I'm also sick of this "boxing is dead" talk. I don't know why the media feels the need to push that. Boxing as far as I'm concerned has never really been a mainstream sport like basketball, football, etc. It's always been kind of on the outside until a big fight as we witnessed last week happens.
The problem is there are "big" fights all the time that aren't even covered by the major media outlets. The casual fans I don't think even understand what a great fight is. We here on the forum see Pac v.s. Morales 1 & 2 as great fights, while the casual fan sees Tyson/Lewis as a "great fight" simply because of the knockout.
I think against Mayweather speed is so critical. Judah isn't exactly a slow fighter, nor Oscar for that matter and I believe in both those fights Floyd's speed was the difference.
I think the only way Floyd loses at this point in his career is if he would try to go any higher than 154. Otherwise, with age he'll lose some of that elusiveness as we've seen with all tactical fighters.
Mayweather fans are clearly biased
No disrespect, but your avatar is all we need to see to not take this quote seriously. You are obviously an Oscar fan, which is fine, he is a great fighter.
How can you say both had even offense when Floyd landed a higher percentage of punches?? Do you really score for punches thrown to the wind? Again, no disrespect I'm just trying to understand the logic of anyone thinking this was anything but a Floyd Mayweather win.
There is no need for a rematch. I believe Oscar went all out and did what he could. You can't hurt what you can't hit.
Ok, I've watched the fight twice - I scored the 2,6, and 7th round for DLH. All this talk about Oscar "pressing the action" and so forth is moot. Floyd is a defensive fighter. We all knew this going in. Because Floyd made DLH stalk him and press we are supposed to score for Oscar?? That is crazy talk.
Plain and simple - Oscar stalked, Floyd made him miss and scored moving away almost every round. And please, let's stop this talk about Oscar throwing more punches as a reason he should have won - now people are changing the way fights have been scored for years to save the beloved DLH.
and who do you suppose is going to be able to do that?
I know that's what I keep thinking reading some of the posts in this forum about "what Oscar did". Hey that's it, just do what Oscar did - only better! Oscar's one of the best fighters in the world, we going to have Floyd v.s. some super alien boxer?
He's the greatest defensive fighter of all time, Oscar was the greatest runner in the last 3 rounds against Tito, know the difference between running and defense.
I second that.
Hello to everyone, can't believe this is the first time I stumbled on to this site.
How could anyone possibly think this fight was anything but a dominant performance by Floyd. Oscar gave it his best shot, he fought a decent fight against a nearly untouchable fighter.
How do you steal rounds by wildly throwing flurries that miss the mark?? Mayweather gained my vote just by the amazing way he dodged those punches...not to mention countering and landing after most of the missed flurries.
I knew when I saw the first judge score for DLH that it would be called "controversial" by pro-DLH fans. DLH is a great fighter, but let's face facts here - he was simply outclassed (in terms of technical boxing).
I enjoy watching some mma now and then. I think there is a place for it and don't know why the media always makes an mma v.s. boxing debate.
Boxers are way more technically sound punchers - mma fighters also fight on the ground. I live in an MMA town of sorts where Pat Miletich owns a gym and trains many fighters. What I've noticed is there are quite a few guys that enter mma and after only a couple years become champions. In boxing there are fighters that fight their whole lives to make it to the pinnacle of the sport. That does make me scratch my head.
