DiBella Entertainment held a press conference on Saturday afternoon at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. The Argentine is coming off a thrilling one punch knockout of Paul Williams.
Lou DiBella said that they are hoping Martinez's next fight will be a big one. He went on to say that he doesn't know if Martinez's tremendous knockout over Williams will help per hinder his effort to land the big fight.
"Obviously we want a big fight for Sergio. At the same time we aren't going to beg anybody," DiBella said.
DiBella went on to say that if they can't secure a big pay per view fight versus the likes of Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather that they were going to talk to HBO about Martinez getting three appearances on the premium network next year.
"If we can't get one of the pay per view fights we will talk to HBO's Kery Davis to see if we can get Sergio on three times next year. Sergio is only going to fight for another couple years so we want to maximize his opportunities."
Martinez has ample ammunition to get 3 appearances on the premium network. Martinez-Williams 2 was HBO's second highest rated boxing card of the year.
"Martinez's win over Paul Williams was HBO's second highest rated boxing show of the year and it came within a whisker of being the highest rated. People want to see knockouts and after last Saturday's knockout people will definitely want to see more of Sergio," said an animated Lou DiBella.
