On the topic of hard punching boxers fighting in MMA, imagine the damage that Kovalev could do punching with 4 oz gloves. :scared:
If boxers went to mma there would be deaths every week with those 4 oz gloves.
lol zero chance he ever leaves boxing anyway, but it is cool sometimes to imagine our fav fighters fighting in UFC against those dudes. of course stand up would be fun to watch the ufc guys get pummeled but its unrealistic to think they could hang in there on the ground.
imagine ggg vs. johnny hendricks lol
He would need a few mma fights but no doubt GGG shatters Hendricks glass jaw.
Hendricks was knocked clean out by Phil Baroni in sparring. And Phil Baroni was a pr0n star before mma.
http://middleeasy.com/fighting/item/12663-phil-baroni-talks-about-the-time-when-he-knocked-out-johny-hendricks
Lol that was funny.
When was this filmed
Sometime up at big bear. I'm sure his grappling is even better now that bjj world champ is in his camp full time.
I've just moved back from living in Tokyo and let me tell you Asians don't cheer for fighters from different countries because their ethnically similar. Those countries don't like each other, In fact the biggest insult in Japan is to call someone Chinese. So nobody in Japan or China is going to get hyped for Golovkin, I doubt many in Korea would either as he's Kazakh first and foremost.
Plenty of non Filipino Asians support and supported Manny in China.
Golovkin will capture the hearts and minds of Asia.
Guys like you said GGG would never catch on in New York. Guess what he is selling out MSG now.
At the time. I will tell you now though, no boxer would be able to beat either Buentello or Duffee in an MMA match.
This whole thread is completely redicilous especially your posts.
Duffee and Buentello couldn't become champion when a WWE star dominated the sport.
Wake me up when Undertaker or Kane beat a HW boxer for a belt like Brock did to Randy Couture.
Brock was an accomplished wrestler in high school and college, on top of that he was a freakish athlete at a ripped 265lbs. His wrestling and ground and pound made him succesfull. A boxer only has his fists, they would never be able to do the same.
These are guys who have been grappling since a very young age, their muscle memory in their bodies are a result of thousands of hours of training over years. No one dimensional fist fighter can suddenly catch up within what was is it that you said, 6 months? LOL you idiot.
GGG has been grappling since very young. Learn to read and comprehend threads before ruining them with your MMA butthurt.
But go on, Explain to me how Reem is a legit MMA champion after beating Todd Duffee for a belt and Paul Buentello for a belt.
you said the fight was gonna happen.. it didnt. and theyre never gonna fight as long as jcc is with arum, ggg doesnt have enough fans for a million buys just stop
Selling out the main MSG, plus another devastating win over a top five middleweight he will be there.
HBO is boxing and HBO is Golovkin.
Golovkin is boxing
Wat...A lot of MMA fighters can take a punch. Ever seen Roy Nelson or Mark Hunt fight?
As far a Brock Lesnar, lets not forget that he was a NCAA wrestling champ...So he did have some serious grappling skills.
Forgot to mention Brendan Schaub and Todd Duffee?? lol Jonathan Goulet?
Hunt and Nelson are HW fighters. Name one fighter near GGG's weight taking a punch from him wearing 4 oz gloves.
Lesnar was a serious grappler, but became a champ without punch resistance. Something GGG would exploit.
And btw, he wouldn't be the first at all. Alistair Overeem became champ in MMA, kickboxing and even in a grappling tournament that wasn't the biggest stage of that sport but still very impressive.
Reem was a paper champion. He beat Todd Duffee in DREAM for the paper mma championship.
Todd Duffee is a horrible fighter and no way you win a mma championship beating him.

hey bro arent you the one that said arum cant stop ggg vs jcc from happening? guess you were wrong
Arum didnt stop that fight. It was Jcc, fight will happen later this year and be a PPV blockbuster with GGG coming in on a top 5 devastating KO.
Feel free to bump this thread once that PPV hits 1 million buys.
He is but he won't transcend the sport. If he makes it to PPV against an American name like ward. It might scrape 500k.
You are also forgetting about Asia. Golovkin might be the the most complete marketable fighter to come from the region.
Ethnically Korean, GGG could be the one that turns boxing main stream again. Boxing is huge in Japan and Korea and growing everyday in China.
Someone like GGG could become the main stream star Asia needed.
Golovkin is a star without a nation. You need a nation behind you to be PPV.
Who else does HBO have? Ward? Does he still fight? Donaire lost, Manny is back to china.
HBO needs Golovkin and will turn him into a star. GGG sells himself with the power, looks and willing to fight anyone.
GGG is exactly what boxing needs.
lol, For GGG to take over he's going to have to beat Andre Ward and thats not happening. GGG is probably going to be like the last guy max kellerman would pop a boner for, zab judah.
Please, only speak about Ward in the boxing history section. This sub forum is for active fighters.
Wrong. I am Kazakh. Kazakhstan does follow boxing as it's number one sport on the country - we top the rankings with Russia and Cuba in the ams. OTOH Kazakhs are not well represented in the US, which leaves the impression we are non-existent.
Kazakh women are beautiful. Simply stunning.
I think most of those supporters were either Filipino or Chinese there to see zou shimming. Not that they didn't appreciate seeing manny, but I'm just questioning how well a manny card would do in another Asian country (not the Philippines) without the support of a local fighter or being a gambling Mecca like Macao.
Guys like me have also enjoyed watching Golovkin. I'm just disagreeing in how far he can grow the sport. I hope I'm wrong but I can't see him being a 1m+ PPV star on his own like manny and Floyd have been.
If Golovkin becomes the lineal reigning middleweight champion. Plenty in Korea will support and fall in love with him. When has Korea had a champion in this high of a weight class? Golovkin is already selling cards out in NY. Without the signature win. The Kazakh population is not that high in NY but people in the crowd go crazy for GGG.
Just imagine once the unification is complete.
K2 should target Korea and Macao.
All those fights except for Fedor vs Brock were with fighters in different weight classes. And you're talking a 10 pound, 15 pound and a 20 pound difference. It's not like the UFC ever had two welterweights and couldn't get them to fight.
No Im not. Some fighters just cut more weight. Aldo weighs more than Pettis. Jones cuts weight, Cain doesn't.
These fights are not fairy tales that I'm making up.
They were talked about as happening by the president of the company.
Why don't you list current fights that UFC gave a title shot to that the challenger lost a non title fight and then got a title shot.. Your
Miesha Tate vs Rousey 2. Sonnen's last fight in the division was a loss in a non title fight to Sobral.
I backed up my claims. Now point out a championship fight on PPV in boxing with a fighter coming off a loss in the division?
Having one style and brand connected to a sport like UFC is to MMA is a very bad idea.
When that style(white trashy UFC) gets stale the entire sport dies. Which is what happened to MMA in North America.
Sugar Adam why do you continue to make excuse after excuse for the UFC. They failed to deliver on anything. Remember Sonnen vs Silva in a soccer stadium? What about Jones vs Gus 2 in a soccer stadium? They couldn't even make Pettis vs Aldo.
It's over. The UFC didnt deliver and fans left in droves. I do not know one single person that still cares about UFC.
Nah. Even if you like boxing better, to deny the UFC routinely puts on better matchups is a hopeless argument. Nitpicking about soccer stadiums isn't helping your point.
Jones vs Sonnen Title shot off a loss.
Rousey vs Tate Title shot off a loss.
Silva vs Weidmen 2 Title shot off a loss
Diaz vs GSP Title shot off a loss
All those were big money fights that fans wanted to see..
Sonnen fight was crap, but the others are all legit..
Did you use the silva-weidman 2??? Lmao, so a champion can't get a rematch if he lost his belt in a shocking lost...
Diaz was split decision end by condit and a lot of people thought he won, condit got the first title shot and then Diaz got his.. Similar to when Barrera narrowly lost to morales but got the prince naz title shot
Just stop.
Come on man you're being desperate.
Silva had a 16 win/10 title defense streak before Wiedman beat him. Of course a rematch happened. In fact you'd be better off complaining if it DIDN'T happen (in boxing Weidman would have probably spent 2 years putting around negotiating for more $$$).
Diaz fought Condit for the interim title. After Condit lost to GSP he was next in line.
Rousey vs Tate is girls. Pretend women's boxing is anything other than basically ignored on here.
Sonnen fought Jones (champion) coming off a loss to Silva (champion) so he fought for the title in one division then made a shot in another division.
You may not agree with those matchups but they were all reasonable title contenders/top guys or rematches/direct outcomes of title fights or title eliminators. They didn't just find some dude ranked #37 throw him in with #1 and charge you $70 for it.
In boxing you have downright exhibition fights on expensive PPVs where top guys just beat up a sack of potatoes to "show off their skills to the nation". We have become to used to that we just accept and love it.
Frankie Edgar vs Ben Henderson Title shot off a loss
Bj Penn vs Frankie Edgar Title shot off a loss
Marcio Rua vs Machida Title shot off a loss
Dan Henderson vs Silva Title shot off a loss
Randy Couture vs Sylvia Title shot off a loss
Bj Penn vs Hughes Title shot off a loss
Justin Eilers vs Arlovski Title shot off a loss
Ken Shamrock vs Tito Ortiz Title shot off a loss
And what would that change? You do realize Dana White went on for years about super fights. After every major card that bombed Dana would talk up a super fight between guys he had signed.
Guess what? None of them ever happened.
Gsp vs Anderson
Anderson vs Jones
Brock vs Fedor (yes Fedor was signed under zuffa in SF)
Cain vs Jones
Aldo vs Pettis
Only if they pay these fighters the kind of millions they are getting now. If they tried to pay them the chump change the UFC pays it's best fighters they would refuse to fight.
Sara McMann headlined the second biggest UFC PPV this year and made 16 thousand dollars.
http://www.mmamania.com/2014/2/24/5442654/ufc-170-full-payouts-salaries-daniel-cormier-leads-payday-way-nsac-mma
Sara McMann: $16,000
This is how the UFC operates. Paying PPV headliners 16,000 dollars.
02/01/2014 UFC 169 Barao vs Faber II 230,000 PPV buys
02/22/2014 UFC 170 Rousey vs McMann 340,000 PPV buys
03/15/2014 UFC 171 Hendricks vs Lawler 300,000 PPV buys
04/26/2014 UFC 172 Jones vs Teixeira 350,000 PPV buys
http://mmapayout.com/blue-book/pay-per-view/
All those fights are between two different weight classes.. It would be like Floyd fighting serg, or serg fighting kovolev...
UFC at least has all the guys in a weight class fight each other..
Gsp cameback from injury and fought his top 3 contenders in condit, Diaz, Hendricks...
Silva fought everyone at 185
Jones is fighting every top contender at 205
Even lesner fought top guys and didn't cherry pick anyone.. I can only imagine if he was a boxer, he would have the string of bum opponents like wilder has had and get to be proclaimed a top contending heavy... Boxing is a joke
Boxing we get none of that..
Serg is fighting Murray and cotto, not ggg, quillen
Floyd is fighting Maidana, ghost instead of Bradley, manny
Stevenson isn't fighting kovolev..
I don't even see how it's debatable that a single promotion with belts wouldn't be great for boxing...
Only an idiot would think that having four sanctioning bodies with interm, regular, super champs, and various promoters and networks is a good thing..
Anderson spent most of his career at 170 and below. Anderson won the Shooto title at 168 lbs. And routinely said he could still make 170. GSP is over 190 lbs and cut to 170.
Jones cuts from 230 to 205. Cain cuts zero weight. Aldo walks around heavier than Pettis.
Brock and Fedor both Heavyweights.
These guys are close in size. Some choose to cut more than others.
