Ive just seen promo of the upcoming fight on March 13, and notice Joshua Clottey punching like a woman. No pop on his punches. This will be one of Manny Pacquiao's easiest fights ever, calling it now. Clottey wont be Ko'ed, but he should lose 8 of 12 rounds to Manny Pacquiao. No. Margarito had a busted ear drum, huge swollen head and was in the hospital for well over 10 hours after his fight with Clottey. Corales(RIP) had a broken jaw after fighting Clottey. Judah's faced was all messed up. Same for Cotto. He is the only man to have stopped Jose Luis Cruz. The same Cruz who went 12 hard rounds with Shane Mosley. He is not an explosive puncher but he causes serious damage. Every single one of his opponents have messed up faces after their fight with him. That includes his 'loses'.

I bet Clottey can't even try to mimic 70% of Erik & JMM skills..hehehe :banana: good points though.. Which aspect of elTerrible's or Dinamita's game do you think Clottey can't excel in? Educate me. Because in my opinions, he punches harder than both, has better right hand than both, is more accurate than both, has faster hands than both and has way better defense than both. He can counter as good as JMM and can throw much better combinations than Morales. Clottey's footwork(please don't confuse with footspeed) is extremely good. He doesn't waste time or energy with fancy stuff. He optimises his movement to get in attacking and defending positions quickly and effectively and is rarely off balance.

Clottey is going to win and win convincily. Pac is a great fighter but this is one fight against one determined and skilled fighter he can't win. WAR CLOTTEY!!!!

Judah isn't far behind in hand speed I agree, but power wise, stamina wise and even skill wise he's not on the same level. I agree that Pac can be figured out, but Clottey is not the guy to do it. He doesn't have the skill set or boxing mind of a JMM, and so in no way will he cause as many problems for Pac as he did. I would be pleasantly surprised if Clottey beats Pac or even gives him a tough fight, but lets call a spade a spade, Pacquiao will take this fight without too much hassle due to the match up of styles. Judah can slip punches much better than Pac, has a better jab and can stick and move better than Pac. He is much harder to time than Pac who comes in and out. Judah lacks stamina but he can punch as hard as Pac. Remember at 140 he had fight ending power. Pac's KDs of Cotto were mostly due to surprise than power. Remember he couldn't KD a shot, weight drained de la Hoya and Cotto was a TKO. Clottey is a technically sound boxer. As sound as JMM. The only style difference from JMM is that he is much more defensive and takes less risks. Pac will take a lot of punishment and will only win based on being the busier fighter. He'll get the decision because even though he'll be less effective he's the big star and Clottey's effectiveness will not be as exciting or crowd pleasing as Pac's high volume activity. It'll go to the scorecards because I highly doubt Clottey can KO PAC. Also Pac is too durable to be broken down the way Clottey broke Judah down for it to be a glaring victory for Clottey. Let's agree to disagree and enjoy the fight.

IMO Clottey's only chance is to try and absorb as much of Pac's attack as possible with his high guard, lose the first half of the fight whilst allowing Manny to tire himself out, and then start to open up on Pac in the second half. The problem is, Pac more than likely won't tire, and Clottey would more than likely get caught with something big and lose his head. The fact is, Clottey is not being underestimated. Most admit he's a solid fighter, but he's perfect stylistically for Pac. At times, Cotto's speed and power was too much for Clottey - how much more will Pacquiao's? I agree about Pac's stamina. That's a huge advantage he has in his arsenal. Somehow, he is as fresh in the 12th round(if not even fresher) than he is in the first round. I disagree about the strategy however. Clottey doesn't just defend from the shell, he also counters and attacks from within that shell and he's explosive when he does that. He throws in very fast combinations. His game plan should be to break Pac down and slow him down in the first half of the fight. He won't be as busy or dynamic but the punches he does throw should be very hard and accurate. He did do that successfully against speedy, fast-footed southpaw Judah. He can also keep Pac at bay using a stiff jab from behind the tight guard because he has a longer reach. Winky used that effectively against Shane. And what part of the fight did you see 'Cotto's speed and power' bother Clottey? As I saw it it was Cotto on the retreat for most parts of the fight and especially the last four rounds.

wow where has this version of Clottey been? The man has 38 fights. 35 that he's won and only one of those was close. If you've watched enough of his fights and not just the Cotto fight you'll see what I say. Watch at least his last 6 fights(the full fights without the commentary) then analyse him again and form your own opinion. I formed mine but that's my opinion so you are free to form yours as well.

Please remember. Pac has never fought anyone like Clottey before, a huge, strong, tight defense, right handed aggressive counterpuncher. Clottey has fought fast, powerful, slick southpaws with quick feet before. Clottey has few weaknesses in his style for Pac to exploit. If you think low volume, accurate punching is a weakeness then you can say that but it's not. Don't wonder whether Clottey can handle Pac, he's proved beyond all reasobable doubt he can handle the skillset Pac brings. The question should be whether Pac can find a way around Clottey's guard that no one with speed, power, volume, southpaw stance has been able to do to date.

What's even more pointless on paper is that Clottey just came off a SD loss and Pacquiao just stopped the guy that beat Clottey. So on paper, it's a bad fight but I am pretty sure that Clottey will come to win and give it all he can before he gasses out. Doesn't change the fact that, on paper, he just came off a loss to Cotto and then Pacquiao goes and stops Cotto. On paper Cotto beat Mosley and Margarito stopped Cotto. What happened between Margarito and Mosley? Mosley stopped Margarito. Why? Styles make fights. Clottey's style is very different from Cotto's. He is right handed and is a defense first fighter. He only opens up if he is quite sure he can hit you and hit you cleanly without taking fire in return. He doesn't believe in taking punishment to give punishment or overwhelming you with his offense. He religiously practices hit and don't be hit. When he does open his offense is very impressive. He throws in combinations and very fast ones as that. He doesn't throw wide or looping punches and is very accurate. His punches are also crisp and clean whether they are straights, hooks, jabs or uppercuts. He is not slick or fast-footed but his footwork is very impressive. He is almost always in the correct position(against all types of fighters but especially southpaws) to attack or defend and doesn't waste energy or time in achieving this. Doubt me? Watch his fights with Judah, Cotto, Margarito, Corrales. Watch the whole fights without the biased commentary and form your own opinion. Pac main advantage in this fight is not power or offense. It's his quick feet, punch output, durability and stamina. He can look the busier fighter and get the decision even if Clottey is landing the more cleaner, effective punches. It'll be a mistake to try and break down Clottey, Pac will take too much punishment to do that and risks being broken down himself.

Clottey has no chance whatsoever. He has no movement. All he does is just stand there and get hit, which is PERFECT for PAC. This will be done by 9-10 by TKO, maybe even 8 Really? What does he need movement for? To get away from punches? To setup punches? His guard block punches extremely effectively and his footwork puts him in offensive and defensive position effectively and efficiently. He doesn't just stand there and get hit. He pressures you with his guard up all the time, he blocks and then lays the punishment on you. He hasn't been hurt, rocked, knocked out or cut in any fight and he's fought every type of fighter. Why do you think he will knock out Clottey when he couldn't knock out Marquez? Because Clottey is more durable, has a better chin and a much better defense than Marquez.

Clottey has a good chin, hes flat-footed and he doesnt throw many punches. I dont think thats underestimating him, its just stating the facts based on his previous fights. True but he's doesn't square himself up and is almost always very balanced and his footwork gets him into attacking and defensive positions quickly. He doesn't throw a lot of punches but he is very accurate with his punches and leaves little room or openings for his opponent to punch or counterpunch. Low punch output is not a problem if you are very accurate. Floyd doesn't throw a ton of punches but his punches land more cleanly and accurately. He is often outhrown but hardly ever outlanded. Same for Clottey, he's been outlanded only once in his whole career and that when he was injured against a record throwing Margarito(1675 punches thrown to be specific). Even then he was comfortably and easily outlanding Margarito in the first 4 rounds before the hand injures. Even though he has a good chin, he relies on blocking punches to prevent damage rather than taking punches to land punches. He is as hard to land cleanly on as Mayweather but the styles of avoiding punches are different, Mayweather uses movement, agility and reflexes, Clottey just blocks with his forearms, elbows and gloves. He will be close and in your face and you still can't land cleanly on him. He doesn't rely on speed alone in his offense or defense, rather on timing and technique. He uses his defense to set off his offense and he's always looking for an opening where he can hit without taking returning fire.

I think you're giving Clottey far too much credit here. The guy is a solid fighter, but he's not that good. Essentially I see this fight going much the same way as Pac/Cotto did, regardless of hype. Clottey won't take as much punishment as Cotto did against Pac due to his defense, but he also won't inflict as much damage as Cotto did on Pac, as Clottey isn't active enough, takes time off in rounds and doesn't hit as hard as Cotto. Pacquiao loves a guy who stalks him down and that lacks lateral movement. Pac will be buzzing about him, using his speed and awkwardness to find gaps in Clotteys defense, whilst making it hard for Clottey to land anything meaningful. I like haveing a lively debate so let continue. I said I see the fight more like Hopkins-de la Hoya. Here are my reasons. CLOTTEY 1. Clottey like Hopkins is bigger, has a longer reach and had been fighting at that weight for a long time. 2. Clottey like Hopkins has excellent defense 3. Clottey like Hopkins uses little movement 4. Clottey like Hopkins has low output but high accuracy 5. Clottey like Hopkins relied on timing and counterpunching PAC 1. Pac like de la Hoya was the more popular favourite 2. Pac like de la Hoay was the much faster guy in terms of hand speed 3. Pac like de la Hoya had much faster feet and movement 4. Pac like de la Hoya throws in flurries and volume 5. Pac like de la Hoya was relying heavily on his speedy left hand Now tell me why the fight is more like Pac-Cotto.

This is mainly an argument that Clottey would put up a better fight than previous opponents. He's only going to be in the fight the first 3-6 rounds, and I'm being nice. After that, Pac is going to blow his ass out. Clottey is a good fighter but not on Pac's level. This will not be a competitive fight. How many fights have you seen Clottey be in for just '3-6 rounds'? His nickname is actually 'Heater' not 'Hitter'. Heater because as the rounds go he actually figures you out and turns up the heat and lays a beating on you. Pac has been clearly beaten more than once and has been in close fights against other opponents. Not all his wins have been as dramatic as his last four. His record is 50-3-2(38KO) that means there are at least 5 times he wasn't dominant and 12 opponents who survived the whirlwind. He is not on a level no one can get to. He struggled mightily against Marquez both times and against Morrales in the first fight and first half of the second fight. Clottey is as good if not better than both Marquez and Morrales. He has all the tools they have and then more. Cotto, Hatton, de la Hoya, Diaz are all similar in the aspect that they are left hand dominant, no-defense fighters who look to overwhelm with their offense. Clottey is a right handed, aggressive, pressuring counterpuncher with a tight defense. Pac has his work cut out. He is in for a tough fight. He can win but it won't be easy. There's a high probability of him losing if he underestimates Clottey or doesn't stay disciplined or focused in this fight. He won't win this fight with his offense or power, he won't break down Clottey because he can't get through that guard or go to the body without being broken down himself. Pac has to use his foot-speed and low power high volume of punches to look busier and win a decision. If he tries to go for the spectacular he'll get broken down. Clottey is hoping he can lure Pac into an inside fight, where his defense and counter punching will prevail. Other than that he'll use his tight guard and a stiff jab to fight from the outside. What will Pac do in response, side step to the left and jump in? He'll meet a straight right.

Sheesh, with all these skills you'd think Clottey was one of the best of his generation or something. With a better promotion, team, he will have been more popular and one of the best. As is, he is very very good. Elite but not one of the very best like Pac or Mayweather. Pac has to be on top of his game, this is not Hatton, Cotto, Diaz or de la Hoya. He's never been knocked out, dominated, or even cut before. He is right handed and has a good defense with good timing and countering skills. This is a solid fighter trying to make a name for himself. Pac better not slip on this banana peel.

Yea, exactly. Pac beating Clottey will not be a bad thing necessarily - the guy is a top fighter. The thing is, Pac has beaten guys like Clottey a million times before and his style thrives on opponents like him. So IMO it's a pretty pointless fight at this stage of his career. Name one Pac opponent who has Clottey's style. Just one. Clottey is right-handed, defensive, pressuring, counter puncher who throws in combinations. He will be in Pac's face all night like most of Pac's opponents but crucially he'll be doing that from behind a very tight, responsible guard with excellent countering ability. He is not reckless with his offense and doesn't rely on his offense to overwhelm. He uses his defense to set up his offense. He is bigger and stronger and can physically manhandle Pac much better than most of his past opponents. Who has this style. Cotto? Hatton? de la Hoya? Diaz? Marquez? Morrales? The closest to Clottey's style are Marquez and Morrales and they are not as big, strong or fast and don't even have the foundation of Clottey's style. His impregnable defense. And they gave Pac hell for most parts of their fights with him. Pac is the favourite to win, but it won't be a dominating win and he stands a high chance of losing if he underestimates Clottey. Watch Clottey-Corrales(RIP).

The Cotto fight was close that could've gone either way. It was certainly up for grabs when Clottey took his foot off the pedal--when it mattered most (sound familiar?). As for the body slam, well that looked as blatant as the headbutt. Meaning, it's open for interpretation. And spare me with the low blows and "rabbit punch." Just wow. Where do you get this "official" criteria percentage-wise from? And again, you are blaming judges because Clottey decided not to throw punches? WTF? Exactly - which is why it was absolutely mind boggling. But not surprising if you've watched Clottey over the years. And it had NOTHING to do with stances. Dude, he clearly headbutted him TWICE, was warned, had a point deducted and then did it AGAIN. Whatever - well see what we want to. The rabbit punch? Cotto had his back against the ropes in a clinch with Clottey who was facing towards the ropes, the referee was coming towards them. Cotto spins behind Clottey(who is still facing the ropes) and is now behind Clottey with Clottey's back exposed to him and then punches Clottey in the back of the head. What is that? The low blows? The referee\Cotto saw it was a low blows, they just wanted the fight to continue because we can always say they are accidental. The body slam? Clottey, with his back against the corner and after landing three shots on Cotto, slipped on the canvas when he tried to move forward and tried to lean onto bended down Cotto's back to prevent himself from falling down. Cotto lifts himself(and Clottey) but importantly he pushes Clottey down with one of his gloves on Clottey's back. The scoring criteria is from an WBC executive. That's the breakdown he gave at Clottey's news conference in Accra. If it's wrong blame him or the website i read that. You can always do your own checks. What punches did Cotto throw in those rounds? He was out landed 19-7 in the 10th, the 11th was even and he outlanded Clottey by 2 or 3 punches in the 12th. And that was when he was in full retreat mode.

why couldn't he chase cotto in last rounds? if he needs to chase pacquiao to win, he'll lose every single round. that's why he needs movement Yo have a point and that is Pac's main advantage but that negates a lot of his offensive advantages. You can't plant your feet when you are on your bike and you can't come forward much either. Clottey did do that effectively against Judah early on in their fight. I believe his stamina let him down when Cotto started to get on his bike late on in their fight. He was chasing but he wasn't effective with it. If it's at the beginning I believe he will have broken Cotto down because his strategy will have been different, Coto go on his bike initially just to survive but since Clottey didn't press as hard as expected Cotto was able to look good.

Ok Everybody enough of this Clottey shit. Stop hyping this dude up and acting like Pac aint gon beat the shit out of him. Please. What happens if this fight turns out like Pac-Marquez II? That was the same thing a lot of people were saying then before that fight. How Pac was going to knock out Marquez with his new skillset(right hand), foot and hand speed and power. It's your prerogative to believe what you wish to, I for one believe Pac is being overhyped. Does that make me right? Not necessarily, it's just my opinion. Don't state yours as facts my friend. Have you seen anybody 'beat the shit' out of Clottey before? I haven't but I have seen Pac been beaten up before. I have never seen a speedy, fast-footed, powerful southpaw give Clottey problems before let alone beat him but I have seen a right handed counter puncher give Pac hell on more than one occasion so at least my opinion is built on some analysis of facts. I can mention two southpaws Clottey handled with ease recently(Alvarez, Judah) I can also name 4 right handed fighters that gave Pac hell(Marquez, Morales, Singsurat,Torrecampo). Can you name any southpaws that gave Clottey problems? What is your opinion built on apart from Pac's recent performances against left hand dominant fighters with no defense and Clottey perceived stamina and output problems? Let me know.

If Clottey wins it will be a bigger upset than Tyson douglas In terms of public perception, yes it will as big or bigger an upset. That is because of the media hype around Manny. In terms of boxing ability and records not that much. Remember, Douglas had been knocked out and completely beaten before and Tyson had handled fighters with Douglas' style before. Clottey has never been knocked out before, has never been convincingly beaten or taken much punishment in any fight. Pac hasn't faced a fighter with Clottey's tight defense before either. Besides, Tyson was undefeated in 43 fights and was the undisputed heavyweight champion, Douglas wasn't even a top 10 contender if I remember correctly. Pac has lost three times and has been in close fights. Clottey is a 5 top-rated welterweight who has held his own against top-rated welterweights.

Clottey lost every big fight hes had. This one will be no different. He is a loser. Nothing more. Hes been boxing since 1995 and Baldimir has a better career then him. Really? Where is Baldomir now? You call a former world champion a loser? You call the most avoided welterweight a loser. If he was don't you think a lot more top ranked welterweights will fancy a fight with him? At least to stay busy and get a good name on their resume. The only time he's being given a chance was when the champion had no other options. That includes Margarito, Cotto, Mosley and Pac. That is because he presents a serious threat in the ring. Even then he has had to do that against biased refereeing and judging. Don't tale my word for it, watch his fights with Baldomir, Margarito, Cotto yourself. Tell me your opinion of the refereeing and judging in those three fights. Every elite boxer says of Clottey: high risk, low reward. They'll fight him if they have no other viable options, even then they aren't enthused about it. Did you hear Mosley say Clottey is no good? Or insist on fighting Clottey after the December 26 fight fell through? The only people you'll hear saying Clottey's no good are fans and commentators who haven't watched his fights and only repeat what the media says(or watch fight highlights) and Roach, Mayweather Sr who have a vested interest in saying so. All welterweights boxers themselves respect what Clottey brings into the ring.

Nah. It will be a repeat of the Cotto/Pac fight. Except maybe he won't get stopped. Competitive in the beginning and than Pac will begin to open up and Clottey won't come out of his shell. Not to mention, he's probably more mentally weak than Cotto. Clottey has little to no chance. By the late rounds he will be freaking exhausted and be taking a beating while offering little firepower back. It will be al ate stoppage or a wide UD...a la Cotto fight. And what he does land won't have the effect Cotto's punches did. Mentally weak? The man fought 7 close rounds against a compubox record punches Margarito with injured hands. Have you ever seen Clottey take a beating against any opponent before? Clottey is hardly ever in retreat. Even against Margarito with injured hands he fought Margarito tough and close. As to damage. Just watch the faces of Clottey's last 6 opponents after their fights with him. Infact add Margarito. He is not a high volume puncher, but that's because he want to hits you cleanly and effectively and his punches even though not explosive are very crisp and cause significant damage. Clottey has a much bigger chance than Marquez had in Pac-Marquez II because he has all the tools that Marquez had(straight right, countering, timing, accuracy, power, chin, footwork against southpaws) and better in most cases and has other tools Marquez didn't even have. Like what? His tight defense, size, reach and brilliant combinations. If in doubt just watch Judah-Clottey, Margarito-Clottey, Clottey-Corrales and Cotto-Clottey.

I think Clottey is a come forward fighter. He just moves in straight lines and follows his opponents around the ring - something Pac loves his fighters to do. And sure catching Judah's attack is one thing, but Pacquiao's is on a different level - and if you think he's just gonna pick off Pac's shots and land better ones of his own you've got another thing coming. He's no JMM. As I have said before, his best chance is to try and absorb as much of Pac's power shots as he can early by being very defensive, and then open up and unload more in the second half. I just don't think Pac will tire enough for that strategy to work, and he will more than likely lose his head after being caught with something. Don't be blinded, Judah is not that much behind Pac in terms of hand or foot speed. Pac is not on an unseen before level. He has extreme hand and foot speed, good power and amazing footwork. His ability to score KDs come mostly from his ability to surprise with his punches rather than his pure power. With all these attributes he still got beaten by Morrales, lost more rounds against Marquez than he won(he only won the fights because of the KDs). He can be figured out, timed and countered. And it doesn't require an equally fast-handed, fast-footed boxer or slick boxer to do that. Clottey has all the attributes that caused Pac problems in his fights with Morrales and Marquez and more and Pac still has the same weaknesses he had in those fights.

problems with this equation IMO 1. Clottey is no Hopkins in terms of ability to use the skills given to him 2. While Hopkins is indeed a man of little movement its very smart movement one to keep him in ideal position to his opponent. Clottey is still essentially a come forward fighter. 3. Hopkins defense sets up his offense by setting traps and exposing an opponent's willingness to extend. Clottey waits until his opponent is done then he counters back 1. de la Hoya had handspeed but it was more flurries and shoeshines. Manny's speed also comes with power added 2. de la Hoya's footwork isnt the best. He had some speed but it wasn't nearly as quick as what Manny's footspeed is. Manny can dart, Oscar cannot 3. DLH's speedy lefthand came from an orthodox right handed position meaning a jab and left hook so Hopkins was able to time him well. Manny's left hand is his money punch and he throws it as a lead, as a 1-2 and now as a hook to both the body and head Good return. Which attributes? He can lead with his right using straight, jabs, hooks uppercuts from within the guard. He can triple and quadruple his left hook. He keeps his guard up at all times. I'll give he can't set traps as good as Hopkins but that's about what Hopkins can do that he can't but he also is uses his defense to set off his offense. Clottey's hand and footspeed are faster than Hopkins so in relative terms the difference between Pac-Clottey is similar to Hopkins-de la Hoya. And Clottey throws in combinations. I do believe Clottey's movement is very controlled. He doesn't expend a lot of energy to get into offensive or defensive positions. He is a pressure fighter so moves forward often but he moves backwards when required. To the side or straight backwards. He can also spin around fighters to get in position. He can even box on his toes when required. He is always in position to launch his attack or defend against one. He doesn't necessarily wait for an opponent to finish punching. He waits to get an opening. And that sometimes seems like he's waiting for his opponent to finish punching, but he does punch mid combination if he believes he can do that without taking return fire. His aim to inflict as much damage whiles taking as little as possible. Clottey is right handed and leads with his right against southpaws. He has a stiff jab and can counter with straights, hooks and uppercuts using that right. He also ensures his footwork keep southpaws withing range of his straight right whiles prevent sideways movement of southpaws. So Pac's southpaw stance is not as big an advantage as it will seem. He completely controlled Alvarez and Judah to telling effect. Clottey has a tighter more responsible defense than Hopkins. If you go to the bulletin of boxing you'll see a nice article on what problems Clottey brings to Pac.

I did not say Clottey's style is the same as other guys Pac has faced - I said Pac's style is suited to him, just as it was suited to Diaz, DLH, Hatton, Cotto etc. Also, Clottey is not faster than Morales or JMM or as skilled, and he does not have an "impregnable defense" - although it is better than Pac's recent opponents. Clottey does have faster combination punching. Mention the skills Morrales or Marquez have better than Clottey. I have watched Morrales, Marquez and Clottey and my opinion is that Clottey has better technique execution than the other two. In terms of punch selection, punch accuracy and footwork. He throws better more varied combinations, better straight rights, better left hooks, better uppercuts, crisper, cleaner punches, better defense, leaves few openings when on the attack and is almost always in the correct position to attack or defend. Marquez, Morrales take more risk and are more exciting but Clottey is technically much better than both. I'm not basing this on name or fame just ability in the ring. Ok maybe impregnable is extreme. But it's extremely effective. He hasn't been rocked, seriously hurt, dominated, knocked out or cut in any fight and that's because he's is very hard to land clean against. That's not my opinion, that's the comments of all his past opponents. And that against every type of fighter, power, speed or volume puncher. Apart from Mayweather, name me one top welterweight who comes out of fights with as little damage as Clottey. If that's not a testament of his 'impregnable defense' then I don't know what else there is. Can you tell me how Pac can take advantage of Clottey's style? He will be pressuring Pac but that will be behind a tight guard. He will probably jab from behind the tight guard. He'll also time and counter when Pac is on the attack. He won't be reckless with his attack, he will probably aim to break Pac down by hitting hard accurate single shots(straight rights) and quick one handed combinations(left hooks) to the body and head that leave little room for Pac to counter. His guard will be up all the time, and he'll make Pac pay if Pac attempts to concentrate to his body because Pac's head will be exposed. Pac does not outbox his opponents, he outlands and outpunches them. Pac relies on his offense to overwhelm his opponents and I believe Clottey's defense can shut that down. It effectively shut down Margarito(first 4), Cotto, Judah, Corrales. Those are big punchers, fast punchers, combination punchers, volume punchers. None could crack that guard and I doubt Pac can. Roach is now talking about going to Clottey's body. First off, Pac is not a really good body puncher, he can punch to the body but he's not that effective enough for it to cause serious problems for his opponents. Secondly, Clottey knows how to defend his body pretty well and doesn't weaken when his body is attacked. Thirdly, he'll make Pac pay a high price for that strategy. You can reference his fights with Judah and Corrales for illustration. Beyond all this is the fact that Pac is quite open to be hit. He doesn't defend himself very well from punches if he in the range of the punches. He compensates by movement but if someone catches up to him, he very open to hit. I could be wrong in my assumptions but if Clottey is on top of his game there's very little Pac can do to get inside his guard or hurt him whiles he has all the skills to cause serious hurt to Pac. All the fights I have seen of Clottey, there is no one who has outlanded him when he is uninjured. No one has convincingly beaten him. No one has ever hurt or dominated him in any condition. No one. I can't say the same for Pac's last four opponents or even Pac himself. I could be wrong but if you forget the hype, this fight looks more like Hopkins-de la Hoya than Pac-Cotto.

Give me a break. Most avoided? He's fought Margarito, Judah, Cotto in the past two years. And I've seen all of those fights...you're blaming the reffing and judging? Really? Did the ref tie his hands in the championship rounds against a clearly weakening Cotto? How about the Margarito fight when he took, oh, five rounds off before his mysteriously injured hands recovered? And how in the WORLD can you blame a ref or judging in the Baldomir fight? If you repeatedly use your head to try and break the other guy's face (guess what?) you're going to get disqualified! Look, I won't be surprised if Clottey's natural size gives Pac hell and he even pulls off a shocker. But that's what it will be because nothing he's done in the past shows that he knows how to win a big fight. Only lose. No, the referee failed to penalise Cotto for the body slam, low blows and rabbit punch. The judges gave most of Cotto's rounds to him based on activity alone without using the official criteria clean effective punches. Against Margarito, the judges card were biased 118-110, 116-112 twice. The criteria for scoring officially: clean, effective punches(70%), effective aggression and defense(20%) and ring generalship(10%). If you watch that fight, the best you can give Margarito is 6-6 because he clearly lost the first 4 rounds and at least 2 of the last 8. Against Baldomir, the issue was not Clottey intentionally using his head, it was Clottey's stance and Baldomir's stance and Clottey's desire to be aggressive in the last part of that fight. He was far ahead on the score cards and handily trashing Baldomir and didn't need to foul to win.

Even then he didn't rock or have Oscar seriously moved by his power. And you believe he'll do that with Clottey? Cotto tried to use slick boxing as his defense, he obviously is not slick enough, his fights with Margarito and Clottey should have told him that but he still tried to go in with hands down defense, relying on his footwork and reflexes against a speed demon. Clottey is none of those. He pressures from behind a tight guard. You can move all you want, throw as fast and as powerful as you want. It highly unlikely you'd be scoring much. Not one of his 38 opponents have managed to do that. And his fought at 154 more than 3 times. Being in there against at least 4 former world champions. Against all style, stance, volume, power and speed punchers. You believe Pac will get through that? You are entitled to your opinion but I don't believe he can get through that guard. Clottey can and does fight in the pocket very effectively. Watch his fight with Corrales. Judah was throwing 70-80 punches in the first four rounds against Clottey and landing very little. Judah's money punch is the quick, powerful left upper cut that he throws without warning, it's as fast and powerful as any single punch Pac can throw. He rocked Cotto and caught even Mayweather with it. He didn't land even a single one against Clottey. How many punches a round do you think Pac can throw to keep Clottey off him 100,120? because that is what Margarito was doing in the first 4 rounds against Clottey and was still getting beat up. Pac's gameplan in this fight shouldn't revolve around haymakers. Clottey's defense can pick that off easily. He should concentrate on just being busy and looking to avoid getting timed or countered whiles doing that. Clottey won't be trying to be slick or fleet of foot. He will be right in front of Pac and pushing him back. Can Pac fight effectively on the back foot? If he tries to be aggressive Clottey will be extremely prepared for that. This fight will determine whether Pac can be a technical and tactical fighter. This is not a fight he'll win on overwhelming offense.

Clottey is simply a Mexican who was born in Africa. Mexicans (the style of fighting) lose 9 out of 10 fights to the boxers. Manny is gonna beat him badly. Clottey won't break Pacquiao down, get real. CLOTTEY HASNT BROKEN ANYBODY DOWN. Clottey isn't no damn counterpuncher, if Manny is first, Manny is gonna tear his ass up. Manny's not gonna be on the bike, he's gonna be moving to Clottey's left and beating him up all night. It will look like Calzaghe-Lacy only this time Calzaghe has a punch. You, my friend is not being objective about Clottey. He wins all his fights by breaking down his opponents. He doesn't rely on one-punch KOs or overwhelming strength or power, just an accumulation of accurately placed, clean power shots landed without taking return fire. That's exactly what he'll do to Pac, he'll make Pac do all the showy, busy work, while he lands the cleaner, harder punches, that cause damage. I don't know whether he'll break down enough to knock him out, but it should be enough to win if the judges are even a bit fair. Oh, and Clottey's footwork and right hand ensures Pac will be at a disadvantage trying to move to his left. Just watch his fight against Judah and on Saturday night, you'll understand.

These short comings are the reason why he has lost several title fights that were winable if he would have turn it up a notch. Basically, Clottley has consistently failed to finish off or dominate an opponent. He needs to fight like he has to prove something & finish strong or he will lose again by decision:boxing:. The guy has lost one title fight he injured his hand in. Try punching or blocking with a fractured hand. He was easily thrashing Margarito before he injured his hands, even then, he gave Margarito a run for his money. Out of the last eight rounds I gave him at least two. He won the first 4 in my book. The worst fair result should have been a draw. FYI I know the doctor who treated him back in Ghana. He won against Cotto. You might say he didn't do as much as we'll all like to make it comprehensive in the last two rounds but what did Cotto do those last two rounds?. Back pedal and throw jabs that were blocked and fouling consistently in the last round. Clottey was chasing him from rounds 7-12. Chasing and hitting when he threw. Not just throwing punches to show activity. Which round can you confidently say Cotto did more damage to Clottey than the other way round? 7-12. I can only give Cotto the 11th. Explain why you'll give any round to Cotto apart from the fact that he had heart and was fighting back even though he was taking a beating. 1-6. Apart from 1&6,which other round do you think Cotto was more effective(don't mistake with busy). He took a beating and survived only because of his heart. In no way, shape or form did he win. Can you honestly say that by the 9th round you were not thinking Cotto was going to be stopped? He would have survived to lose the decision against Pac as well if the referee hadn't stepped in. Against Baldomir he was actually ahead on all three cards in the 11(even after a 2 point deduction). I do agree that he can do more to be dominant but so far he's done enough to be a top ranked welterweight. I assure you that anyone of the top ranked welters today except Mayweather and Pac will be extremely cautious about their chances against Clottey.

Sorry for the long post...... I remember before Oscar vs Pac. Nobody gave Pac a dog's chance because they were all focused on the star who was Oscar, really forgetting that styles and abilities win fights not names. Don't just look at Pac and what he can do against other fighters with other styles. Clottey is not Cotto, Diaz, de la Hoya, Hatton. Clottey is a bigger, better and defensive version of Marquez. He can throw multiple varied combinations, has a sharp right hand, can counter very effectively, is very accurate with his punches and has under rated hand speed. He is a technician, a thinking fighter. Better combination puncher than Marquez? He can throw a triple,quadruple left hook to the body and head, double,triple left or right uppercut followed by hooks, 6 punch left-right hook combination. He's done this against all his opponents. Remember combinations not flurries. He can throw basically any punch in the book: hook, uppercut, straight, jab correctly and fast. He does all this without leaving his defense open. People talk about his activity level but he throws an average of 55 punches around with an accuracy level between 32-50%. The time his activity level drops off really is when his opponents start backpedalling heavily or when he's hurt his hands(even Mayweather was out thrown and outlanded with injury to his shoulder). He never slacks off when his opponents is engaging. Infact he'd thrown 28 punches in less than 1:30 of the 9th round of his fight with Judah. Clottey is not the most exciting(high activity, extremely offensive) fighter but he's a damn efficient fighter. He doesn't waste his energy in either attack or defense. He thinks about what he's doing and doesn't use just athleticism or natural ability. He uses technique and adapts to fighters as well. People also forget that Clottey outlanded Cotto in almost every round(including the 1st). People forget he was dominating Cotto from round 7-10. Only a desperate\frustrated fighter will resort to dirty tricks. Watch the fight without the commentary and watch who is landing what carefully. Cotto landed very few punches of significance the entire fight, despite all that he was throwing, whiles eating a steady diet of hard punches. Clottey did all this whiles slipping all over the canvas because of the new painted adverts. He better buy better shoes this time otherwise he'll be KTFO Pac's going to be in battle against a highly skilled technician and if he doesn't realise that and relies only on his exceptional physical gifts of speed and power(hand and foot) he's going to lose big. You might discount him but Judah is pretty fast and powerful. He got severely beaten up by Clottey, infact Clottey beat Judah up more than even Cotto, so much he preferred to quit than continue to fight. Pac is going to have to be tactical(and maybe boring), disciplined and perfect to win this fight. He has to stop thinking this is an easier fight because Clottey is not as fast as Mayweather or doesn't move as much. He has to stop thinking only his offense is enough to win the fight. His offense is not the main thing in this fight because he won't land much cleanly. Volume, power, speed are not going to crack Clottey's defense, Margarito threw more than 1600 punches and didn't get through to hurt Clottey, Judah with all his speed didn't get through and Cotto with all his power didn't get through. He has to concentrate more on not getting hit rather than hitting in this fight. Cotto caused much more damage to Pac than he did to Cotto. Let me illustrate this and Clottey's offense\defense: After Pac-Cotto: Cotto had swollen eyes, swollen lip, bleeding mouth and nose and Pac had a busted ear drum, swollen eyes, cut swollen lips. That should tell you about the defense of Pac. After Cotto-Clottey: Cotto had a swollen eyes, swollen lip, bleeding mouth and nose. Clottey was unmarked. After Clottey-Corrales(RIP): Corrales had a broken jaw, swollen, almost shut eyes, cut on both his eyes, bleeding nose and mouth. Clottey was unmarked. After Clottey-Judah: Judah had swollen eyes, cut on his eye(from a punch), bleeding nose and mouth. Clottey was unmarked. After Margarito-Clottey: Margarito had swollen eyes, swollen head, busted ear drum, swollen lips and had to be in the hospital for 10 hours (can't psot urls now but google 'margarito, hospiatl,clottey'). Clottey was unmarked. If Pac is not disciplined this will turn out like Shane Mosley-Winky Wright. Shane had extreme hand speed, foot speed, power in both hands, aggressiveness, stamina and mental will. Winky had his tight peek-a-boo guard(like Clottey), a nice stiff jab and size\reach advantage. What happened? Shane was convincingly beaten not once but twice. More on defense of Clottey, Pac. 1. Pac has been seriously rocked multiple times in many fights and as recently as Marquez II, Clottey's never been seriously rocked 2. Pac's been in trouble in more than 1 fight, Clottey's never been in trouble in any fight 3. Pac's been cut in more than one fight and as recently as Marquez II, Clottey's never been cut in any fight 4. Pac's been outlanded in more than one fight (excluding his losses), Clottey's been outlanded only once (against Margarito, who threw more than 1600 punches when Clottey had injured hands and he still didn't land any significant punch that troubled Clottey) Slipping, moving is not the only defense available, it's good if you have the reflexes, athleticism and extreme stamina for 12 rounds but it uses a lot of energy and can be time\figured out. Clottey can box on his toes very effectively if he needs to(round 9 or 10 against Margarito) but prefers the high guard defense because it more effective for him. Clottey's defense is in front of you and you know it yet you can't get through or around it. It uses little energy and it's effective to both the body and head. Clottey's defense, whiles different in technique is as effective as Mayweather's, very few punches land cleanly through his defense. Also, he's in position to counter or launch his offense effectively from it immediately your attack is over because he is really close to you whiles you are punching. Pac\Mayweather fans will be well advised to really study Clottey (watch his fights, at least full fights against Cotto, Judah, Coralles, Margarito, Baldomir) before making their pronouncement or they'll be shocked at how bad Clottey makes Pac look. Pac may annihilate Clottey as they are saying, but that's a very small possibility. It's a slim as Clottey KOing Pac in 3 rounds(Clottey is an accumulation fighter not KO artist). This is a tough fight that Pac will probably win but it'll take a lot out of him. He may even have to rely on favourable judges (like in Marquez I & II) to win.

Clottey wont KO Pac lol, what world do you live in? way to fast for him to get licked, and you cant question his toughness either, Cotto landed some massive bombs in their fight and didnt even get rocked in the slightest. I doubt Pac would be able to KO Clottey clean though, if anything it will be TKO cuts in the later stages of the fight. Cotto didn't really land bombs. He landed sharp jabs. Clottey has never been cut before and he's fought fighters with bigger power than Pac and at higher weight class. Pac is not KOing Clottey, Clottey is too organised in his fight style to leave himself open for surprises or to take a lot of punishment.
