Earlier this week an article ran on BoxingScene.com in which Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya said that David Lemieux will represent knockout artist Gennady Golovkin's first true test in the pro ranks.
Golovkin has developed a large cult following with his knockout power and "Mexican Style" mantra but thus far has been unable to lure any big names into the ring with him.
“A lot of people are sleeping on Lemieux. I was in Canada the other day. This guy is looking sharp. He’s looking very, very sharp, very fast, very strong, so it’s going to be quite interesting who wins that one," De La Hoya said. "I think this is Triple G’s first test ever in his career, so we’ll see if he passes."
BoxingScene.com recently spoke to Lemieux to get his reaction to De La Hoya's comments. The ever confident Canadian agreed with his promoter's sentiments.
"I think that De La Hoya is a very smart man. He knows what he is talking about. He has been in the game a very long time. The team of Golovkin doesn't know that I am going to be the best test of Golovkin. I think they are underestimating the abilities that I bring to the table. But talk is cheap. I am not going to say anything.
"On October 17th I will show the world what I got and I got a lot. Every fight I have been getting better and better. I took care of Guerrero, then Rosado then I took N'Dam out. Those are three very significant opponents. I did that pretty well. Come October 17th I will be very ready for this fight," said Lemieux.
Golovkin-Lemieux takes place at the sold out Madison Square Garden arena and will be distributed by HBO pay-per-view. Lemieux guaranteed that the fight will be worth every penny.
"October 17th I am going to make history and put on an amazing show. The fans will see an amazing show," Lemieux told BoxingScene.com.
