He will be there all the way, and will put up a competitive fight and do more damage than Pacquiaos last opponent. He will also use his technical skills that Pacquiaos last two opponents did not have, and will alsoput up a more entertaining and more competitive fight.
I gonne bump this threat once Pac Knock Clottey out.( just to show some of us to never discredit a great fighter such as Cotto or Hatton)
I really like Clottey, hes a badass, a real competition, but Cotto deserves respect after the fight with Pacquiao and Cotto didnt get KTFOed in round two, he just stood up and continue to fight back, and he did well in the early rounds.
boring? hell nooo!
btw I think Clottey wont do better than Cotto.
Cotto show that hes real warrior with a big heart and good boxing skills in the Pacquiao-fight and in the Clottey-Fight.
Im rootin for Clottey :D:D ahaha
Street is a closet Cotto hater...lol. He started off the thread with his usual underlying "dig" at Cotto. He a few of these here in NSB. He really, really hates Cotto cuz he beat Clottey, and he did it with 1 eye! How embarresing!
why couldn't he chase cotto in last rounds?
if he needs to chase pacquiao to win, he'll lose every single round. that's why he needs movement
Yo have a point and that is Pac's main advantage but that negates a lot of his offensive advantages. You can't plant your feet when you are on your bike and you can't come forward much either.
Clottey did do that effectively against Judah early on in their fight. I believe his stamina let him down when Cotto started to get on his bike late on in their fight. He was chasing but he wasn't effective with it.
If it's at the beginning I believe he will have broken Cotto down because his strategy will have been different, Coto go on his bike initially just to survive but since Clottey didn't press as hard as expected Cotto was able to look good.
I don't feel Clottey is a soft touch, I just don't think he can pose many problems to Pacquiao.
Will be watching and hoping for an impressive performance from Manny though.
Clottey is a pretty solid opponent for Manny's first defense of his welterweight title
Clottey is a BEAST! Pac is a BEAST! This is gonna be one hell of a boxing fight!
If Clottey wins it will be a bigger upset than Tyson douglas
In terms of public perception, yes it will as big or bigger an upset. That is because of the media hype around Manny. In terms of boxing ability and records not that much.
Remember, Douglas had been knocked out and completely beaten before and Tyson had handled fighters with Douglas' style before.
Clottey has never been knocked out before, has never been convincingly beaten or taken much punishment in any fight.
Pac hasn't faced a fighter with Clottey's tight defense before either.
Besides, Tyson was undefeated in 43 fights and was the undisputed heavyweight champion, Douglas wasn't even a top 10 contender if I remember correctly.
Pac has lost three times and has been in close fights. Clottey is a 5 top-rated welterweight who has held his own against top-rated welterweights.
Clottey has no chance whatsoever. He has no movement. All he does is just stand there and get hit, which is PERFECT for PAC. This will be done by 9-10 by TKO, maybe even 8
Really? What does he need movement for? To get away from punches? To setup punches? His guard block punches extremely effectively and his footwork puts him in offensive and defensive position effectively and efficiently.
He doesn't just stand there and get hit. He pressures you with his guard up all the time, he blocks and then lays the punishment on you.
He hasn't been hurt, rocked, knocked out or cut in any fight and he's fought every type of fighter.
Why do you think he will knock out Clottey when he couldn't knock out Marquez? Because Clottey is more durable, has a better chin and a much better defense than Marquez.
hey man it was just an opinion...he does have the tools hes quick(not as quick as pac but quick), short sharp accurate punches and his coming foward can wear out a fighter. and clottey is extremely durable which other people have not been...like i said its just my take on it..call me stupid, call me whatever but i think clottey has alot to prove. this is the fight he has waited for and that should drive him to be great...
Nah man, all he has is deceptively quick hands, everything else (foot speed, reflexes) he's decent to slow.
His short shots aren't useful against a non-stationary target, especially a target that's gonna counter punch you everytime you open up.
His mental strength isn't strong enough either.

you know clottey is being underestimated. He has all the tools to beat pac. all those people who have fought pac have had shit for defense.( Please Please dont get me wrong pac is an excellent fighter and is at the top of his game roids or not the man has done some damage.) Everyone keeps saying clottey is one dimensional or he does the same thing every fight well what if thats all that is needed everyone else that fought pac went out their switching game plans or getting knocked out cuz they kinda didnt know what their game plan was (damn hatton) and they got their asses handed to them. Except marquez, he did his thing. I think pacquiao is going to get into a groove of moving around landing shots and hes going to see clottey shelling up alot and hes going to start getting careless middle rounds and thats where the one dimensional fighter should do his damage..Clottey has nothing to lose but everything to gain..
LOL what are these tools you are talking about?
Clottey is taylor made for Pac. He stands right in front of you, doesn't throw many punches and has limited movement.
He's got a good chin and a good jab but the angles he will see will be something he won't be able to deal with.
The only way Pac loses this fight is if he breaks his hand on Clottey's face...

I don't care about either of them. I also don't give a lick about Cotto, people need to stop thinking fighters that are better than him have to cheat to beat him. Call me whatever you want, his styleis strange, and when the going gets tough he runs or quits. I don't like that.
I agree with everything u said about cotto. I have been harping that tune for years. But, ur thoughts on clottey are far off. Clottey has some of the same characteristics as cotto. Frontrunners who rely on strength and less skill to win.
clottey is inaccurate and will have a hard time connecting on the mobile pacq. he will score when pacq looks to entertain by goin into muff mode. but other than that he will look the part of a handpicked opponent. he will fade as usual and tighten his shell late.
Clottey has no chance whatsoever. He has no movement. All he does is just stand there and get hit, which is PERFECT for PAC. This will be done by 9-10 by TKO, maybe even 8
Clottey is too one dimensional for Pacquiao. He's very good at that dimension, but not enough to beat Manny.
Clottey's going to do the same thing he always does, which is move forward with his hands up in a protective shell. And block until he's close enough to punch.
Roach has to have a great gameplan set for Pac to implement. Clottey's a very tough fighter to face if you just head in there with no actual gameplan. Clottey thinks it's gonna be a you punch, I punch like he did with Cotto and it's gonna be far from it. Pacquiao is gonna show what an elite fighter with a great gameplan does to a fighter like Clottey.
I like haveing a lively debate so let continue. I said I see the fight more like Hopkins-de la Hoya.
Here are my reasons.
CLOTTEY
1. Clottey like Hopkins is bigger, has a longer reach and had been fighting at that weight for a long time.
2. Clottey like Hopkins has excellent defense
3. Clottey like Hopkins uses little movement
4. Clottey like Hopkins has low output but high accuracy
5. Clottey like Hopkins relied on timing and counterpunching
PAC
1. Pac like de la Hoya was the more popular favourite
2. Pac like de la Hoay was the much faster guy in terms of hand speed
3. Pac like de la Hoya had much faster feet and movement
4. Pac like de la Hoya throws in flurries and volume
5. Pac like de la Hoya was relying heavily on his speedy left hand
Now tell me why the fight is more like Pac-Cotto.
I see it going in the same way as Pac/Cotto in the sense that Clottey will be beaten in a one sided affair.
Cotto and Clottey have similar styles - but IMO Cotto is technically more refined, he hits harder and is more active. Clottey has a tighter defense but nothing different or better offensively that will give Pac any trouble.
Clottey will stalk Pac down and wait for the right openings, but will be shell shocked at the amount of punches thrown at him. He failed to open up at times when he should have against Cotto and I can imagine him being pretty much a sitting duck for most of the fight against Pac. Pac will have a field day going to the body and shooting up top from awkward angles, whilst darting in and out. In order for Clottey to make this into a fight, he will have to take chances and make Pac work for his punches, but he doesn't fight that way.
It'll go the distance due to Clottey's toughness but its not going to be competitive.
