I'm picking Agieri as well. I don't think Ruslan is able to get up for this fight, he's eyeing bigger and better things. Algieri tops Ruslan in a lot of categories, but can he move enough for 12 rounds and keep Ruslan off?
I don't know too much about Chris, but it seems he's hungry, in good shape, quick with hands and feet. He's at home, and from all accounts he can box well.
Plus if you're a betting man, there's great value in taking Algieri at the given odds
That's my only worry about Chris, can he keep Ruslan off of him without breaking down. It's a very hard thing to do.
In some other countries it's far much harder to become a trainer or manager. I know France has an incredibly long process to be a certified boxing trainer.
I don't think being an actual fighter has anything to do with being a good trainer, or manager or promoter, it's all on the individual and who he has learned from.
The best fighters for the most part, make the worst trainers.
point I'm trying to make is >> don't call a fighter a bum, say he/she is scared, or anything if you don't have any clue what its like to be a fighter. they have the balls to sit at a desk at complain but don't have the balls to get in the ring.. That's why I honor De la hoya, Bernard Hopkins, Floyd mayweather and all the promoters that are/was fighters
Curious, how did you get the "Cornflake" nickname?
lol I get asked this all the time. I'll make the long story short. When I was 9, I started boxing. Turned out I was the only white boxer in the gym at the time. There was many of other boxers who have a different race but I was the only white one. So another boxer Bryne Green came out of no where and said "you remind me of cornflakes, your the only white kid that's surrounded buy all us colored guys" lol .. so the name stuck. Till this day, Bryne has become my best friend. I tried to get rid of it but I knew it was official when I got "cornflake" embroidered on one of my amateur outfits.
Cornflizzle: who are your favorite boxers and who does your style most resemble?
I noticed you boxed an 8 rounder most recently. How did you feel fighting that many rounds, and do you think you're ready for a 10 rounder?
Lastly, have you watched Ali Raymi? What do you think of his impressive boxing record? Is he the greatest boxer of all time in your opinion?
Thanks for your time, champ.
I like to consider myself a boxer, but I can bang if I have too. I actually have 2 favorite fighters. My favorite boxer of all time is Floyd Mayweather but on a personal level, Me and Ray Mercer are like brothers. I look up to him a lot so it's Mayweather and Mercer.
Hi, Cornflake. Welcome to the forum.
I hope you don't mind my asking, but I noticed you wear glasses outside the ring and was wondering: do you wear contact lenses in the ring or just fight with things a bit blurry?
P.S. I saw a vid of you knocking a guy out in the 1st yesterday. You fought well - good counterpunching.
Thank you! Yea I use contacts when I fight
Congrats with the contract with Peltz. He will get you some nice fights on NBC, Chicago area and A.C. You will get the publicity that you deserve. Stay active and pump that jab. I 've watched 2 of your fights on Youtube and liked the style.
:boxing::boxing::boxing:
Thank you! I believe Peltz and Vinny Ponte of Gulf Stream Promotions will get me to where I need to be. If NBC pops up,, I will make sure I am 110% ready. I don't rush things. That's something REALLY IMPORTANT that I've learned. When it's my time, it will come. I just work on my craft and learn as much as I can each and everyday to better myself.
He got too big. I remember before the Alexander fight, he had like 500 twitter followers.
I don't agree with that. I have a great fan support system and I wouldn't be where I'm at in boxing without them. I never forget where I come from and who was there when I was nothing, broke, down on the ground hurting and all. There's enough time in the day to interact with the people who make me who I am today, and I'm thankful for that!
lol, you are a star on here already. Honestly, I haven't seen any footage of you but I'll be sure to check some out and good luck on your next fight man. :boxing:
lol. Thank you a lot. I look to be back in the ring in June.
its all just to generate controversy to hopefully add to ppv buys. as mentioned, this fight needs to generate 1.5 milion ppv buys to break even.
even on cinco de mayo weekend with a stacked undercard, i dont think this does 1.5 million. Given the circumstances though (stacked undercard + cinco de mayo), anything under 1.2 milion is a flop.
yea but what does gloves have anything to do with someone either buying the ppv or not? only the true "boxing public" knows about the glove thing, why would that impact the ppv buys? One thing about Floyd and Broner. People pay to see them win, BUT MORE PEOPLE PAY TO SEE THEM LOOSE. I think ppv will do good. 4 great fights. Maidana is at his peak and you never know what can happen boxing.
Actually, I would like to hear your perspective, as a pro boxer. How do you feel about it?
Legit complaint from them, do you think?
I see it in 2 ways.. As a fighter, I want to have as much safety as possible. for me and my opponent. So with Floyd not being comfortable with those Blue Everlast MX gloves, I can agree because at the end of the day, Maidana already hits like a Mull. So with very little padding it will be crazy. So I agree with Floyd saying no to those blue MX gloves BUT HERE'S WHAT I DONT LIKE:
In the contract, it stated that each fighter can wear whatever brand/type glove they wanted that is approved by commission. Turns out those original blue MX glove that Maidana wanted to use, was NOT APPROVED by commission.
The Everlast MX has been used in Nevada hundreds of times AND HAS BEEN USED AGAINST FLOYD in Cotto fight. Everlast MX is Maidana's glove just like Grant is Floyds.
Mayweather was insisting that Maidana can't wear Everlast MX AT ALL because of the way the glove is made (with horse hair) >> I THINK THAT'S BULL ****. Maidana was giving another RED pair of MX that was approved by Nevada commission ( must of been more padded - idk? )
I understand Floyd is the boss but he can't call all the shots. If a certain brand/style pair of gloves is approved by commission, and contract states they can use any approved kind, than there's no argument. If a boxer is not comfortable with his opponents gloves and commission agrees, that's ok with me. When Floyd says no you can't wear MX, you wear grant like me, that's a super **** NO.
Hope this helped.
IMO it was all to sell this fight; but I find it ridiculous that Leonard still had a problem with the gloves that NSAC approved, the red Everlast.
Edit: TEAM CORNFLAKE :boxing:
And that's the thing I don't like. Commission approved the red pair, contract state that Maidana can use any approved glove. End of story.
I think it's just an attempt to get Maidana into Grant gloves and get him off of his game mentally. Their tactics lead eager fans into thinking that they know 150% that a guy is trying to cheat when in fact, there is no proof at all. They need to be careful that they don't get sued for defamation of character.
How do you feel about them demanding another boxer not wear gloves that have been approved for use by the governing commission?
I would feel the same ONLY IF Nevada Commission didn't agree with Mayweather and didn't tell Maidana's team those Blue MX gloves are unacceptable. They didn't "not approve" a already approved glove, they just won't allow Maidana to use those Blue MX because of lack of padding.
Now if Nevada took Floyd's side and said Maidana could only uses Grants, like Floyd, I would say there's a lawsuit coming because of what was in contract stating Maidana can use any approved gloves he wants.
115-113 Mayweather
I had it 115-113 for Mayweather. Competitive fight, close middle rounds I can see a draw as well.
