Frank wrong again. DAZN are most likely spending $150 million across 50 Matchroom/WBSS shows. PBC will have at most $110 million across Showtime/FOX/FS1. DAZN have the biggest annual budget and also have the option of sublicensing content to get viewers and increase income. Maybe fish eyes should worry about his own shows.
Never heard of that guy, who is he
Top 10 pound for pound boxer according to the Ring magazine, like Naoya Inoue who also boxes on DAZN. Do you not watch boxing?
Come on now. Even you Brits have to admit he is damn hoping for a Whyte KO, so he has another 20 mil fight to hand in front of AJ. Anyone not named Wilder that is.
Unfortunately, many of the AJ fans are living in a world where Eddie Hearns says what the public wants. That's called being a casual. Stop it.
Wilder said yes on twitter to $15 million and now he won't sign, it's all posturing. Vegas is worth $25 million to $30 million to him so the only way to make them consider Wembley is to offer 40% of the pot/$20 million which would be insane and won't happen.
They will wait it out until they get Vegas which is probably October so whether Dillian Whyte wins or not doesn't matter, Jarrell Miller, Fury or whoever has to step in if Wilder won't sign. Joshua makes $25 million against anybody. Understand pea brain?
These DAZN cards are basically house shows. No one is hardly going to subscribe to that online streaming service outside of a few cult boxing fans. Hearn is going to have his work cut out for him at the gate in order to draw a large enough venue and audience to at least break even because boxing isn't a mainstream sport in the states anymore. In the early stages, someone someplace is going to lose a lot of money on these events. It's a very risky venture. The U.S. market has never experienced anything like it before. Streaming fights exclusively online with no other media outlets like television is extremely rare. Most Americans usually watch their sports on television and not online or the venues. It's a much different business model from the U.K.
It's structured so 4 of the 16 US shows will be PPV budget and the big events have to be what drives subscribers. What he needs to turn it is a star name or 2 and he's only going to get that from a Showtime fighter if he pays miles over their value as Haymon at the moment is shutting down his 15% pay increase offers for A tier fighters and only allowing a Jessie Vargas to move.
It will be Breazeale. The WBC went out of their way to make him mandatory and PBC only have Luis Ortiz as a viable alternative and Adam Kownacki for the spring after he's beat Charles Martin. Wilder will again take $2.5 million, half what he was offered for other fights because Haymon/PBC/Showtime is a racket. Wilder won't fight Joshua until September/October next year. Fury is not a viable fight, it doesn't make enough money before one of them has fought Joshua and he is fighting at least 3 cans in a row.
Parker has been trash too, but he got the fight! Parker went 12 with Andy Ruiz, 12 with Cojanu (who Ortiz just destroyed), and 12 with Hughie Fury, and still got the fight with Joshua! It is what it is!
Parker was WBO champion in a world title unification. Ortiz was ranked by the WBA before he was removed for a failed drug test, before Joshua had even fought for the WBA title Ortiz had signed with Haymon. After he beat Klitschko the IBF mandatory Pulev took priority over the WBA as they had already asked for 2 voluntary exceptions.
It is what it is!
They don't want that fight! Just doing the same thing they did with Wilder. I bet they are going to offer a flat fee of 500,000 and then say Usyk doesn't want the fight.
I wonder what they'll offer to Usyk..20%? Usyk's team would do a piss poor job if they accept less than 50%. Yes, yes, I know Bellew is the draw, but if he wants a chance to become undisputed at 35 with a legitimate shot at HOF he'd better be prepared to pay for it. Usyk deserves a pay day, he also has a family.
Why are you pretending this is a hard fight to make? Golovkin, Spence, Klitschko, Kessler, Parker all foreign fighters that have been in Matchroom PPV main events in the last few years. Bellew doesn't give a **** about belts, they'd probably do it at heavyweight. The only reason Wilder isn't fighting for 33% which is all he's worth is because Finkel is prepared to hold out over a year for Vegas.
“My team has reached out to guys like Golovkin, Canelo , and Andrade"
You're not getting Andrade bro. You're better off just continuing calling out GGG at 160 and Canelo at 168. Andrade isn't into fighting good fighters, he's into calling out big name PPV type fighters to cash out. He won't fight a high risk fighter like you Charlo.
He's been offered Andrade, the issue is PBC don't want to pay for the fight on their network because it would have to be PPV and probably doesn't sell and as usual they're not keen for any of their fighters that have some stock to go on DAZN. Golovkin is old so I'm sure he'd love that fight now but Golovkin wants Murata in Tokyo which works for DAZN and is the same reason Andrade can't get that fight.
It was the reason I stepped away from Sky and set about launching BoxNation, where we quickly got down to business putting on fights such as Bellew-Cleverly, DeGale-Groves and Haye-Chisora. Plenty of hoopla around those fights, but no hoops.
DeGale vs Groves happened in 2011 on Sky Box Office not Boxnation. Frank is going senile. Boxnation is also dead, hence he signed an exclusive contract with BT Sport which is the same model as Matchroom and Sky just with less subscribers.
He started Boxnation but still promoted on Sky as well.
Boxnation is not dead, it still has over 120,000 subscribers and is shown on BT sport online and available to 2 million BT subscribers. Warren is putting on great international fights and is doing better than he has in years in regards to his shows, ticket sales, promotion etc etc BT has really worked for him and will only keep getting stronger with the PPV launch this year.
I don't understand the negative people. I'm happy if Sky or Boxnation/BT put on a good show.
BT Sport cards on Boxnation ended July 31st, look at their schedule they're showing the IBO featherweight title fight instead of picking up Showtime cards. They're relying on Top Rank shows like Beltran vs Pedraza to sell it so the subscribers will fall.
I hope BT Sport can provide real competition but Frank on the one hand wants to praise boxnation as something different whilst backing away from it to an exclusive contract with a big broadcaster that can put marketing money in, same as Matchroom.
Oscar is right. Joshua gets terrible tv ratings in the U.S.
Because of the time slot. Joshua vs Klitschko got 659k live on Showtime 980k replay on HBO, that's 1.6 million combined.
Joshua vs Wilder isn't Wilder vs Fury, it would sell in US prime time.
People on here calling this a failure lol. How is making over $22M in PPV revenue a failure?
It's a failure because they lost money on the event. The actual purses were far in excess of that. They could make it back with a Ruiz fight but he has to beat Anthony Joshua before that's a possibility. Wilder will likely never sell more than 500k, this fight was a consequence of DAZN. Mayweather coming back in 2020 is the only thing that can give PBC the boost they're looking for on PPV.
What is Schaefer on about here?
“With spectacular performances he has become a top 3 rated Heavyweight”.
Is Joe in the top 3 of any rankings?
He has the WBA Gold belt so flimsy argument he's top 3 with them
More Americans will buy this fight than brits.. an we don't like AJ.. so why do AJ deserves 90% of the American pie again???
How is Wilder pricing himself out when AJ is the one who asked for 50m!! Parker got 35% so stfu!!! But Wilder gets a Flat fee? Get the f uck outta here!!!
Wilder was offered 30 to 33% of a Wembley fight ($15 million) and Parker got something in the range of $6 or 7 million i.e not 35%. Wilder has priced himself out of a UK fight, the fight happens in October next year when it can be done in Vegas and Wilder will do in house PBC fights against Breazeale and Ortiz.
For the people who are saying that the talks, negotiations and potential match up between Wilder and Fury is a hoax; Just remember that $50mil is a lot of money to turn down. Warren isn't bullshitting because if the funds are indeed available then he would have to be a damned fool not to take it. Team Wilder gave Joshua the first chance at it but he turned it down.
$50 million for Joshua not Fury. You don't know anything about the business, Fury isn't a draw to that level he's been on Sky PPV once after Boxnation's £12 million bid collapsed and it sold 500k. He's signed with Warren to be over paid for easy comeback fights.
Taking Fury's twitter seriously is like taking Broner's instagram seriously.
I actually think a prepared Fury is a worse matchup for Wilder than Joshua would have been.
Stylistically a fit Fury is going to be a lot harder to fight which is one of the reasons it's so unbelievable to think they would fight as early as December. If he gets beat before fighting Joshua, he's irrelevant.
At one point in 2016, Ortiz signed a multi-fight deal with promoter Eddie Hearn in order to secure a fight with Joshua - but it never happened.
Coincidence?
Because he was poor. He boxed Malik Scott November 2016 in an awful 12 round fight where he couldn't close the ring off and finish him. 1 month later he fought Dave Allen, barely British level and went 7 rounds. In March he signed with Al Haymon before Joshua had even fought Klitschko for the WBA title.
because the 2 top heavyweights are now going to fight each other, wilder and fury I heard the soiler coward aj is fighting audley Harrison on april 13th that's about soilers dap no way him and his clown promoter will risk taking on luis Ortiz or even Daniel dubois for that matter
Dubois would lose to Nathan Gorman. You must have been watching boxing for all of 5 minutes if you think Fury vs Wilder gets made this year. Zero chance, big fights never get made fast. It's a lazy transparent attempt to get more money for Joshua.
See I was under the impression that Jacobs has one fight left on his HBO contract which will be derevyanchenko and then he can make the move over to DAZN.
Honestly.. certainly if Canelo won and the opportunity came for a unification with Andrade, Hearn would definitely let that fight go to HBO unless DAZN bid stupid money and signed up for a dual broadcast thing.
Hearn did say at the DAZN launch that if the big big guys come along with PPV opportunities that outweigh what DAZN would bid or provide.. then he would let then go to another broadcaster for that opportunity.
It's true Jacobs has 1 more fight left on the deal but Eddie isn't looking to sever ties with HBO. He has a good relationship with Peter Nelson the executive, he wanted more dates with them but budget constraints meant it wasn't moving fast enough.
I'd prefer them to drop the US dreams and leave everything to TR and PBC and throw more money into other countries.
That's not going to happen any time soon. The most money is in US boxing and DAZN put more money into boxing than Fox, Showtime or ESPN do individually. He will focus on working with fighters that can make a profit rather than having a huge stable. Canelo, Teofimo Lopez, Haney. Matchroom's collaborative approach and signing young talent will win out
Ortiz is the #2 best heavyweight behind Wilder. period.
None of those UK p-ssies dare mention his name.
Whyte said Ortiz was 1000 years old. so Wilder said beat him and you get a title shot.. Whyte said no
Ortiz was mandatory for GayJ and Joshua still never uttered his name. the WBA suspends Ortiz but not PEDvetkin?? we all know why. Pedvetkin is 40 yrs old and looked like a hot trash in his last fight.
Ortiz wipes his ass with EVERY U.K. heavyweight there is.
the land of cowards and p-ssies.
Haha you are fuming, you tub of lard. American heavyweight boxing has been dead since 2002. Fury wipes the floor with both Ortiz and Wilder. Joshua would knock Ortiz out. Usyk would beat him to a decision.
DAZN could surely do much more with 100 million, eg tie up with the WBSS and fund a whole bunch of new tournaments at various weights.
They already have WBSS and it's not possible to do more than 2 quality tournaments a year because of other American promoters, Bob Arum and Al Haymon won't cooperate if it's losing a champion for 3 fights so it's dependent on Matchroom and smaller promotional outfits like World of Boxing, Salita Promotions, DiBella Enterainment, Cyclone, Sauerland, Main Events
Looking forward to watching this, does anyone know if it's planned for Sky, BT Sport, or ITV (please no) PPV in the UK?
They had talked to Sky about picking up the remaining shows, nothing agreed yet
Fight the so called "old man" Luis Ortiz instead. Manuel Charr is garbage.
Charr has the WBA regular title and Ortiz will probably end up fighting Wilder as the chance of Wilder vs Fury actually happening in December is tiny and he's looking for a tick over fight.
Complete fantasy, there are no negotiations. Fury isn't up to speed for a hard fight, Warren doesn't have the money and it doesn't sell enough in the UK on BT without a proper build so Wilder wouldn't take smaller money than the Joshua fight. You can't sell that fight on PPV in the US without a build either.
The only real offer is $8 million for Whyte.
Cut the crap, Hearn. Andrade is obviously not a no.1 middleweight, he's about no.5 or 6. And lol at Jesse Vargas being a top 3 welter. He barely makes the top 10.
He's obviously referring to the rankings. Vargas IS ranked #3 with the WBC and WBO. Andrade is WBO mandatory and next in line.
