Now I'm not a boxer so I don't know what toll making weight takes on the body, so I can't comment on whether Castillo had an advantage or not. But I can propose a scenerio that may help answer my question.
Scenerio:
- Boxer A has a normal weight of 150. He makes weight at 135 and comes in at 150 for the fight.
- Boxer B also has a normal weight of 150. Let's say he doesn't have to make weight, so he never goes down to 135. He comes in at 150.
Who has the advantage and why?
If the answer is Boxer B, then wouldn't that mean Castillo had an advantage? Regardless of whether it was only 3 pounds, an advantage is an advantage right?
Like I said, I'd like a non-biased intelligent answer please. Thanks.
aftr watchin the corrales castillo rematch
i think, that the weight issue didn't make a diff, and if there was anything as a distratcion for the two, it would be on castillo
corrrales complained when he was stopped in his other 2 fights, this one, no one to bitch about but himself he was KO"D FLAT
Well, I agree to a certain extent, however you are overlooking the fact that Castillo had to further restrict his weight after the initial weigh in, therefore maintaining himself in an unnatural state of dehydration. Corrales on the otherhand was able to rehydrate immediately after the first weigh in an therefore had more time to recover. Had Castillo missed the initial 135lb limit by a large margin say 140lbs then yes he would have had a distnct advantage, however he was only up by 2.5lbs which is not IMO anything to base an advantage on. What is unanswered in my mind is why Castillo failed to make weight, was it on purpose or not. Given the fact that this was a fight of such significance it surprises me that he or his camp allowed a get out of jail free card to Corrales.
by not making weight, castillo was more rested, he didn't go through the same amount of stress that corrales did. it's like he had a day or so more rest then corrales, even though they had the same amount of time to rest, not making the weight means that castillo hadn't been in the same physical challenge as corrales. i read some one was asking why it was hard for corrales to make weight this time even though he came from 130. coming up from 130 is a natural progression, as we all get older we all put on some weight, it's inevitable. 95% of fighters walk around at a higer weight than when they fight, making 130 was killing corrales and now making 135 is starting to take it's toll. me personally i think that they should both get it on at 140 and settle this......but they should at least take about 9 months off.....
I guess the bottom line is Corrales out-weighed Castillo come fight time.
Castillo was my pick to beat Diego but when I heard that he looked very drained from trying to make weight I switched my pick.
But the biggest difference in the fight was last time, Jose Luis had fought 3 fights, 3 big fights, in 6 months. This time he was fresh. And you see what happened.
weird how thata happens on this site, huh.
Listen, Castillo, i believe, never intended to make weight. He was therefore at an advantage because he could train for however mnay weeks knowing he only had to get down to 138 or so. Corrales trained knowing he had to get at 135. If you spend 8 weeks settling your body into a heavier weight than your opponent then you will have an advantage. i'm sorry. That meant he couls eat that much more each day, train that much more/less (whatever suited him), and drink that much more water in the lead up to the weigh in. These are all advantageous i believe to Castillo.
i depends how easy corrales makes weight. if he struggled also then the advantage is with castillo because after he failed the first time he went away and came back HEAVIER, so he knew he had no chance of making 135lb and winning the fight.
having watched the fight, and they both weighed similar come fight time (chico a little heavier), i think the difference was castillo's hand speed. it seemed quicker than chico's, and castillo was able to catch chico with counter left hooks and right hands at will. it was a sweet counter left hook that finished the fight.
roll on no.3!
How come some of you guys are saying that Corrales had to struggle to make the 135 lbs. weight when he is coming from 130 lbs?, he was an smaller fighter before, and this is suppouse to be a "better" weight division for him, because he is stronger and blah, blah, blah.... ??
I think that weight is really important in this sport, that's why there's a lot of weight classes with just about 3 to 5 pounds of difference. But in this particular case, I don't think that fact affected the ending of the fight, because Castillo had to make some adjustments before he entered the ring for the fight, and in my opinion, that made it for the "overweight" that Castillo came with on the weight ceremony.
yes castillo had an advantage. he didn't have to stress his body out as much as corrales. losing weight is one thing, but being depleted of all your body fluids, basically being dehydrated, takes a lot out of you. not having to make weight, and actually gaining another pound or so is an advantage. that means your body has had more time to recuperate before the fight. having better rest and being hydrated means you are fully rested. which was the state that castillo was in and corrales wasn't. also castillo gaining weight after failing to make weight seems more along the lines of he wasn't even trying to lose any poundage, but more relying on his boy to rig the scale(cheating). even though they weighed in at 147, the damage stress to make weight for corrales was already done, castillo never reached the contracted wieght, so obviouly his body wasn't put through the ringer like corrales. castillo's win is marred by the controversy and now they'll have to do it at 140, because corrales looked week at the weigh in, he had a hard time making the weight this time too....

How is Castillo going to have the advantage when he had to weigh in again at 3pm to make 147lbs to avoid getting finded even more? Corrales was heavier...if anything corales had the advantage...he didn't have anything to lose..and he got KTFO!
To answer the original question. Yes, coming in at such a different weight (150 when you should be 135) is an advantage in the essence of it. However coming in at that weight may also be considered as a disadvantage if you are a fat fucker, or if you havent done cardio (to wear off fat) and therefore your stamina will suffer.
But in a professional situation, were both are healthy fighters, the one who is heavier has the advantage....
I wish Castillo had made weight, for fuck sake. Corrales made no excuses, like a rue sportsman. Yea Castillo had an advantage, he didn struggle to make weight. He didnt drain himsel like he usually would have. I still cant believe that he didnt know what his weight was before weigh in. What an asshole, i was cheering for him. His win is tainted.
I think Corrales had the advantage. He was not the one struggling to make weight.
castillo definitly had the advantage, but he still won, i dont think a few pounds made the difference in this fight, chico needs to be better prepared next time
to give you my honest opinion, i don't believe so. i think the KO came more because Corrales allowed every uppercut Castillo threw at him (you could say that about almost every much Castillo threw). Corrales thought he could just 'weather' everything like he did the 1st fight, and got caught with a serious shot that dropped him. i think Corrales will go back and have a much better strategy come the 3rd fight which in turn will make the trilogy all the sweeter. :D
My thoughts exactly.
no.i think its other way around coz castillo is losing some power n stamina on sauna.im for castillo but i predict chico will win coz castillo struggle the weight.but anyway.tis just an opinion.

Castillo had ta advantage!!!!
1. Agreement was 135lbs, he came in over ta limit heavier.
2. History tells us, 140lbs SHOULD BE TA WEIGHT OF CASTILLO'S FIGHT TONIGHT HAD HE BEATEN CORRALES last time. Shows, that he is already accustomed to bein a fat ass! He should fight sumone his size. MIGUEL COTTO!
So who has the advantage in the scenerio?
I think Corrales had the advantage. He was not the one struggling to make weight.
