Am I the only one that is fucking sick of hearing this? It seems to be the popular 'philosophical' statement nowadays. Boxing will never die, it never did and it never could.
As long as men stand as men, throwing punches alone, there will be the people that understand that this fighting in its purest form. There will be fluctuations, there always have been. But it is only in anticipation of the latest fighter to throw the sport into the next era.
Boxing is not dying. Boxing will never die. As long as there are men, boxing will prevail as the number one combat sport. Period.
yes I'm fuckin sick of hearing that shit. A lot of it comes from MMA propaganda which feels as though it needs to compete with boxing through such ways. But over 8 years of hearing "boxing is dying" sort of takes the sting out of the coment. Pointless thing to say anyway because it simply is not true.
Been some good memorable fights these past few years and the only way is up for boxing as far as I can see.
How is it dying? Sure it's not popular like in the 90's when you had big names like Tyson, DLH, James Toney, RJJ, Chavez, Holyfield, etc, but it's not dying. Their is millions of fight fans out there, their just not casual fans anymore.
Compared to 2000 era when the biggest names are Pacquiao and Mayweather.
if it is dying then Maywetaher is killing it.
What kind of man is he? all he does is duck people, run when he does get in the ring, and talk shit.
way to go Floyd!!!
The DLH MAYWEATHER fight didn't help boxing gain a wider audience, most people felt ripped off after the fight, saying it was a joke. If the fight had have been exciting and everything we all love to see in a good fight, If think the sport could have picked up a few extra fans but instead it people felt robbed. Thanks Oscar, "I'm doing this for boxing". Imagine if everyone who watched last weeks fight watch Barrera - Morales instead. They main stream would be back for more.
But the sport will never die, there's too many die hards like us. But, we need a new star, Oscar is old and never lives up to his hype. As much as I hate the NAZ's of this world, the fight game needs them.
LONG LIVE BOXING.
I think Oscar tried everything that he could. If Floyd had traded, as he said he would, it could have made for a great fight.

Big names are what the MEDIA want you to know about...people know about big fights and know about boxing because of the Big names... there was and are entertaining fighters that people dont even know about... Aaron Pryor (The Past Overlooked King), Emmanuel Augustus (Not great but entertaining), Jason Litzau, and Miguel Cotto... ask a regular shmoe, but they wont know... boxing is never dead... its just its publicist just sucks...
I hear you Bros! Long live Boxing! alot of folks are taking the liking of UFC because they go all out. Now a days, prize fighting is all about the money. guys like SRL, Duran, Hagler, Tyson, Chavez, Trinidad...they got in the ring to challenge thier skills. While being elusive, defensive ala Winky, Floyd, is indeed impressive, they make for lacklust "FIGHTS", not saying boring, but unintertaining. But with guys like Cotto, Guzman, Pacman, Miranda, Klitshko...who are willing to mix it up....Boxing will NEVER go away.
If only we had fighterslike Mike Tyson around now, boxing would be safe. Of course when Tyson was doing his thing boxing needed the big names of the 70s to save it. Back in the 70s fighters like Ray Robinson were sorely missed. And when Ray Robinson was around boxing needed Joe Louis. In Joe Louis' day boxing was dying not like when we had Gene Tunney and Jack Dempsey, but when Dempsey was starting out everyone was concerned with Jim L Sullivan... Boxing has been dying for a hundred years yet it's still here...
The equilibrium will return, I have no doubt about that. It is a just a natural fact, the Darwinian Theory of sport. Boxing is the only combat sport that features periods of actual beauty. You know what i'm talking about. The day I truly became a boxing fan was when I saw a clip of Ali slipping Terrel's shots by milimetres. Now you see Floyd lying on the ropes shifting his body and deflecting punches as Superman would bullets. No other sport can claim to be the 'sweet science.' Boxing is beautiful. UFC is not. The equilibrium will return.
Even though Mayweather/ De La Hoya had all those PPV buys I think it really hurt the sport more than it helped it. Promoting it as the biggest fight in boxing history was BS and it gave it a standard it couldn't possible live up to. But in the long I'm pretty sure boxing will never die and I think MMA coming into the mainstream will be a really good think for boxing. More kids will be into the fighting sports instead of going to football or basketball and they will see that boxing takes just as much skill if not more than ultimate fighting does. IMO hand to hand combat is easily the best and it will begin to show once boxing gets more substance and hopeful a little less corruption.
I'll never watch mma, because I can learn nothing from it that would benefit me inside the boxing ring.
Are you training to be a pro boxer?
or are you just hoping every fight you get in, will be conveniently in a ring, and your opponent would have never viewed MMA before or practiced how to tackle? Just a question though.
1) Boxing is not dying, it has cycles, (not like a woman) that it goes through like any other sport.
2) Equating the rise in MMA to boxings downfall is just plain dumb. If you're to say MMA is responsible for any sport's direct decline, it'd be pro wrestling.
3) THERE CAN BE more then 1 combat sport you know.
4) Boxing may not retain the position as the #1 combat sport, but I highly doubt it'll fall below #2 in the next 20 years.
and
5) The only real trouble that boxing has ever faced is its own dishonesty, and the cans that it customarily feeds it's big name boxers for X amount of years.
Other then that, it's going to still be here for a long while. This subject has been done to death. Thread Done.
I'm also sick of this "boxing is dead" talk. I don't know why the media feels the need to push that. Boxing as far as I'm concerned has never really been a mainstream sport like basketball, football, etc. It's always been kind of on the outside until a big fight as we witnessed last week happens.
The problem is there are "big" fights all the time that aren't even covered by the major media outlets. The casual fans I don't think even understand what a great fight is. We here on the forum see Pac v.s. Morales 1 & 2 as great fights, while the casual fan sees Tyson/Lewis as a "great fight" simply because of the knockout.
