yes castillo had an advantage. he didn't have to stress his body out as much as corrales. losing weight is one thing, but being depleted of all your body fluids, basically being dehydrated, takes a lot out of you. not having to make weight, and actually gaining another pound or so is an advantage. that means your body has had more time to recuperate before the fight. having better rest and being hydrated means you are fully rested. which was the state that castillo was in and corrales wasn't. also castillo gaining weight after failing to make weight seems more along the lines of he wasn't even trying to lose any poundage, but more relying on his boy to rig the scale(cheating). even though they weighed in at 147, the damage stress to make weight for corrales was already done, castillo never reached the contracted wieght, so obviouly his body wasn't put through the ringer like corrales. castillo's win is marred by the controversy and now they'll have to do it at 140, because corrales looked week at the weigh in, he had a hard time making the weight this time too....
Well, I agree to a certain extent, however you are overlooking the fact that Castillo had to further restrict his weight after the initial weigh in, therefore maintaining himself in an unnatural state of dehydration. Corrales on the otherhand was able to rehydrate immediately after the first weigh in an therefore had more time to recover. Had Castillo missed the initial 135lb limit by a large margin say 140lbs then yes he would have had a distnct advantage, however he was only up by 2.5lbs which is not IMO anything to base an advantage on. What is unanswered in my mind is why Castillo failed to make weight, was it on purpose or not. Given the fact that this was a fight of such significance it surprises me that he or his camp allowed a get out of jail free card to Corrales.
im disgusted with castillo , he showed a complete lack of respect for boxing by not coming in at the right weight , he isn`t bothered about being champion he just wanted to beat corrales by any means necessary , they shouldn`t have let him fight , i like both these fighters so im not biased and i thought castillo would have beaten corrales if he would have come in at the right weight but because he`s a cheat he didn`t , ive lost a lot of respect for castillo for the way he acted
disgusted is a bit harsh but i am a little disapointed that he didnt underscore his win by making sure it was within a legitimate circumstances. I dont buy any of this weight advantage shit because if you have ever fought yourself and been through the ringer trying to make weight you know that 2or so lbs difference is not an issue.
you can't give Castillo credit for beating a guy unless he does it within the rules. if he wants to come in weighing 156, go to junior middleweight, but don't weigh 156 and beat Corrales, then claim you're the best lightweight in the world. Castillo gets no credit if he pulls out a win tomorrow night. no credit at all.
Thats ridiculous, you obviously are in denial if you think that most fighters dont come in way over the fight weight. Do you regard them as cheats as well? I am a fan of both fighters but if they both come in above 135 which they will, then you cant differentiate between who is cheating and who isnt. Plus you cant say that Corrales actions in the first fight were within the rules, because they were not. I give him credit for trying it and getting away with it, but he did just that, get away with it due to poor referee judgement. Not forgetting the fact that he and Joe Goosen were beside themselves when Acelino Freitas did the exact same thing.
