a bit and didnt look very comfortable.
How does he keep Gonzales off 9 thru 12 with that wicked uppercut he throws 40 times a round, if he goes that far?
Can you name me a boxer "ever" that threw more.
I can't, and I have been watching boxing for a lot longer than i care to remember.
Pacquiao has always had great marquee ooponents and brings nothing to the table from his own country, as all fights are shown for free.
It really is as simple as that.
50/50 is more than fair.
:haha: whats beyond ridiculous is you insisting that the fight is 50/50 and ricky hatton is at the same level and of equal footing as the PACMAN (the most exciting and Pound for Pound fighter in the world).
Was that exciting against Oscar, I must have missed something.
When your promoter tells you your a twat, that really says it all.
I don't think the old Jew is about to make a bad deal after 50 yrs in the game.
