UK welterweight Michael Jennings recently suffered an ankle injury in training camp and thought his February 21 bout with Miguel Cotto was going to be cancelled. The fight is scheduled to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York. The vacant WBO welterweight will be on the line. Jennings was unable to train for several days, but plans to pick things up in the next few days.
“Everything was going well with my training but recently I suffered a problem with my ankle,” said Jennings to the Lancashire Telegraph. “I could not run or even skip and it was really painful, but I went to get some physio from Rob Molyneux at Avalon Sports in Chorley. He said I could come during Christmas for treatment but thankfully it seems to have worked out.”
Jenning knows that he is a serious underdog in the bout. He wants to make history by winning the title in one of the most famous venues in the world.
“It would be great if I could write a little piece of history for myself by winning there. It is going to be difficult as I go over there as the massive underdog against Cotto as he is strong in every department,” Jennings said.
