Few years too late but still very good fight. I'm really glad for cotto. Will def buy this and I'm thinking the undercard will have a few mexican fighters, maybe canelo like last time.
The homophobia/hate in the comments is sad and disturbing. I hope that those that post such ignorant comments educate themselves, and change their ways.
Cruz may be milking it but I don't mind at all. The fact is that he is the 1st active gay boxer to come out, and keeping the subject on the spotlight for the next couple of days may inspire others to come out, etc. etc. and maybe one day the fact that someone is gay won't be a story at all because the sport/society will have accepted it.
Hahaha! Yeah, they're so ignorant. Such ignorance. I hate those ignoramuses. Haha! Cruz is suuuuch an inspiration. He should be given an award for being such proud ****sucker. Sorry, shouldn't use offensive words like that. I'm an ignorant breeder.
Acknowledging there is a problem is the first step in correcting it, so good for you.
Everything that happened was legal and have many have stated it is "protect yourself at all times". However, it was still a classless move that led to some cheap shots by Floyd. I don't think he should've thrown those punches, because imo Floyd would've dominated the fight easily enough and probably would've gotten the Ko in the later rounds. With this PPV being so expensive, I feel the fight shouldn't have ended the way it did.
Having said that, I fault Victor Ortiz more than anybody else (Cortez/Floyd). I'm tired of Ortiz, the guy just ain't mentally tough and I question if he should keep boxing. Maybe he needs to join his brother's company or something. I can't understand why he let himself get choked out in one of the press conferences and then yesterday after he butts Floyd, he starts apologizing and kissing Floyd? Then after it was clear the fight was back on he is still trying to hug and apologize to Floyd? The guy is in a damn fight, get to it! What's even more sickening to me is the way he's smiling at the end of the fight and high fiving all of Floyd's entourage. To make it worse, he shows no sign of being upset of what went down or the fact that he lost the fight. He has a smile on his face talking about how they gave people a good show. No you didn't Ortiz, cause no one wanted to see the fight end like that. I lost the little respect I had for the guy and I don't think I'll watch him fight again for the time being and I know for damn sure I won't pay for it. At least he didn't mention how he was abandoned when they interviewed for the final time.
I don't see the problem, Manny is agreeing to the tests just not on Floyd's terms. If the commission wants the strict testing Floyd wants then Manny will do it.
Here is what I hate about boxing fans.
Paul Williams lost to Carlos Quintana. After the fight, Paul Williams was deemed "overrated", weight issues, bla bla bla. Basically, he was just another good boxer who couldn't make welterweight. Then he avenges his loss, gets another W and suddenly he's the best fighter within 3 divisions and the most feared fighter on the planet.
Margarito beats Miguel Cotto, now Cotto is a bum and Margarito is the best anyone has ever seen on the face of the Earth.
lol. I just find that shit funny. One loss or win, and people start jumping on or off the bandwagon.
Same thing, with Jermaine Taylor. The guy won yesterday at 168lbs and suddenly he can challenge the 175lbs king, Joe Calzaghe. I mean WTF?
anywayz, just rambling.
MellowMood, here is a quote from one of the posters: "The idea that you think margarito would accept 2mill from hbo to fight shane when collazo received 2mill is a joke."
I'm just wondering if there is a link to that info.
I truly feel sorry for Mayweather fans. After all the noise they like to talk it looks like their boy let them down and they now they scrambling for excuses.
I'm a huge Miguel Cotto fan but this is getting ridiculous. The man is a professional boxer, he should know that a fight at 145lbs is still within the welterweight range. Of course he's going to have to pay a fee if his title is up for it, I can't see why he's making such a big deal out of it. He's paid fees before.
Having said that, the WBO are greedy bastards, and if Cotto is not defending his title, per the contract he is citing, then they shouldn't be trying to make him pay anything.
What I find somewhat interesting, is that Cotto mentions a "rough draft" of contract and not a "final" version.
I also don't see why Cotto is making a big fuss if Arum indeed will cover those fees.
I think he should put his belt on the line. Pacquiao will be his biggest pay day and beating him will open more doors for him in terms of future big fights, like the winner of Floyd vs. Marquez.
And even if does end up losing the fight, it's not like he won't get a shot at another title. Mosley, Berto are still there at welterweight for him.
I think this is great. Where I'm living, boxing PPVs aren't shown anywhere so if it's showing at a theatre it gives me a cheaper option than having to buy the PPV, especially if it's something that doesn't have a good card.
I'm glad they are doing this and I hope they do it for other big fights that don't involve just American fighters.
I've been to a few back when I lived in Puerto Rico, they would open up the theatre for fights and not just PR fighters cause I saw one of the Pacquiao vs. Barrera fights in the theatre.
I don't know if it's been posted before but if any of you guys want to look into it, if you go to www.fathomevents.com you can see if there is a theatre near you that will show it.
It's going to be $15 per ticket on my area, so looking forward to September.
the mayweather camp sees a fake one dimensional southpaw on steroids.
Nah, if they saw that then the fight would've already been made. Why deny yourself millions when it'd be so easy to beat a one dimensional southpaw?
Of course Mosley being the bigger threat makes it more meaningful. He was pound for pound #3 (Cotto wasn't even on the list), coming off a dominant victory (Cotto wasn't), was the linear title holder (Cotto had a paper belt), and was ranked #1 at welter.
And they wanted no parts of him.
I don't recall cotto not being inthe p4p lists in 2009 after he beat clottey. I also don't remember mosley being the linear champ. How did he get that? Cotto was the linear champ so when margs beat him margs became linear and then it went to mosley?
I hope another fight with Pacquiao doesn't happen. As far as Marquez goes, I believe he can still score a good money fight if he fought Amir Khan perhaps.
I didn't read through all the comments, so sorry if it's been said before.
Unless this lead to a quicker rematch with Miguel Cotto, say somewhere in early March, then this makes absolutely no sense.
I understand passing up on Paul Williams. He's a big risk that could derail the talked about rematch with Cotto in June/July. And even though he was apparentlly offered $4 mil for the fight, I think Margarito would've made more money by fighting Mosley and then Cotto. He would've added another name on his resume had he beaten Mosley, who is less of a risk than Williams) and would still be fighting a top guy in the welter division with a Cotto rematch. So, that line of thinking I understand.
Margarito walking away from a suppose $2mil on a non PPV card due to the money not being there in his eyes, is totally insane. Shane Mosley is still a name in boxing, I don't see who else will bring Margarito name recognition & money for a fight right now in the welter division. Margarito has already passed on Clottey, Paul Williams and now Mosley. So who is Margarito waiting for?
The only thing I can think of is that maybe Top Rank is close to getting the Cotto vs. Jennings deal done, a give Cotto a chance to win a belt. Then they'll turn around and set up Margarito vs. Clottey for a unification bout and the winner gets another unification bout against Cotto in June/July. Granted, this is very unlikely since Margarito vs. Clottey didn't take place this year after Margarito said he needed more time to train and couldn't meet a Nov. 1 date.
Again, unless Top Rank is ditching Cotto vs. Jennings and going ahead and just have Margarito vs. Cotto rematch early next year then It's a dumb move on Margarito's part.
GkEventhough there is no history with Pacquiao cheating.
There is a always a possibility for all fighters. How many
times have Athletes of every profession been caught
cheating? Especially the ones with the most squeaky
clean image in the public eye. I am not Manny but pride
and ego aside. I would just take the tests to get Floyd
in the ring and shut him up once and for all. Would think
that is all that matters. Give Floyd what he wants so there
will be no excuses after the fact.
I agree anyone can cheat but that's up to the sport of boxing to set up the ways to catch and stop any cheating. Pbf attacking mannys character cause of mannys accomplishment isnot cool though plus in a negotiation is give take and manny already gave the 2nd timr around. Its up to floyd now.
I believe Manny's camp agreed to a lot of things the second time they tried to make the fight, you know that's when negotiations took place but floyd's peeps said they never and then hbo said they had negotiations. Floyd's excuses are over, his fans need to stop making excuses for him. Floyd don't want Pac cause he thinks he can lose or have to work real hard to earn a w over manny. That's the bottomline imo. If he for a second thought the fight would be a cakewalk he would've signed already.
Yea you would think if this dude was so one dimensional, a midget, blueprint on how to beat him and al this other nonsense that Jr would've fought him already. With all the money that there is to be made from this fight and how easy it would be for Jr to take pac to school. Yet nothing from mayweather except excuses,.unfounded accusations and ramblings.
He can also fight Cotto (should he win) at 154 for another title at that weight class. Cotto is still a draw, I could see it doing more business than Mosley vs. Mayweather simply because Cotto has a bigger fan base. Doubt Top Rank would let Cotto participate if blood tests are involved though.
If I were in Peterson's shoes I'd probably do the same thing. He'll get paid in the Marquez fight and a should he win he'll definitely make some coin fighting Pacquiao. Although, I'm really hoping Mayweather vs. Pacquiao gets made later in the year if it won't happen in May, as it looks to be the case.
I'm curious as to why Top Rank won't match him against Pacquiao and have Bradley/Marquez instead. A Pacquiao win over Bradley would be a better notch on Pac's belt but a Peterson vs. Pacquiao is a more action fight in my opinion, Manny will look better beating him. Which he'll want to do to change the Mayweather vs. Pacman outcome perception there is now after his last fight.
Khan should definitely move on, and who knows he may get a shot a Floyd later on. Getting a win over a Guerrero or someone at 147 may help.
Shaw says JuanMa has no name recognition but apparently Celistino Caballero does?
I bet more people saw JuanMa beat Ponce de Leon than Caballero beating Molitor. And you know more people gonna see JuanMa Dec 6.
Pac could have fought Cotto at 147 where Cotto won the title.
Cotto was the champ and Manny made a reluctant Cotto put
his title on the line and Manny was the challenger? Why would
they do that if it didn't matter at 145? Manny fought De La Hoya
at 147 and not Cotto? Then he fought Clottey at 147? What
part of the game is that? Roach already said Cotto was damaged
goods? Why go for the weight? The funny thing is that Manny
has gooned De La Hoya, Hatton, Cotto and Margarito into everything
he wants but Pac can't do a random blood tests? That's bull****.
Like I said, the weight favored manny but not enough to try to discredit his win which a lot of people like to do. Not just with him but every boxer. Its actually one of the things I dislike about boxing fans. For exqample, at the time of manny vs oscar it was suppose to be a mismatch for oscar, manny can't win etc. Manny wins and now its weight drained oscar, shot oscar, etc.
Manny agreed to floyds demand 2nd time around, its up to floyd to make the fight.
Dude it's not an HBO PPV, it's a Top Rank PPV, HBO has nothing to do with this. There won't be a replay the Saturday afterwards so you will have to pay if you want to see it.
It sucks that we will have to pay for it but it was either that or no fights. HBO nor Showtime were interested because even though Cotto & Pavlik are quality fighters, they are coming off losses and are fighting what the networks and fans believe to be bums so they aren't ponying up the cash. Hence we are stuck with a Top Rank PPV.
The good news is I saw today there was a possibility of Arum placing Joshua Clottey vs. Kermit Cintron in the undercard.
I also saw they might put one of the Top Rank prospects, an European (russian maybe, dont' remeber) that is 2- 0 right now. I forget the dude's name, I wanna say Korobov but I'm not 100 sure.
Nothing wrong with it. The dude just fought Marquez. This is obviously a showcase fight for the fans since it's gonna be held in Puerto Rico and it keeps JuanMa busy. After this fight they'll probably match him tougher. Here's hoping Arum doesn't ***** out of his JuanMa vs. Gamboa plan for 2011.
Top Rank, Golden Boy, Dibella and the rest of the promoters should come up with one title for each division. Then use that as opposed to paying WBC, IBF and the rest of crooked organizations.
