Wwe?
The knockout was legal, but it can be argued a cheap shot.
But that whold sequence looks so WWE where everything is stage. A wrestler hits his opponent with a chair while the refree is distraced to ocurrence outside the ring, then regain focus to countout the fowled wrestler. Too funny.
But Ortiz should've learnt from the Mosley fight where Floyd punched him on he kisser when he tried to touch gloves.
Why didn't the Ortiz camp complain?
They got their couple of million- all smiles, off to surf. There's nothing fishy going on here, no sir. Move along, move along. Floyd got that easy money from easy work. Ortiz riding that surf board. Nothing suspect at all. Move along, move along.
They were trying to catch the midnight check cashing...hehehe
Froch's condition was superb. He certainly was in second gear throughout the fight. Froch had great energy throughout the fight and is exciting to watch. But I gotta pull for SOG Ward to take the Super Six title. These two guys dominates the super middleweight division, and are proven goods, unlike Lucian Bute.
What's preventing Carl from upgrading his living accomodations. Bloody cheapscake..hehehe. Hope his body has been getting good rest to deal with what Johnson brings.
Like Arum keep on saying, guys like Gary Shaw are not real promoters. They broker fights to the networks. Bradley is a great fighter, but is not known to the casual boxing fans. People know more of JunaMa and Brandon Rios than they do Timothy Bradley and Paul Williams, who I belive possess better skills.
Alexander will be Great Again!
I was very impressed with Devon Alexander on Saturday night. The fight was a close one, and I thought Devon pulled it off. The rounds Mattyysse won, he won convincingly, with sheer power and aggression. However, it wasn't sustained throughout the bout, and Alexander stole the close rounds.
But the reason I'm impress with Alexander is took a very very tough, avoidable opponent on his comeback fight after a defeat where his heart was questioned. Fighters don't do that anymore. When Victor Ortiz heart was checked by Maidana, he took a few soft fights to regain confidence, and he's now on the cusp of greatness. Most elite fighters take two-three soft fights after a major win or lost. Alexander refused to go that route, and for that alone, he merits great respect. It's not like he folded in the match either. He won the 9th round convincingly, when earlier he took a beating from Mattyysee.
Paul Williams is another fighter that should be respected for taking a dangerous fight on his comeback. But that's the way it ought to be. This is prizefighting, not some beauty pageant. Today's fighters just wants to be pampered.
I'm not a boxing expert, but I think Ward adapts really well, and will beat everyone in the superfight, and then school Bute, who has beeing beating second string figthers recently.
Martinez was not robbed. Paul Williams won the fight by one round. The issue in contention is the egregious scoring of one judge.
Aside of all the judges scoring, one of the best fight of the year!!
Dirrell was busting up Abraham thru 11 rounds. That's a fact. Whether Abraham would've been able to get the knockout in the last rounds is debatable. What is fact, is Abraham showed his thugish side with that asinine "Heez a guud aktur" comment. The good actor claim is also debatable. So the night was looking really good for Andre Dirrell. AA needed a KO, or chance it with a flagrant foul. He gamble and lost! That's a fact.
Horrible article
I am damn good at my job, but my co-worker thinks I am in his way of a good job title and pay increase. I should resign, put my family in peril, and let him fulfill his dream.
Worst analysis I have read!!
Kudos to the Showtime brass for getting this show to this point, and keeping it interesting. We have seem some very compelling matches. We have seen paper champion (Abraham) exposed and future star (SOG Ward) born. We were given insights into how difficult it is to makes matches with the diva-like characters involved in boxing. That is why these matches were even more compelling. Also, closure for the bantamweight championship is in sight. Can't wait for Showtime to announce the next tourney. And...oh yeah..we understand now what a great achievement it is when anyone can get these fighting princess to fight, much less finish a tournament.
Peterson recently refused a Khan's offer to fight. One would've thought he's in the running for a Mayweather or Pacquiao showdown. I wonder what he's getting for this fight. Peterson like Judah, claimed Khan priced himself out, yet Khan, in the meantime, has the star power and interest of major networks.
I was rooting for Paulie to win as redemption for what happened to him in Houston. He boxed and end on the right side of the decision. But after his performance in the 6th round, I am really turned off. He had his man stung, and started to Mickey Mouse rather than go for the kill. The event was so funny I thought I was watching a skit from Saturday Night Live on NBC. Malignaggi's clowing is now too unbearable and I wouldn't like to see him in a fight again.
Juan Diaz should now focus on the LSATs, and heat out to Law school.
Yea but Khan needs a legit opponent right not tbh,Maidana was a good opponent but let's be honest..Maidana never was a Champion and is a very limited fighter..Judah has skill packs a punch and is accomplished this is the fight Khan needs right now..50/50 is fair or at least 55/45..
Judah is the most irrelevant beltholder right now, and was insignifant before gaining his strap. He fought Matthysse on HBO and won, but HBO preffered to pay Matthysse for another HBO appearance. I grant, Judah has been doing the right thing to make himself relevant again. But, he's not in a position to make demands. Seems like he's trying to duck Khan by asking for more than his current worth is. Should he fight and beat Khan, he'd be the man at 140 and the sky would be the limit. Wake up Zab...stop ducking.
Man Froch has been winning me over after the Dirrell fight. The guy is a beast. Even when Glen Johnson caught him with some clean hard punches, Froch made sure to come right back and answered with a series of combinations that neutralized everything Johnson did. He did this all night long...and what a granite chin!
116-112, better of the scores.
I believe the US money in question is the money HBO has given to Khan to fight whomever..they approve. Their is no conflict on who is generating the UK PPV. So if the issue becomes that Judah is a big name..draw, then let him keep the US gate money and figure out the split with the promoters. I'd say, "Mr. Judah, big US draw, sir, keep the US gate earnings all to yourself. I, Khan, will keep the HBO and UK PPV monies." :boxing:
Valero was amazing especially with the early adversity he had to overcome, and to dominate the fight like that. First time I saw him fight, and I've become a fan. Can't wait to see him fight again.
Good god he’s a tough old goat that Johnson.
Congrats Carl and also congrats has to go to the showtime producers for only having a camera and not a microphone near Rachael.
...and keeping her away from the Showtime announcing team.
Sadly, but it evident that homecooking occurs all the time in Boxing, especially in very competitive fights, the close rounds goes to the local fighter. The rounds Lucas won were undisputed, he won it going away. But in the fight in St. Louis last night, they were many close rounds. I'm not surprise or upset Alexander got the decision. You cannot beat your opponent really badly for 3-4 rounds but lost the remaining rounds and expect to win the fight.
Lucas Mattyysse was offered a premature stoppage (many considered in the worst stoppage in a while) when he fought Vivian Harris in Mexico a few years ago. I'm not condoning bad decisions, stoppages, but I don't remember hearing Lucas saying his fight with Harris was inconclusive and he would give him a rematch. Harris was chasing Mattyysse for a rematch for an entire year!
Carl Froch has been backing up his words the past few fights. So when Froch speaks, pay attention. Andre "SOG" Ward is my favorite to win the Super 6 tournament though.
Garcia and Rios apologized, and in another article, Margarito denied doing anything wrong. This guy, Margarito, is living in denial. He just cannot man it up and accept wrongdoing.
What I believe is happening is Shaw is trying to extend Bradley's contract incumbent on his taking the fight with Khan. Pretty much what Golden Boy was trying to do with Juan Manuel Marquez for taking a fight with Erik Morales. So Bradley will sit idle and allow his contract to expire.
So it is Khan's interest to find another opponent and go ahead with his July/August fight, considering he will be inactive during the month of Ramadan.
Now on the grander scheme of things, had Bradley taken the fight with Khan and win, he'd be a cinch to fight Manny Pacquiao if he beats Juan Manuel Marquez. Should Floyd Mayweather surface and take a fight with Manny Pacquiao on the first saturday of May 2012, then they both will retire, which would make Bradley's greatest chance of a payday...Khan.
Consider if HBO and Showtime refuse to air matches like Bute/Magee, Chavez/Zebeak like Sky refusing Khan/McCloskey, Khan/Judah. We, the fans, would be treated to much more intriguing mathes more often.
Clearly differrent people watching the same match, so different things.
The way I saw it, Khan was putting on a show of superior skills for the first 7 rounds. Maidana couldn't touch Khan. Khan was explosive with 5-6 combinations. Khan, perhaps wanting to see how his chin withstand to Maidana's punches, allows Maidana to hit him with uppercuts. The only Maidana success for Maidana came in the mid rounds when Khan was against the ropes and Maidana was touching him up with uppercuts. Then Khan takes over and hit him with 4-6 combos.
The only time I thought Khan could lose the fight from that point was in the 10th round when Maidana caught him with an over the top punch. There was over a minute and a half on the clock. Enough to put Khan away. This is where my admiration for Khan grew. He weather that beautifully, and if he had thrown back power shots, he could've even put Maidana away.
The 11 and 12 rounds saw Maidana coming after Khan, but his money shots wasn't paying dividends. And, when Khan let his hands go (which was too few and rare in the final 2 rounds), he was having great success. He could've put Maidana down.
But for comparison purposes, Khan put Maidana down in the first rounds. Had there been more time on the clock, the fight would not have made it to the second round. Maidana had Khan wobbly in the 10th round with over a minute and a half, and clearly vulnerable, but was firing away wild shots.
Maidana has had success from constant pressure and wild punches. He clearly didn't have the tools to put his punches together and close the show.
Khan could've put Maidana away in the late rounds if he wasn't getting caught by the uppercuts so often. Hope he learns something after watching the tapes.
Will Give Epix another look..
I signed up for Epix 2 hours before the fight. I watched a movie with no issue. Then at 5pm, EST, all bets were off. I spent 25 minutes trying to get the fight to no avail. I found another means and watched without interruption. Unfortunately, 50 minutes of trying to get the fight...and the fight ended before I uncorked my bud. But I was impressed with what I saw from Solis. He wasn't afraid of Klitschko like all the previous opponents I saw. He appeared to be landing some shots.
