We all know McGregor can punch. That is no secret. We also know that, in order for McGregor to knock Floyd out, he needs to hit him. Not saying he won't be able to, just saying it'll be a difficult task even for a fighter of his caliber. We've seen Floyd in the ring with some pretty big punchers going back a **** ton of years. Corrales, Castillo, Judah, DLH, Hatton, Mosley, Maidana, Cotto, Alvarez, Pacquiao to name a few, have all been considered at one time or another to be BIG punchers. Floyd got hit by all the aforementioned fighters and was able to come out triumphant after each of those fights, sometimes making those fights look "easy". Now, is it fair to assume that McGregor can't hurt Floyd? No. Absolutely not since every fighter brings a whole new set of tools that make them all different. But, seeing the experience that Floyd has by having fought 47 different fighters with different styles, I can't help but continue to give the edge to Floyd. I wouldn't say Connor can't beat Floyd but I'll say I don't think Connor can't beat Floyd. Can't see a scenario where Floyd loses this fight. I guess we'll all find out on Saturday night...
I have got to say Salido has guts to come to PR and beat Juanma and now Rocky. I'm Puertorrican but I follow boxing recognizing good fighter.
I second that... Being Puertorican, I have a difficult time not rooting for our fighters. Having said that, Orlando "Siri" Salido is a BAD MAN!!! I don't care who he fights, this dude doesn't have fights. He has WARS!!! He's fun as hell to watch and this should be a hell of a treat for ALL the fans!!! I would like for Rocky to take this one but wouldn't be surprised if Salido beat Rocky... badly!
Mayfield has fought a few guys with power but, not enough for me to be concerned or impressed by his record. Alot of "feather fisted" fighters on that record of his... Dulorme by KO in 7.
Not a big fan of Danny but I really can't hate on the dude. He comes to fight and, so far, appears to be doing the right things to place himself near the top of the division. Having said that, there's something missing. He looked bad against Herrera, he looked bad against Peterson, and for the first five (maybe 6) rounds was looking kind of lost against Guerrero. He DID however make the necessary adjustments and won the fight fair and square. Maybe a new trainer? As he progresses, the competition will continue to improve and things need to improve for him as well. His athletic ability is undeniable but he can not continue to get by with just that. Good luck to him and his family because, from now on, the road to the top of the Welterweight division will not be getting any easier for him. Another thing... 154? That'll be a tough sell given that his power does not appear to have carried on into even the 147 division. Again, good luck on his career and future endeavors.
Dulorme walks around at 150-155 so dropping down to 140 should not be that big a problem. I didn't like the fact that his team chose Abregu as an opponent based on Abregu's performance against Tim Bradley, his ring experience, as well as his KO percentage. I think he can rebuild his career but, for now, he needs a confidence boosting fight. He's a cool cat and all and, at just 22, he's got a good head on his shoulders. I just wish his team did too...
When you're at that level and have only fought top opposition in order to unify belts, I believe he can fight whomever he wants as a "stay busy" fight. We've already seen how ring rust ruins fights and makes these "boxing gods" look vulnerable. Inoue IMHO can fight a garbage can for all I care and, should the fight take place in Japan, you best believe I'll wake up early for that one. Inoue is a must watch fighter and, at this point, he's the "A" side. The knockdown against Luis Nery was something I'm CERTAIN he learned from as he showed in the following rounds where he simply DOMINATED. A master class in defeating fear, hell of a recovery time, great boxing with speedy, well placed combos, and, eventually, a nasty KO. Great fight for Inoue! Dude is on another level. Dude is FEARLESS!!!
Verdejo looking like his usual self. And, while he continues to struggle against "lesser" opponents, Christopher "Pitufo" Diaz keeps looking better. If he keeps fighting like this, Pitufo will earn a World Title before Verdejo even looks at one. At this point, Verdejo would get pummeled by any of the champions in this division. Something VERY drastic needs to happen in his corner if he wants to keep his championship dreams alive.
Dulorme been looking good in the gym, really curious to see what happens once Hard Hitta touches that chin. Will his eyes roll to the back of his head like they did against Abregu or will he take them well? All depends on his chin, cause the boys got skills.
I'm curious as well but I still think (IMO) it might just be a tad different this time. Abregu is a welterweight as opposed to Mayfield who is a junior welter who, although he also has heavy hands, physically, Dulorme is much bigger. What if Dulorme touches Mayfield's chin? Will Mayfield be able to withstand Dulorme's punches? I like Dulorme to win this fight, specially since he's now training with Robert Garcia. Garcia has proven to be one hell of a trainer who has been able to strengthen his boxer's strong assets as well as improve their weaknesses. Both fighters have something to prove and this is a great stage for them to do so. May the best man win!
Tito said this while taking food to a town called Comerio and he was asked jokingly "Where's your hurricane relief fight Tito?" and, if it were to happen, who he would like his foe to be. He said he'd fight Oscar since he believed that everyone always wanted that rematch and it would drum up some publicity. It would be an exhibition and, seeing the great need on the Island, I'm all for it. Tito has had some financial troubles, yes. No doubt about that. But one thing very few people know is that Tito does a hell of a lot of charity work on the Island and he does it without press. He's not in it for financial gain or publicity. He does it because, unlike most politicians, he truly cares. We're talking about the same guy who volunteered to help in NYC immediately following the attacks on the WTC back in September 11th, 2001 while he was in NYC for his fight with Bernard Hopkins. There's a reason he's a beloved figure in Puerto Rico. At this point in time, whatever anyone can do to help is welcomed. I've been to Puerto Rico since Maria hit. I've seen the damage, the relief efforts and, therefore, I've also seen the need for help. Matter of fact, going back next week to continue to help as best as I can. Anyways, I urge all those who can help in any way to do so. Maybe this may not be the right forum to ask for help but, at this time, any platform is as good as the next.
Unless he learns defense, the outcome will be the same. I remember telling my wife (during the second round of the fight) how Juanma was having a very Cotto-Margarito-esque performance and allowing himself to be hit alot more than he should have. The K.O. was inevitable and, had the ref not stoppped the fight, he would have gotten K.O'd in that same round or in Rd 9. I waited for Juanma to pull off a Tito Trinidad-like performance and rise from the canvas to K.O Salido but, unfortunately for Juanma that was not the case. Props to Salido 'cause he fought the right fight at the right time. Juanma... better luck (and defense) next time... You'll need it!
Lmao paro ain’t some bum don’t be surprised if he beats your boy
He might not be a bum, but he's about to find out REAL quick that Matias is something else. Subriel esta en otro nivel. I just hope we get a good show down here in Manati. Tomorrow, WE win as fans! Hell of a night for boxing fans!!! We got Gervonta, Benavidez, Subriel vs Paro, Adames... Hell of a night for fans!!! BTW... Subriel Matias by KO in 8.
They're talking about Berlanga possibly being ready for Benavidez in a year. Not even close. Benavidez would knock Berlanga out in three rounds or less. I think we've all seen Berlanga being dropped in sparring by Erickson Lubin (154 pounds) with bigger gloves and head gear. His defensive flaws are MASSIVE. To be honest, I have no idea how he got so big. The early knockouts maybe? Perhaps. But, to a fan like myself, I'm not sold now nor have I been sold on him from the get-go. Not a hater. Just someone who, like most, has seen how they have tried selling us this young man as though he'll be the next PR star. Me personally, I believe much more in Subriel Matías and think he stands more of a chance of becoming the next "Campeón Puertorriqueño". This fight with Rolls will not show us more than we already know. He might not be "garbage" but he's definitely not Championship bound.
You act like Mora won
Jacobs got off the floor and stopped him....just like Tito did plenty times.
I'm sure I don't have to remind you how many times Tito has been dropped....hurt....and wobbled.
You have a point and I agree. Also, even as a Trinidad fan I know for a fact that, had Tito fought "GGG" (both in their prime) and had gotten hit like that by "GGG", Tito would've been "Pirog'd" too. I'm a big Tito Trinidad fan, but I'm not that blind to not comprehend that "GGG" is on another level. Saludos my friend.
Remember the fight like it was last night. I get a kick out of Winky Wright in the back ground waving for Corrales to jump on Castillo:boxing:
Yeap. Winky and James Toney were in the crowd yelling for Corrales to finish Castillo. What a fight!!! Probably the best fight I've ever seen in my life. Also, I remember the late great Nick Charles and Al Bernstein doing the fight commentary for Showtime. All in all, a GREAT fight!!! RIP Diego "Chico" Corrales ðŸ™
I had the fight a draw myself (113-113) and felt as though it really could've gone either way. GREAT FIGHT!!!! Both showed what being a World Champion is all about. Awesome fight!!! No complaints from me. Not that it matters, of course... lol
Earn your shot like everybody else.
One win after a disappointing career doesn't put you next in line.
I agree. I'm Puerto Rican and I'm ALL about my guys but, I'm also realistic. Honestly, the fact that he knocked Madera out so quick, only allowed us to see very few of his attributes. Is his power there? Will he fold when/if his power isn't enough to dispatch an opponent? How is his stamina (IMO, one of his biggest problems)? I think he needs to be tested a few more times, against increasingly tougher opposition. Two, maybe three more fights before he even gets close to Teofimo Lopez, let alone Vasiliy Lomachenko AKA "La Bestia Pelua" (my guy Naldo "The Producer" used to call him that, lol).
¡Tiiiiiiito, Tiiiiiito, Tiiiiiiito! Tito is, in my opinion, how every fighter should be with his fans. Appreciative, humble, approachable, genuine, a great role model for the kids in Puerto Rico... Definitely someone to look up to. He's not press-hungry and when he goes to hospitals or does something for the kids, you don't ever see him with a public relations specialist or photographers or reporters. He's just kind and really seems to enjoy doing kind things for the people, the kids, the fans. Congrats Mr. Félix "Tito" Trinidad on your newest well deserved, hard earned achievement! Puerto Rico and all your fans are VERY proud of you!!!
Do your thang Champ! Time to take TOTAL control of your career and, at this stage in your career, take the right fights for you. No more fights like the $30,000 fiasco that was your trip to Indonesia to fight Chris John. Granted that, at this point, a fifth fight with Pacquiao would represent the BIGGEST purse in your career but... hey, some people are driven by money and some are driven by achievements. If a fight with Bradley is what you want in order to secure a fifth divisional championship then so be it. IMO, a very good fight anyways.
Can't hate on Canelo Álvarez. At all. People will go on about how he won't fight Charlo or whomever else but, here he goes fighting someone none of these other guys would even dare do a press conference with. That, imho, takes some "cojones". Bivol is a guy that Canelo will have some serious issues with and yet, they chose him for whatever reason. Hope they put together a nice undercard for this fight but I'll still watch regardless.
Deontay gave us some good highlight reel ko's. Congratulations to him on a good career! His skinny legs always made me cringe because I've always believed a good boxer is built on a solid foundation. He built a solid career on some great matchmaking and I won't hate on that. Zhang did great in applying pressure throughout the whole fight and, just as Wilder began to throw his right hand, BOOM!!! Great right hooks, the first being a glancing shot that stunned and spun Wilder around, and the second after the spin. FLUSH right hook to the face!!! I was surprised Wilder got up after that shot. Anyways... Great card thanks in large part to HE Turki Alalshik and the willingness of two promoters who were trying out a new concept. Run it back!!!
This guy is delusional. His ego is his biggest flaw. He really doesn't get it that people here in PR know he's not as good as he thinks he is. Props to him for having self belief but, he's nowhere near of deserving a fight against Canelo Ãlvarez. While I love the whole "Puerto Rico vs Mexico" thing, this is not a fight anyone I know wants to see happen unless it's because, for the most part, here in PR we want to see him getting his ass handed to him. I don't know a single person here in Humacao (I can't speak for every person in every town in PR) who's a Berlanga fan. Just the truth as I and many others see it.
Another great week.
Anyone know if Showtime Extreme is still doing showtime undercards?
I checked the schedule and, apparently no under card fights on Showtime Extreme. HBO starts their telecast slightly earlier at 8:30pm EST while Showtime begins theirs at 9:00pm EST.
I think Doniare is the one being a prima donna about this whole fight, always whining about something. As for the bark dogs don't bite, I assume that is a Cuban idiom that doesn't translate well to English.
Whoever translated for Rigo didn't do a good job translating the phrase "perro que ladra, no muerde". He should've said something like "talk is cheap" or something similar. Can't wait for this fight though! It'll be a great fight for as long as it lasts. Both are fast, both have power and both are currently at the top of their game.
That's amazingly good for a non cashcow fighters on Showtime. Not long ago Ward got sub 500k on the Super Six final.
As good as Ward is, he is still not a very popular fighter. Unless of course you're a hard core boxing fan. But to the casual fan, S.O.G. is an unknown. That's why he only fights in California. Anywhere else, he wouldn't get an audience. Sad because it shouldn't be like that for a fighter of his caliber. Specially for a fighter who won a gold medal in the Olympics. SMH...
Cryan Garcia is soft. Ortiz jr would brutally put a end to his career:boxing:
Not that I don't like Garcia or anything (not a big fan but he's awesome for business) but, yeah,. An Ortiz KO would be vicious considering his defense against body shots is non existent. Ortiz can, just for shits and giggles as they say, go to Ryan's body from the get go and put Ryan away in 3, maybe 4 rounds. Now... Is Ryan ready for that kind of a beat down?
Make it happen!!!!!! That, as indicated by others in this forum, is DEFINITELY, 100%, FOTY candidate. Mexico-Puerto Rico fight between two scrappy, willing-to-engage fighters... Like I said earlier, MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!! To be honest, I'd rather pay for this fight than pay for the Cotto-Kirkland PPV. No disrespect to Miguel Cotto (or James Kirkland) but, their fight is NOT PPV worthy any way I look at it. Just my humble opinion.
