I bet Clottey can't even try to mimic 70% of Erik & JMM skills..hehehe
good points though..
Which aspect of elTerrible's or Dinamita's game do you think Clottey can't excel in? Educate me. Because in my opinions, he punches harder than both, has better right hand than both, is more accurate than both, has faster hands than both and has way better defense than both.
He can counter as good as JMM and can throw much better combinations than Morales.
Clottey's footwork(please don't confuse with footspeed) is extremely good. He doesn't waste time or energy with fancy stuff. He optimises his movement to get in attacking and defending positions quickly and effectively and is rarely off balance.
As a few people have already mentioned, his best chance is using dirty tactics, open up a cut on Pac.
He also needs to be at least twice as more active as he usually is, and try to outbox him rather than overpower him.
He should try and keep on the outside and counter with well timed and heavy shots, and fight dirty on the inside. I think he'll be looking for a knock-out punch and can do it if he connects.
1. His defense needs to be at its best. Clottey is really good at neutralizing those big combos with his high guard. He'll need to do this early.
2. Get those shots to the body in. Clottey is almost certainly going to be best early, and Pac will be ready to slug. Clottey needs to make sure he is getting those body shots in.
3. Use his size. Clinch, lean, use his size in every way he can. The only way Clottey wins this fight is wearing Pac down.
If he does these three things and Pac wears down a little late, Clottey could win by late KO or TKO. Whether he will be able to is a different story.
As of right now I dont like seein Clottey all nicey nice with Manny. I know they respect each other and Manny is a puppy dog type character but I hope inside Clottey is ready to rip his head off. Respect Manny afterwards right now train to kill his ass! Honestly Id like to see Manny win this one to set up the fight against Mayweather or Mosley but Clottey can win if he makes it a rough fight an ugly fight but he has to let his hands go or he wont come close.
First step - get a good trainer. (One that can help your technique, give a good gameplan, etc.) Clottey couldn't even bring his original trainer to America because of visa issues, now he has a "Santiago" type character in his corner.
Because of this, I don't see Clottey beating Pacquiao. If he had gotten a good trainer, there would be a great possibility of him beating Pac, but as of right now, I don't see it happening.
Number 1 he's going to back Pac up and be the aggressor.Number 2 he's going to get inside and use his strength and body punching to try and wear Pac down.Number 3 When Pac uses his in and out motion side to side punching from different angles Clottey will use his strong defense and take those punches on the gloves and counter him with straight right hands with some left hooks.Good counter punching by Clottey will stop Pac from jumping in on him like he did against Cotto
watch the clottey jdah fight, Clottey has a sneaky fast lead right and good uppercuts. Plus his jab has improved a lot in the last few fights. If he can land clean on pac early I think he has a shot of surprising a lot of people. Pac has yet to fight a guy he could not hurt and as he himself said boxing is a mental game. If Clottey can discourage him with his great D and do some damage he could take over at the midway point and then it gets interesting.
He needs to make it ugly and dirty. Use his weight and height. Rough him up. Don't let Pac jump in and out all the time. Grab him and clinch when he comes in. Clinch alot and lay his bigger, heavier body across Manny's back. He has to make Manny tired and then KO him in the late rounds, because he won't win a decision.
I give Clottey about 3 chances in 10.
Clottey has a small face , which will ne a tuff target for Manny
yeah he is a bit like a 160-68 toney in that his head seems to be a small target..........
can someone break this down for me
A few things:
- His timing needs to be 100% from rd 1. If he takes 2 or 3 or even 4 rds to get the timing down he will have needlessly given away those rds.
- He needs to mix up the attack when he opens up out of his defense......don't just try to catch Pac on the way out after he has thrown.....also try to catch him on the way in.....needs to set traps to get Pac onto str8 right hand.......
- Commit to the left hook to the body when it is there.....disguise it....and make it count......he must attack the body.......must keep lead foot on outside of Pacs lead foot and step in when throwing to the body......if the footwork is not there expect to be hit trying to land the left hook to body...
- Dirty tactics......hit on the clinch when the ref isn't looking.....hit on the hip...mess his leg up......strategically headbutt....he has it down to an art anyway....
- More active....cannot give PAc rds whilst taking a breather.......if u must take a breather don't lay on the ropes when doing so.......
- Don't just try to run over Pac in the middle of the ring.....outbox + out think......try to bulldoze him only when you have him pinned on the ropes......
Clottey can win if:
he opens a cut
he KO's Pac with a surprise shot out of nowhere
he hurts him to the body w/in the first 4 rounds
And of course, if he alters his style for this fight and presses the full 12 rounds.
