Totally TRUE. GGG would NOT have beaten HAGLER. Hagler was much tougher and resilient than GGG and could switch stances at will. His stamina was phenomenal.
Lemieux to shock GGG
There you have it. i have been saying all along that Lemieux will shock GGG. And he will in a brutal, decisive fashion. GGG, whom I like very much, is in for a big surprise. Lemieux is both faster and hits harder than him. And he is also fearless. Put the Lemieux of today against the same Rubio and he would eat him alive. And I don't even think Rubio himself would dispute this.
Of course, Lemieux has has 31 KOs all by chance... ANd, no doubt, GGG's victory against feathered touch Monroe was extraordinary... Give me a break! GGG will be tested hard... He is going to be tagged by Lemieux since the Kazakh has a poor defense. In fact, I believe his still is most suited for Lemieux aggression. Very technical but slow as a snail and very hittable as seen in the Monroe fight. Lemieux has sometime difficulty with slick boxers such as N'Dam but not against flat footed ones... Lemieux will take this one...
Of course, but it was the young Lemieux - 21 years old - relying solely on power. If you recall, he brutally mauled Rubio for 5 rounds until he ran out of gas in the 7th. Hagler also lost in his younger days as Martinez against Marguarito. Lemieux is now trained to fight 12 hard rounds and to pace himself intelligently. He understands now that not ALL fighters put in front of him will go to sleep as soon as he lands a bomb on them. Lemieux would fight Rubio very differently today than when they met 3 years ago. Rubio, who had infinitely more experience than Lemieux back then, knew that he only had to sustain the fury of Lemieux early on in the fight with the hope that he would get exhausted... and that's exactly what happened. Lemieux is a much improved and matured animal now at 25. Also, he has been sparring on a regular basis with world class fighter such Jean Pascal, Martinez, etc... I personally would give NO chance whatsoever to Quillin to defeat Lemieux...
Poor Loefler
Poor Loefler... the only problem is that Lemieux and GGG will come out of this fight on top... I truly like and respect GGG for his courage and humble personality... But he will be facing a savage werewolf in the ring on October 17... a beast who will have sharpened his skills in sparring with the likes of Artur Beterbiev, Jean Pascal, etc... GGG seems to be nervous about facing Lemieux, not the reverse. Lemieux has absolutely no heart beat increase facing the Kazakh.
Lemieux to upset GGG
GGG won`t be dictating any pace. Yes, he might be more experienced and durable than Lemieux... but Lemieux will absolutely not allow GGG to dictate the tempo of the fight... He will enter the ring as a bull and will either be killed by the matador kazakh or trample on him... Lemieux will fight on his term and certainly not on GGG`s terms. Wait and see.
Lemieux is NOT a class B fighter
It is not because GGG is a class A+ fighter that Lemieux is a class B. With or without GGG, Lemieux should still be considered one of the three best middleweight out there. I believe that Lemieux will give Canelo or Saunders a solid beating. Smith, until he was caught by Canelo, gave him all kinds of problems throughout the fight. For Pete`s sake, put Amir Khan in the ring with Lemieux and see what happens... The undertaker is called within 30 seconds... GGG, Lemieux and Jacobs are the best middleweights, period.
Beterbiev - A pure talent
I believe that Beterbiev would demolish Ward in the ring... Beterbiev is smart, unpredictable, and possesses dynamite in both fists... Remember that he beat Kovalev (who beat Ward by at least 3 rounds) TWICE in the amateur ranks... Yes, he lacks professional experience but he makes it up in determination, ferocity and game plan variations... The guy is a scholar and a thinker... He is the future of the light heavyweight division... and as exciting to watch as GGG .
Mayweather the conman
Pacquiao fought with 1 arm both Mayweather and NSAC the night he fought the conman billionaire... With spies in Pacquiao's camp on top of this... What a disgrace...
As GGG said in a recent video, his opponent can dance or be quicker than him... until they get hit... Then all changes. I see a 1% chance for Jacobs to upset GGG... even if the latter had a terrible and sluggish fight against Brook...
Lemieux vs GGG
I also believe that Lemieux possesses more explosive power than GGG. That being said, one does NOT simply win a boxing match by power alone. Lemieux lost to GGG because Golovkin is a smarter, better technical fighter. If Lemieux ever face GGG again, he would have to completely change his strategic approach in fighting GGG. He would NOT win a pure boxing contest against GGG but he COULD win a slugfest. Consequently, if he is capable of slugging it out with Golovkin, he cold potentially nail him since GGG is very hittable. He cannot allow GGG to dictate the pace of the fight with his jab like he did the first time. Lemieux must have a better timing in charging him. By the way, Lemieux would beat Canelo or Saunders.
Beterbiev and Lemieux
You guys should all remember that Lemieux spars 12 rounders constantly in Montreal with Artur Beterbiev, a light heavyweight assassin. A guy who beat Kovalev twice in the amateur ranks and a future star of boxing. Skill wise and power wise, Beterbiev is superior to GGG. Quite frankly, I was far from impressed with GGG`s last fight against Monroe after he got hit repeatedly in the face by a powerless coward. He will hit a cement wall in Lemieux. I guarantee you this.
Jacobs won this one by 2 points in my opinion. But he should have been more aggressive or forcefulk. Some judges will be reluctant to dethrone a champion if his challenger is backpedaling (which Jacobs was often doing).
Limited fighter
More than a weight or size issue, Abraham showed that he is a limited fighter solely relying on punching power. Slow, predictable and incapable of any adjustment/creativity during a fight.
GGG will be tested too
Let us see how GGG handles Lemieux' power also. It is one thing to give but another to receive. The thing is GGG does NOT have the best defense. The odds for him not to get hit flush by Lemieux are remote. I think this fight boils down to who is going to take the brutal punches better. Lemieux also has a good chin. Even the fight he lost against Rubio almost 5 years ago was due to exhaustion and not to the fact that he was knocked out. If GGG dispatches Lemieux pretty much the same way he did with other fighters, then we will know that we have somebody incredibly special, a future great of boxing. Honestly, I feel that both Sanchez and GGG are underestimating Lemieux' power and determination. Whether or not the Matador GGG will slay the Bull Lemieux remains to be seen. I was personally not impressed with GGG's victory over Monroe. From the 3-5 rounds he fought horribly and was even a bit embarrassed by pillow fisted Monroe (who GGG mocked to that effect by saying that Monroe "was nothing"). I just don't see GGG standing up if Lemieux cracks him like Monroe did. Anyhow, this is a fight for the ages. I am still pulling for the Canadian to upset the Kazakh. Hope the fight is close until the brutal ending so we can all have another treat by having these same 2 warriors going at it again in the future.
Lemieux will win this one
Honestly, I think that most folks are sleeping on Lemieux. The odds makers - and Sanchez - are underestimating Lemieux. None of GGG had enough power to keep him honest and at bay. Lemieux is a different animal. Also, as Hopkins pointed out Lemieux is faster than GGG. No doubt the Kazazh has good timing and precision, but in a fight of this magnitude speed and power will be a lethal combination. One can clearly on videos that Lemieux' combinations are faster than GGG. He is too wild on some of his punches but still, faster. GGG will hit a brick wall on the 17th. How is he going to react to it? The important thing for Lemieux, whether he wins or loses, is to look good and strong in the fight even if he ends up losing. If he knocks down GGG and gives him the fight of his life, his career won`t be damaged. In fact, people will respect him more. Anyhow, I surprisingly go with Lemieux on this one.
Lemieux to shock GGG
I have been following Lemieux for about 7-8 years. I am quite confident that contrary to most boxing commentators, Lemieux will give GGG a night to remember. How ridiculous to hear that GGG will just get rid of Lemieux in 2-3 rounds or will kill him whenever he wishes. How ludicrous. GGG could not even achieve this with powerless B class fighters. The 21 year old Lemieux who 5 years ago fought Rubio, was an undisciplined, ill trained, ****y and immature fighter. The Lemieux GGG will face in 2 weeks, will rock the latter to his foundation. Lemieux is no Murray or Geale, and the good nature Goliath will be brutally reminded about it. Lemieux to upset GGG.
Lemieux: A new Mike Tyson
If Lemieux guard himself against GGG's uppercuts, and left hook to the body, I believe that he will defeat GGG. Strange that nobody has mentioned the fact that it is very obvious that Lemieux has faster hands than GGG. This will be, I opine, of great importance in this fight. He is also more energetic. Has anyone seen GGG fighting on the back foot? How will he adapt to Lemieux's constant pressure? Let's wait and see. All in all, it certainly won't be a cake walk for GGG as some folks would want us to believe.
Lemieux
The comment from Arum about Lemieux being hit too much is true... and false. It was false in his fight against Stevens but true in his bout against GGG. GGG is better than Lemieux because he possesses an overall greater technical game. What about GGG getting hit at will? Monroe, Brooks, etc... Even Stevens had his moments with him. He can get away with it because he has a granite chin and quasi superhuman strength... I just watched an 18 min. French interview with Lemieux on Radio-Canada in which he admitted taking chances (of being hit) because he wants to give a good show to the public... What a difference compared to Mayweather and others...
The fact that GGG has 400 amateur fights is not conclusive... I remember the Hilton brothers in Canada who were very decorated fighters with practically no defeats in the amateur ranks... Two of those brothers, Dave and Matthew became world champions... and then got cracked by someone who could care less about their amateur background. To fight with a head gear in the amateur against teenage power punchers is one thing... to get hit square in the face by Lemieux on October 17 is quite another... Quite frankly, my only concern about Lemieux losing this fight is for him to fade in the last 2 rounds and get caught by GGG... The commentaries about Lemieux simply don`t match even Golovkin`s own admitted fear about facing the Canadian slugger. everything I hear is that Lemieux is a white version of Stevens who will be a mere sparring partner for GGG. After GGG gets beaten, the same folks will say that GGG got exposed... as Ali got exposed against Frazier or Norton... Sure... At least, be fair...
Utterly delusional... we`ll talk after the fight to see who got dropped in 4 rounds
4 rounds, that is all.
Utterly delusional... we`ll talk after the fight to see who got dropped in 4 rounds
He was stopped by Rubio when he was 21 years old... after he gassed out... The Lemieux of today is a monster compared to 5 years ago... His own trainer admits this... Wait and see.
Lemieux will win against GGG
My money is on Lemieux to defeat GGG. One key factor in this fight is that GGG never fought any fighter - including Stevens who was too short and technically deficient - who could get his respect. What would have happened in the 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds if Willie Monroe had Lemieux' power? How many times did he tag GGG? Lemieux is clearly faster and more explosive than GGG. He even beat the fast Guerrero to the punch with his left hand. Speed AND brutal force is a lethal combination. Of course, Lemieux can be wide with his looping right hand and susceptible to uppercuts - but I think that Lemieux will often beat GGG to the punch. Yes, GGG is an intelligent fighter with accuracy... but he is quite slow... If Abel Sanchez thinks that Stevens - who was easily defeated and even knocked down by N'Dam who himself was floored 4 times by Lemieux in his last fight - is a stronger puncher than David, he is in for a shocker. Goliath or not, GGG is going to be in there with a beast who has no fear whatsoever of him...
Lemieux to be a dominant fighter in years to come
I've been following Lemieux for several years. There is no doubt in my mind that Lemieux is the most brutal puncher since the days of the young Tyson. With a bit more polishing to his technique and greater experience, he will DOMINATE the middleweight division as Marvin Hagler did in the 80's for a long time.
GGG will pull a "PIROG" on Jacobs
Some say that Jacobs is faster than GGG. True. But many were until they were laying on their back. I predict that GGG will pull a PIROG on Jacobs (Pirog knocked him out a few years ago), and knock him out cold. The problem is that Danny does NOT have the greatest punch resistance and that ANY punch form GGG can be the unraveling of him. And
Trouble for GGG
GGG is in trouble... Lemieux will unleash hell on GGG and the latter knows it... Lemieux' speed will surprise GGG... Both GGG and Lemieux' defense are not great... So, no advantage for either fighters... GGG himself admitted that Lemieux was a serious test for him... And it shall be so...
What I realize about American boxing fans - I'm a Canadian who has been living in Dallas for 10 years - is that they know very little about how boxers are being trained in Montreal. I keep listening about folks reference to Lemieux's fight against Rubio. First, Lemieux turned professional at 18 (with practically no amateur background) and faced Rubio at 22. Back then, he relied solely on his power to take care of business in early rounds with a conditioning, life style and nutrition that were highly deficient. If you remember the first 6 rounds of the Rubio's fight, it was all Lemieux... Rubio swallowed up the shots... and Lemieux repeated Foreman's ill advised game plan against Ali. He got exhausted and Rubio took advantage of it. Lemieux is now a different animal... highly conditioned to be explosive throughout 12 rounds. In fact, we saw in the Rosado fight that Lemieux was still very active and landing hard shots in the 10th round when the fight was stopped. Finally, bear in mind that Lemieux trains at the GYM gym with Marc Ramsay and constantly spars 12 rounders with the likes of Jean Pascal, Artur Beterbiev (who beat Kovalev twice in the amateur ranks and just demolished Tavoris Cloud in 2 rounds), Alvarez, etc... ALL light heavyweights ex-champion (Pascal) or respected contenders... In other words, Lemieux spars with guys that are 15-20 lbs heavier than himself and cannot put them down... but still goes 12 rounds with them... So, he is used to spar with guys 12 rounds when he is not having his way with them. With some more polishing in defense (especially against left uppercuts), GGG will have his hands full with the pretty beast from Canada..
